What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE. With my training, I’m interested in nutrition to stay in shape. I read a Arnold Schwarzenegger’s book « Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding » and I learned some good stuff.

Training stimulate muscle growth. To have an effective training, it’s necessary that your body has the sufficient amount of energy and enough raw materials. The role of nutrition is to carry this energy and these raw materials.

The function of nutrition is to learn how to stay lean, mean and muscular. With nutrition we learn how much food to eat in order to have the best results possible. This allows you to study the basic nutrients and calculate the amount you need. This also includes studying protein, vitamin, mineral and other supplements.

Learning nutrition allows you to be more muscular. It improves your health and improves your immune system to be able to do all your training sessions without being sick (cold for example). Good nutrition has other advantages, such as improving our recovery after training with very heavyweights, having a beautiful healthy skin, having excellent internal organs and the list is long.

For a bodybuilder, the basic of nutrition are as precious as the basic principles of training. Exercices requires energy and the amount of nutrients you eat is essential to having the body you want.

During the Arnold Classic, athletes are interviewed after their appearance on stage. At the question « What do you feel was the most important factor that helped you get in such tremendous shape for this contest ? », athletes don’t respond that it’s thanks to bench press, squat or muscle isolation. In the majortiy of cases, they explain that they improve their nutrition or their supplement to gain muscle, lose fat and be able to train with maximum energy until the competition’s day.

It’s important to say that advance in nutrition and supplements are the main reason why we’re seeing athletes with this excellent level today. Attention, progress has improved the training with the years but training has not been revolutionized as nutrition. Training and nutrition are complementary because it’s impossible to create a champion only with good nutrition. It’s essential that athletes have an intensive training, a good mental attitude and a good knowledge of nutrition.

In the past, bodybuilders approached nutrition on instinct, seat-of-the-pants basis. In a first phase, they were building muscle and getting big, but not really ripped. In a second phase, they were getting thinner (like Harnold Poole or Vince Gironda) but they were getting small. They hadn’t found the trick yet to stay big and getting ripped at the same time.

Nutrition’s fundamental are quite simple. In fact, I can’t say that it’s simple because each body is unique. It’s important to study these basic principles to apply them to your training, to understand the needs of your body and to see how your body reacts to different diets to gain or lose weight. There is always this instinctive aspect but with this nutritive knowledge, it’s easier to adjust the quantity to have the body that you want.

This Problem Is Blocking Your Success

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

In the last Leonardo da Vinci’s biography written by Walter Isaacson (who is also the author of the Steve Jobs biography, 2011), we can see that he was an extremely curious man. This curiosity allowed him to explore several different areas, boost his creativity and make a huge contribution to art. But the downside is that he kept changing projects.

Because of this, Leonardo da Vinci left a mind-blowing number of unfinished works of art. There are several scientific fields where he could have advanced the humanity of 2 centuries, if he worked more and published his results.

Attitude

This show us that we all have different attitudes to things that interest us, to our projects. We can explore something because we want to know how it works or master it to improve our lifestyle.

Attitude is very important in life. For example when you do something you like, you don’t have the same attitude as for something you like moderately or not at all. The last project you did, did you give the best of yourself to the end or not ? The question is whether you’re aware of the mission you want to accomplish through the project.

Mission

In a project, the mission, the goal is essential. There are many people around me who say they want to be successful. They say things like : «  Yes, I want to be successful, if I find success around the corner, I would not say no. It would be cool ». But that doesn’t happen like that. To succeed in a mission, it’s necessary to give the best of oneself. And it can take many years, so don’t be naive. With internet, there is a myth that makes everyone believe that in 2-3 years we can be a millionaire, that’s wrong.

When I created my blog, I had friends who also had their blog or YouTube channel, but they all stopped. We didn’t have the same mission and the same attitude when we started. You can see in the top left of my blog this sentence : « I’m building my legacy ». This is my mission.

It’s really good to be curious, but once you’ve found something that interests you, focus on it. Work on this passion in « Guerrilla » mode to develop it, because it will become your main source of income. When I say « Guerrilla », it means that you give the best of yourself. You want to know what skill you have to learn, you want to learn from the best players in the field, you do tests to innovate, etc.

With a definite mission, a « Guerrilla » attitude and patience, you’ll have the success you deserve in your project.

How To Reduce Stress (Part 2)

3rd step – organize yourself and communicate

Organize

Managing your schedule helps limit stress and to do that, here’s what you can do :

  • Prevent an additional 10 to 20 minutes on your travel times.

