Know What We Want In Life

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and there is good stuff.

A lot of young and less young (30-50 years old) still don’t know what they want in life. It’s not something essential to succeed in life and be happy. But read this Seneca’s quote: « If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable ». Life can be more interesting when we know what we want to accomplish. When you take your car, before to go in your car, you know your destination. Do you already used your car without knowing the destination ?

I think it’s important that people know what they want accompish in life, what they want leave as inheritance or legacy. To do this, we need to find our passion, a passion that drive you to be better than yesterday.

I know people used different exercices to find their passion but they found nothing, it’s a failure and they’re frustrated. In my opinion, these people have just an exploration problem.

Exlpore several activities is a great way to find a passion. It’s simple, how do you know you like an activity, if you have never tried this. May be you are an archery olympic champion but how do you know if you have never tried archery ?

I encourage you to do new activites, meet people, discuss with them and pratices to decrease the number of activites you don’t know. The truth is that your passion will not come to seek you.

Exlpore new activies, it’s good but don’t become addicted to exporation’s phase.

In a passion, there is 3 steps :

  • Exploration phase

    It’a like when we fall in love, everything is awesome, everything is beautiful.

  • Dry period phase

    For most people, it’s in this phase that they abandon. The enthusiasm of the beginning diminishes enormously. We spend a lot of energy for little result compared to a person who has done the same thing for 3-5 years.

    And it’s also in this phase where we must be careful to not be addicted to the exploration phase. For people who don’t like the dry period phase, they will find several excuses to change activity instead of holding on until to have good results.

  • Consecration phase

    It’s at this moment that we harvest the seeds that we sowed and generally success always exceeds us.

Project

Once we found a passion, have a project around this passion allow us to become a better version or ourselves. This project will allow us to get out of our comfort zone, to give the better or ourselves because we really want to succeed. The ideal is to combine a passion, skill and economic potential if you want to become an entrepreneur.

To test your project, I advise you to use « Lean startup » by experimenting in the field using little time, energy and money.

We will see a simple way and efficient to boost your company. Better than contact cold client by phone or emails.

Think about this. Contact companies that already have your customers and don’t compete with you. You offer them a partnership with you to increase sales.

A personal trainer who just start his business had difficult to find clients. The tips is to find companies that have the same type of client but they’re not competitors to make partnerships.

This personal trainer spend 2 hours to identify his client types.

The client type majority of the personal trainer was a woman, 30-40 years old with an university degree who doesn’t have time to make play sports, who doesn’t have the discipline to do it and who need someone who comes home for motivation and training.

Now, which companies have the same client type ? After having searched, the personnal trainer found it, it’s estheticians, beauty institutes, etc.

So the personal trainer went to see estheticians and beauty institutes and say them : « Your clients come here to be more beautiful and have a better look. Me, I can help them to have a better better physique, better health and be more happy ».

One week later, he had more clients that he could handle. This was a quick start.

You have several ways to do this. First, you determine your client type. If you don’t have your business yet, you can make your client type’s hypothesis to start and adjusting after. It’s important, everything is based ont the client type.

Then you identify companies that have the same client type as you.

And action ! You will offer several things to these companies :

  • You can leave them your visit cards, flyers, etc.

  • You can ask them to actively promote your services with a commission

  • You can offer something for free to their clients as a free eBook « 7 tips to…. » in exchange of customers emails to send them the eBook.

There are other ways of making partnerships but they are good to start. There are people who will be afraid to do this but it’s worth for your company.

Muscle Memory

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

Muscle memory is an action execute with a lot of repetitions physically or mentally. The body will learn to execute this action more effectively using less brain power.

Your muscles don’t have brain but rather your brain learn to create a procedure list to execute tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible. The majority of the time you do these tasks in mode « procedure » of your brain and this become automatic. It’s like cache memory in your computer or smartphone.

When you play at the first time to a video game, you must learn how the controls work (and you’re really bad). You must learn to :

  • Look left and right

  • Use gun/sword

  • Jump and rolling

  • Move, avoid enemies

  • Attack, defend, cast spell

After several hours of gaming, your muscles begin to memorize. After several days or weeks, you do these things effortlessy.

