What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE ! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned some good stuff.

To increase my charisma, I discovered a completely counterintuitive trick. This trick is a state of mind. This is a trick that Seth Godin shares in his book « Tribes » . In this book Seth Godin explains the importance of internet. Internet isn’t just about doing business with customers/prospects, but it’s a real tool for building a tribe or community.

The principles for building a tribe or community with internet are to share quality content and to clearly explain your values to bring together people who share the same values as you. Seth Godin says something very interesting about charisma, he says that most people think that yow have to have charisma to get the idea when it’s the opposite. The simple fact of having the idea gives charisma. It’s deep right ?

I’m sure you’ve seen this situation :

  • There is a person who loses consciousness on the sidewalk Quickly a person must take responsibility for the idea of caring for the person who has lost consciousness

  • There is a car accident. Quickly a person must take responsibility for the idea of dealing with traffic to secure the area.

In situation where there is no designated leader, a person must take the initiative, without permission, to take responsibility for the idea of managing the situation.

As you can see, it does give charisma to this person and the others will naturally accept him/her as a leader and listen his/her orders, until the situation returns to normal.

The question, I’m asking you is : « In the project that is important to you, could you take responsibility for the idea of taking care of your tribe or community that shares the same values as you and to do evolve the project ? ». Tell me your answer in the comments section.

A Rare Habit To Have To Be Successful

The most successful entrepreneurs are those who are the most curious. It has an extremely simple habit that the majority of the population doesn’t have. This habit is to ask questions but be careful, they’re use 2 way to ask questions :

  • By curiosity to try to understand the history, the motivation and the methods of a person or a company.

  • To question things that everyone agrees with. Are these things that everyone takes for granted true or not ?

It may be trivial, but how many people have met athletes, entrepreneurs or others great people who have just said : « Wow, that’s amazing what you did ». Then they could ask : « What motivated you to do that ? » or « Do you have a piece of advice that helped you on your journey ? » or « Do you make a stupid mistake that will stop you ? ».

When you ask questions about things that everyone takes for granted, you can sometimes find gold mines. What I means is that there are things that many people think is true when it’s wrong because they didn’t verify the information. So, this may be a gold mine that can make you rich at all levels.

It happens because we, human beings, have an imperfect representations of how reality works. That is, we’re like prehistoric explorers with rudimentary maps. The closer your mental map is to how the universe really works, the more likely you’re to do relevant actions, so to be more successful in your life in all areas of spiritual wealth (being happy, living long, create value, etc) and material wealth.

For example, Erico Rocha ( ooh, read this article ) is a Brazilian entrepreneur who has an incredible success in the information field in Brazil and he’s someone very curious. When you tell him one thing, he’ll understand that you have implicitly accepted that as a truth and he’ll question you on it.

You can do that too, and that opens doors that you never imagined.

Here is a concrete example. Many people think that handwork things are better than industrial things. This is a truth that most people have accepted without verified the information and this will influence their thoughts, decisions and words. Now let’s ask ourselves : « Is something handwork automatically better than an industrial thing ? ».

It’s true that there are some handwork things that are better than industrial things, but is a handwork book better than an industrial book ? We can ask the same question for a car, is a handwork car better than a industrial car ?

Analyze around you people who think that handwork things are automatically better than industrial things. Be careful, these people aren’t going tell you that explicitly. They’re just going to say things like : « Did you see ? I bought this wooden spoon, it’s pretty, huh ?!? It’s a handwork thing ». In this case, you can ask the question : « For you, are handwork things better than industrial things ? » With that you can analyze the way of thinking of this person on this subject.

With this habit, you’ll change your state of mind. This habit of asking such questions allows you to find those unconscious acceptances that influence our thoughts, actions and words. When you use that, it gives you a lot of advantage in life to be successful compared to people who don’t understand that.

Find The Gym For Your Goals (Part2)

You noticed there are several categories of gyms. That’s why you have to take your time to think about a gym that fits your needs.

Fitness center franchise

In the best known franchises, you will have cheap membership. It’s cheap but you have few amenities, some type of trainings are forbidden, free weight section is limited and often the staff has no experience.

Health clubs/Sport clubs/YMCA

Clubs look like franchises but they have a better service. There is more amenities, towel service, child care, pool, tennis court. Membership can reach $100, some type of training can be prohibited and free weight’s section limited.

Note : Franchises and clubs can be convenient if you travel a lot because with their membership, you can train in different cities.

Locally owned gyms

These gyms have a better equipement, a free weight’s section bigger and a better quality staff than franchises and health clubs. Membership is around $25-50 and it’s real that amenites are less good than health clubs.

Weightlifting club/barbell club/crossfit

It’s a room with bumper plates, dumbbells, barbells and pullup bar. With the membership, you have a coach and classes, that’s why it’s expensive. These gyms are open at certain hours during the day. These gyms have their own workout program, you can’t do your own workout program.