  • Make a list of priority tasks to do and not to do.

  • Identify bad habits, tasks to eliminate and tasks to delegate.

  • Automatize a maximum of tasks.

  • Focus on taks that immediately bring visible results

  • Avoid to scatter you.

  • Stop these time consuming habits like reading your emails as soon as they arrive of watching your smartphone as soon as there is a notification. Tamagochi  is a toy, not a lifestyle.

  • Do things in their time. Each task, even minimum, must be completed before moving on the next one. This method allows you to improve your concentration and the satisfaction of having completed a task is very motivating.

  • Pause during the day and cultivate your patience. In a situation where you have to wait, take the time to relax instead of sighing and complaining. For example in a queue for a counter, use that : Wait = relax and breathe deeply. Concentrate on yourself in a positive way and on the present moment.

Communicate

  • Stress is often born from the fact that we don’t know what our interlocutors expect from us. We can’t read people’s minds, so don’t hesitate to ask clearly what people expect of you. Dare to ask questions and create a direct communication. Banish your ego and think that you aren’t absolutely right. You can also avoid sensitive topics.

  • Say « no ». If you can’t render a service someone asks you because you have no time or no resources or you don’t want to take additional responsibilities, then explain that to your interlocutor. Your interlocutors will understand the situation and you will find an arrangement. It’s better to say « no » from the start than to force yourself to keep your commitments. With this attitude, you will avoid being overwhelmed.

  • Avoid the trigger elements of stress. Limit your contact with people who stress you. Be aware of your environment and control that. For example, use an alternative road to avoid traffic jams. Turn off TV to avoid listening to information that makes you anxious. If you did the analysis of 20% of sources that bring you 80% your stress, you know the people that you must see the minimum or eliminate them from your contacts.

  • Adjust yourself by being willing to compromise. Be assertive by adapting your requirements and avoiding perfectionism.

  • Reframe conflicts by analyzing the problem in a positive way. Look at good things and find benefits of the situation. Focus on positive elements.

  • Accept the trigger of stress and admit that you can’t control everything.

  • Looking for opportunities to improve yourself. Concentrate on what this stressful situation can teach you. Follow the principle of this quote : « What doesn’t kill you , make you stronger » and ask yourself these questions : « How can I get better with this experience ? What did I learn ? ».

  • Forgive. Accept that others make mistakes (because you also make mistakes) and try to evacuate any feeling of anger. When you free yourself from all this negative energy, it’s easy to resume your projects.

In summary « The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another » as William James said.

How To Reduce Stress (Part 1)

I am doing a synthesis of the Dale Carnegie’s book “How to stop worrying and start living”  and other sources on internet for a blueprint to manages stress in 4 steps.

Stress is about change, it means adapting to the environment of a changing structure. Stress is a feeling triggered by the interpretation of an event. It’s a reaction related to the constraints and the pressure undergone in its environment. Stress can be interpreted as something positive, whether it’s considered a challenge or as something negative, if it’s considered a harmful event.

The truth is that stress is a mistake of reasoning in relation to the attitude or behavior we adopt. This is an answer that isn’t adequate. It’s an alert for mental dysfunction as the body gives us an alert for physical pain. Fortunately, people can learn to control stress in 4 steps : Take a step back and analyze what triggered the stress ; anticipate and visualize ; organize yourself and communicate and turn away or adapt and accept.

1st step – Take a step back and analyze

It’s necessary to step back and analyze what triggered the stress. Because before trying to solve that, it’s important to know what caused it. By analyzing what caused the stress, we can avoid certain consequences.

To do that, here’s what you can do :

  • Make a list of sources of annoyance that you have in your family, friends, school, work, transportation, etc. Once you have found them, classify them from the most impacting to the least impacting. You can also do a 20/80 analysis, that means identify the 20% of the sources that bring you 80% of your stress.

  • Ask yourself these questions : « What is the problem ? What is the cause of this stress in these sources ? What are the most serious consequences that I suffer of my experience ? »

  • Understand the emotion that created in these moments. Then check if it’s a real fear or rather a theoretical concern that doesn’t have much to happen in your life.

If a situation is truly unavoidable, you need to prepare yourself to accept it. We must give up the impossible because it’s extremely stressful to have no way to change a situation. To avoid this, you need to anticipate situations that may lead you into an impasse. Once these situations identified, you must try to really avoid them or change the course of things from the start.