College/university gyms

it’s cheap and you need to paid upfront in full.

You can have a discount « alumini » memberships if you go to the college or university that you attended. If you don’t live near of you old college/university, some gyms offer memberships to family members of alumini or staff, local « senior » memberships or event just local resident memberships. What is great with this type of gym is you can have acces to their full facilty (pool, racquet courts, classes, etc).

Test drive the gym

The next step is to look for gyms in your city now that you know differtent types of gyms.

Do a test in gyms to see if the equipement meets your needs. Some gyms offer pass for 1-2 weeks. During the test phase, go train the same days that you plan to train after signing the contract.

Imagine that you find the perfect gym, you sign the contract and eveydays you train, it’s war. The gym is full of people and you can’t use equipement. This is a situation to avoid.

Here is what is important to see during the test phase :

  • Is there enough equipment for everyone or you have to fight to have a bench ?

  • Does the equipment work well ?

  • What is the gym’s atmosphere ?

  • Is it clean ?

  • If you go befoire school/work, is there enough shower available or you have to wait ?

You can read gym’s reviews on internet by searching with Google or DuckDuckGo. Attention, on internet people prefer to complain than to do compliments so be careful. For me the best thing to do is talk to gym members to know what is positive and negative.

Contracts

A lot of people don’t want to have a membership gym because one of their friend had a bad experience to stop a gym’s membership. This for this reason it’s important to take your time to read the contract and understand clauses.

Here things to look at in a contract :

  • A membership termination clause because for exemple, you move or you lose you job. This is rare but sometimes you can stop a membership if you live near the gym. Usually there is a fee named «  early termination fee » (that’s what I have).

  • The possibility when you’re on vacation ou you have to work for several weeks in another city to freeze your membership.

  • If the gym goes bankrupt, what happens to members ?

  • Membership renewal is automatic ?

You know salespersons work with commission so if a sales person make you a promise, make sure that this promise is in writing. Taking the contract at home is the thing I advise you to read it quietly and understand clauses.

If you feel that the salesperson put pression on you or that you don’t feel comfortable for another reason, leave the gym.

Note : There are states that has specific laws. For exemple, you can cancel the contract only 2 days after signed it. It would be a shame if you signed this type of contract without being aware of this clause. This is why it’s important to take the contract at home to read it quietly.

Here different membership’s fees :

  • Activation fee

    You pay these fees when you’re a new member. You pay these fees once.

  • Monthly cost

    it’s a fee you pay every month

  • Maintenance fee

You pay these fees per year. Attention, some gyms have a special clause that says : « We don’t have this kind of fee now but later, it’s possible to add these fees without telling you ». Be sure to know this clause if it is in your contract.

When I enrolled in my gym, there was an offer for people who applied for registration on internet. Look at gym’s website to know offers but also ask always to salesperson if there are discounts.

In gyms, there is often a membership’s range of price. You need to negotiate, don’t hesitate. Don’t forget that the more you take the more expensive membership, the more the salesperson will have a larger commission. If the salesperson tell you : « No », it doesn’t matter, you tried to get the best price.

By negotiating, somethimes you can register in a gym for the first time without paying the activation fees. To do it, you need to talk to the person who has permission to do this. Sometimes they can call you 1-2 days after to offer you an exceptional offer.

You can also have a nice offer by paying an annual membership up front. Look at the price difference.

Also you can have offers with you health insurance. It’s always with a limited number of gym but look if you have this option.

Stay focus

The difference between a workout at home and a workout in a gym is that in a workout in a gym, you can really make your potential evolve to the maximum.

For exemple, if you do a barbell’s workout, you will have always heavy weight plates to go to the next level. It’s the same thing for dumbbells. You need heavier, it’s here. No need to worry about buying new.

Of course, there are negative pointst to enroll a gym. You have to move there (bike, bus, car, etc), you to wait if you go during busy hours, the cost and do your workout around unkown people.

I repeat, you can train at home to be healthy or gain strength with a bodyweight workout program. You can buy a set of dumbbell, barbell, kettelbell or a sandbag. You can do sprints or walk (like my father) outside with any weather and it’s free.

For me the gym, it’s an important moment of my day. It’s the moment where I’m focus on myself and the society’s pressure no longer exists.

Know What We Want In Life

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and there is good stuff.

A lot of young and less young (30-50 years old) still don’t know what they want in life. It’s not something essential to succeed in life and be happy. But read this Seneca’s quote: « If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable ». Life can be more interesting when we know what we want to accomplish. When you take your car, before to go in your car, you know your destination. Do you already used your car without knowing the destination ?

I think it’s important that people know what they want accompish in life, what they want leave as inheritance or legacy. To do this, we need to find our passion, a passion that drive you to be better than yesterday.

I know people used different exercices to find their passion but they found nothing, it’s a failure and they’re frustrated. In my opinion, these people have just an exploration problem.

Exporation

Exlpore several activities is a great way to find a passion. It’s simple, how do you know you like an activity, if you have never tried this. May be you are an archery olympic champion but how do you know if you have never tried archery ?

I encourage you to do new activites, meet people, discuss with them and pratices to decrease the number of activites you don’t know. The truth is that your passion will not come to seek you.

Exlpore new activies, it’s good but don’t become addicted to exporation’s phase.

In a passion, there is 3 steps :

  • Exploration phase

    It’a like when we fall in love, everything is awesome, everything is beautiful.

  • Dry period phase

    For most people, it’s in this phase that they abandon. The enthusiasm of the beginning diminishes enormously. We spend a lot of energy for little result compared to a person who has done the same thing for 3-5 years.

    And it’s also in this phase where we must be careful to not be addicted to the exploration phase. For people who don’t like the dry period phase, they will find several excuses to change activity instead of holding on until to have good results.

  • Consecration phase

    It’s at this moment that we harvest the seeds that we sowed and generally success always exceeds us.

Project

project

Once we found a passion, have a project around this passion allow us to become a better version or ourselves. This project will allow us to get out of our comfort zone, to give the better or ourselves because we really want to succeed. The ideal is to combine a passion, skill and economic potential if you want to become an entrepreneur.

To test your project, I advise you to use « Lean startup » by experimenting in the field using little time, energy and money.

Create the Headquarter

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

We need to set up our own environment to buid our success.

Do it like superhero, look :

  • Bruce Wayne has his Batcave to create tools to fight crime.

  • Superman has his Fortress of Solitude

  • Tony Stark has his lab and J.A.R.V.I.S for his Iron Man suit.

It’s our turn to create our own headquarter to have success.

Our brain

We’re creature of habits. More we do an activites regularly, more our brain need to use less his energy to do this activity.

Remember when you learned to drive a car, you was very very focus because you had to be attentive to :

  • Check mirrors

  • Hand at 10 and 2

  • Turn on blinker

  • Step on the right pedal

  • Keep head on a swiel and watch out for other cars

When you learn to drive you’re always tired after a session with a car and it’s normal because you create new habits. Now, you know drive, it’s a habit. You don’t think about what you must do when you driving, it’s almost instinctive.

It’s the same things with others activities like brush teeths, make a phone call or ride a bike.

When you do an activities a lot of time, your brain create a new and faster pathway that need less brain energy.

We need to build better habits by decreasing the amount of brain energy needed to do them.

Your decisions, your environement

There is 2 places where you spend the most of time :

  • Your home

  • Your School/work/spaceship

Objects from these environments influence your behaviour. Your brain analyze everytime what is around you and what you do when you see these objects :

  • If you see a vendor machin, your brain will say : « I can buy something to eat ».

  • If you see candy on your desk, you brain will say : « I can eat a lot of sugar »

  • When you see a couch and a big TV, your brain will say : « I can have a lot hours of entertainment here »

Now, look new habits we want to build :

  • If you want run after school/work – You need to avoid to sit on your comfy couch and avoid your rerigerator. The solution is to go straight to your bedroom to put your sport’s clothes and sport’s shoes and you go straight outside. You avoid all the house’s distractions.

  • If you want cook healthy meals – You need to eat befort to go shopping at the supermarket. You need to avoid all fast-foods on the road and go straight to the supermarket. In the supermarket, you buy only what has on the list and you go back straight to home to cook a healthy meal.

  • If you want to stop to check your messages on your email or social media 25 times per day – You need to try and force your brain to say : « I’m focus on the task I’m doing ». This case is the same thing that to type a blog’s article in middle of Disney’s World Park.

Audit your headquarter

There is several exemple of how you can do an audit to your own headquarter to take better decisions.

  • Watch too much TV ?  Cancel your annual subscription tv or cable (you will save a lot of money). Buy an Android TV (Google), Apple TV or Netflix and paid only for the shows you want watch. It’s difficult to watch shitty shows and you can’t change to watch your favorite shows.

  • Lose your time on your computer ?  Block yourself of website you check every 5 minutes (Facebook, etc). I will write an article to increase your productivity with your computer.

  • You want run every morning ? Sleep with your sport’s clothes and your sport’s shoes next to your bed. Put your clock alarm across your bedroom.

  • You want train after school/work ? Prepare you sport bag before you sleep and put your sport bag in front of your front door to don’t forget it. By this way after school/work you will go straight to gym.

  • You play to much to video games ? Unplugged your system. By this way each time you want to play, you have to plug everything and when it’s finished, you unplug everything. Video games are cool but we must not forget the real game of life.

  • Tired to eat junk food ? Throw out all junk foods of your house. Because you know, it’s hard to eat junk foods at 9PM when you have only healty foods.

Note : Don’t make a lot of change at once. Stay focus to build one new habit to delete a bad habit. It’s easier to replace a bad habit by a good habit.