It’s impossible to keep control of all things in your life. It’s useless to set inaccessible goals.

2nd step – anticipate and visualize

The best way to handle stress is to anticipate. Based on the list you made in the first step (source of stress), imagine solutions and possible answers. Ask yourself these questions : « Why did you agree to be in this situation ? ». If what you do make sense, it limits the stress.

Decide how you want to live a situation. An event that happens to you can have not effect on you until you choose words to qualify it. If you say that an event is happy, boring, sad or extraordinary, it can become so. By qualifying the event, you modify the perception that you have of this event.

The way you see the event determines your body’s reaction. So take a moment to think before judging and classyfying a situation as negative.

Take Olivier Roland’s example. When Olivier Roland began to meditate, his neighbor’s dog was barking. At first it disturbed Olivier to focus on his breathing, it was stressful and annoying. After a while, Olivier realized that it wasn’t the barking dog that was stressful, it was Olivier’s interpretation of the situation. From the moment that Olivier decided that the barking dog was something neutral or positive, he began to appreciate when the dog barks. It’s a sign of life.

Imagination can be used to help fight stress. Get in shape before a stressful event. You can create a positive state of mind when an event is negative. Think of something positive like music, a holiday, projects in progress. Visualize a happy moment, a happy memory.

Improve Discipline

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned good stuff.

Here is how I worked, a few year ago. I had a project that I really wanted to do and I thought to myself : « When I come back home tonight after eating, I work on it ». And after eating, I preferred to play video games or watch a TV show until sleep. I think that situation has already happened to you.

Now I realize that if I had done these projects, I would have had more fulfilling lifestyle, I would have leaned to manage my money earlier and I would have interesting contacts earlier. Maybe I wouldn’t have had it all earlier but in any case a part, that’s for sure.

Discipline and productivity are important skills to create and evolve a project. I did project but these weren’t my most ambitions projects. These weren’t projects with big risks, so I dissatisfied inside of me. The problem is that all this insatisfaction transformed into frustration.

There are a lot of things I wanted to do in theory and that I never did.

As you know on my blog, I mainly talk about fitness/bodybuilding and I notice that many people enroll in a gym with a 3 months subscription and go to the gym only 2 times. This is a classic case.

Know that there is a solution because before I had very little discipline and productivity and now it’s improving more and more.

Track you progress

To have more discipline and productivity, you need to make sure that this is a long-term goal. This requires several years to have concrete results like for sport. We would like to have results right away but the best things take time because it’s an exploration in yourself.

This is not going to be Disneyland every day because there are times when you’re going to tell yourself you’re not going get there. That’s why you need to keep track of your results. It’s interesting to note why you’re less motivated to continue your project to better understand yourself. You’ll read books on personal development, follow training, meet people who have the same goal as you. With this methods you’ll build your own toolbox to improve your discipline and your productivity.

What is cool when we keep track of our results is that we can see our evolution from month to month, year by year. It’s funny to see your results 2 years ago to really realize your progress.

To find a way to improve my discipline and productivity, I read on internet that enrolling in a group of people who shared the same goals as me could be extremely motivating. So I looked for websites and Facebook’s groups. What is interesting in groups is that every week a person offers a challenge. Then everybody share their results and everyone shares their impressions.

It’s also possible that you find a person in your entourage who has the same goal as you. I find it really cool to put people around you into groups because the more people there are the greater the motivation.

You see, the fact of telling everyone that you are challenging, force you to be disciplined and productive to complete the project. And there were always funny punishments for people who didn’t show their project. And little by little, you improve and often you have proposals to make competitions.

I used to do this for sport at first but this concept is used in all fields such writing, photography, dancing (I like dance salsa), cooking, etc. And in all these field there are competitions several times in the year. Here is an example that astonished me, watch the paper airplane world championship .

No need to be a shaolin monk

By tracking your results, you’ll find ways to boost your will without it being painful. You know, you don’t have to work to have the discipline’s level of a Shaolin monk, you just need to have a discipline’s level that allows you to make your projects a reality.

Several scientific studies have made an important discovery in order to better understand human beings. This is because the will is an element that trains as a muscle to develop. Which means that to develop your discipline, you have to train it like a muscle and it doesn’t happen overnight.

Have Mentors ?

Sometimes the simplest idea can open your mind. Once, at the end of my training, while I was eating, I was talking with a friend about problems I had. And he said a very simple thing: « When you’re in a deep water, you sink or you return to the beach ». In my head, it was « Wow », it motivated me to continue to fight to achieve my goal. And once I had achieved my goal, I’ve realized that I had become mentally stronger.

I don’t want to have more adversity in life, it’s not what I mean, but when it happens, I act. I refuse to lose, that’s my attitude, my mindset. I know that adversity is a test that will make me stronger in all domains in my life. This will give me more experience of life. My experiences make me richer inside. How I can help a person if I didn’t live his situation.

The reason I say that good things coming to me, it’s because I don’t allow negative things have results with me. I always try to use experiences to my advantage to have more wisdom, to become stronger. When I say that life is what you make it, it’s a reality for me and I often say it. Sometimes people want to take videos on their smartphones with me and ask me advice. I can’t make a 10 minutes speech, that’s why I say this sentence.

There is still another thing, train your mind. You train your body, you fuel better your body to be more aesthetic, more symmetrical but you must do the same with your mind as King Solomon. Train your mind as hard as you train your body. If you don’t train it, it will become weak.

Read the King Solomon’s story, he asked to God to have wisdom, not to be rich. With wisdom, he could get all he needed and more. I’m not saying you have to be like King Solomon but he can inspire you to change your lifestyle. Life is knowledge. Anyone can memorize information, it’s knowledge. It’s not impressive to me. Understanding that knowledge and use it in life and be able to explain it in a simple way to make clear to another person, that’s what impresses me.

You really have wisdom and power when you control your mind and body to control your own life.

Sharing knowledges you have received, create opportunities that you never imagined.

Avoir Des Mentors ?

Des fois, l’idée la plus simple peut ouvrir ton esprit. Une fois, à la fin de mon entraînement, pendant que je mangeais, je parlais avec un ami des problèmes que j’avais. Et il m’a répondu un truc très simple : «  Quand tu es dans une mer agitée, tu coules ou tu retournes à la plage ». Dans ma tête, ça a fait « Wow », ça m’a motivé pour continuer me battre pour réaliser mon objectif. Et une fois que j’avais réalisé mon objectif, je me suis rendu compte que j’étais devenu plus fort mentalement.

Je ne veux pas avoir plus d’adversité dans la vie, ce n’est pas ce que je veux dire, mais quand ça arrive, j’agis. Je refuse de perdre, c’est mon attitude, mon état d’esprit. Je sais que l’adversité est un test qui me rendra plus fort dans tous les domaines de ma vie. Cela me donnera plus d’expériences de la vie. Mes expériences me rendent plus riche à l’intérieur. Comment je peux aider une personnes si je n’ai pas vécu sa situation.

La raison pour laquelle je dis qu’il m’arrive que des bonnes choses, c’est parce que je ne permet pas aux choses négatives avoir des résultats avec moi. J’essaie toujours d’utiliser les expériences à mon avantage pour avoir plus de sagesse, pour devenir plus fort. Quand je dis que la vie c’est ce que tu en fais, c’est une réalité pour moi et je le dis souvent. Des fois des gens veulent prendre des vidéos avec moi sur leurs smartphones et me demandent un conseil. Je ne peux pas faire un speech de 10 minutes, c’est pour ça que je dis cette phrase.

Il y a encore une autre chose, entraîne ton esprit. Tu muscles ton corps, tu nourris mieux ton corps pour être plus esthétique, plus symétrique mais tu dois faire la même chose avec ton esprit comme le Roi Salomon. Entraînes ton esprit aussi dur que tu entraînes ton corps. Si tu ne l’entraîne pas, il va devenir faible.

Lis l’histoire du Roi Salomon, il a demandé à Dieu d’avoir de la sagesse, pas d’être riche. Avec la sagesse, il a pu obtenir tous ce qu’il avait besoin et encore plus. Je ne te dis pas que tu dois être comme le Roi Salomon mais cela peut t’inspirer pour changer ton style de vie. La vie est connaissance. Tout le monde peut mémoriser une information, c’est de la connaissance. Ce n’est pas impressionnant pour moi. Comprendre cette connaissance et l’utiliser dans la vie et être capable de l’expliquer d’une façon simple pour la faire comprendre à une autre personne, c’est ça qui m’impressionne.

On a vraiment de la sagesse et tu pouvoir quand on maîtrise notre esprit et notre corps pour contrôler notre propre vie.

Partage la connaissance que tu as reçu, créer des opportunités que tu n’as jamais imaginé.