  • Defeat a boss with combos, rolling, attacking, defending and spell casting.

Muscle memory isn’t only for video games. This helps for several things : driving, cut vegetables, play a musical instrument, etc.

When we decide to be healthy in the real life, this concept of « automatic response » is an important element.

Unfortunately, this can have bad effects :

  • If you spend several months to learn badly to do squat, it’s very difficult to stop this bad habit and relearn the squat in the right way.

  • If you learn to play a song in a bad way (or another activity), you learn to your body « it’s the good way to do it », even if it’s the bad way.

  • When you are busy at school/work and take candy and soda to manage stress, you brain will be train to say : »it’s the most effective way to be happy ».

We really talk about to build habit. Muscle memory can help us to understand how and why we failed in the past and how to do to change it

We’re creature of habits. The things we do everyday like the way we walk, the way we talk, the way we sleep (or not), things that make us happy or sad are the result of hundred and hundred of repetitions of these activites.

When we try to create new habits, it’s a lot, a lot of work.

For exemple, rather than going to McDonald’s, we must remember of :

  1. Go to the supermarket

  2. Take vegetables and chicken

  3. Go home and prepare vegetables

  4. Cook chicken

  5. Prepare the table

  6. Eat

If you don’t have these habits rooted in your brain, just read this list can be exhausting.

Look this exemple : rather than stay a home to watch the TV, we decided to learn squat :

  • Get under the barbell

  • Tighten the shoulder blades and place the bar correctly on the trapezoids.

  • Inhale deeply and go down

  • Knees lined up with toes

  • Explode back up with proper form

You saw these 2 cases, there is a lot of change !

Automatics things like going to McDonal’s or watch TV, come easy. We’ve always done them and thex require little effort. It’s like a second nature. The second part (new habits) require a lot of amount of effort (don’t worry, you can do it). I tell you, there can have barriers or closed doors the first few times but you must not give up.

After all these repetitions to have healthy habits, I can confirm that train and eat heatlthy is a second nature for me !

How to build

In the Malcolm Gladwell’s book « Outliers » , he talk about the concept to master. In his research, he found the the most experts spend around 10 0000 hours to master their professions.

The most important is to not to spend 10 000 hours to practice. It’s to spend 10 000 hours to do the good practice.

Play the same song on piano in the wrong way during 10 000 hours will only allow you to play with eyes closed this song in the wrong way.

Work actively on your technique with a coach or a teacher to focus on imporving all aspects of playing the piano.

To build this muscle memory in our life, we don’t need to spend 10 000 hours of practice living healthy but we need to practice. Without do regulary a healthy activity, you will never feel your new healthy activity like a second nature.

You need to :

  • Take one or two new habits you want to create. No more !

  • Make things easy to do this activity. Minimize difficulties between you and this new life activity that you want build. Find a way to complete this activity using the minimum of willpower.

Exemple :

  1. Take one or two new memory : Rather than to completly change your training program to stop to use machine and start to use barbell/dumbbell, change just one exercice. Instead to do Leg Press, do squat. After 3 weeks when you feel good with squat, you can change another exercice.

  2. Minimize difficulties for the new activity : Do you want run every morning ? Sleep with your running clothes, put your alarm clock across the bedroom and put your running shoes next to the alarm clock. You are half ready, right ?

  3. Remove the need to remember what you need to do : I rename the alarm of my smartphone « Meditation ». When I wake up, my smartphone tell me to do my meditation.

  4. Eliminate the need to use the willpower : I spoke of willpower. We all know we need to eat healthy and do more exercice but we don’t do it. Then when we try to rewrite our DNA and our second nature, we must be strategic.

    If you are always tired after school/work and you miss your training, maybe is better to do your training in the morning before to go at school/work ?

    If you struggle with unhealthy foods during stress moments, do a « purge » and throw out unhealthy foods from your house. It’s harder to eat junk foods when you must go out to buy one.

    If you struggle to stop to pick foods from fast foods before you go home, change streets. Choice different streets to go home, streets without fast-foods.

The essence of all that has above is the practice. You train your brain/body as an integer to build healthy automatic habits.

Momentum is a powerful thing : If you can’t do all these healthy habits when you life become crazy. Take one or two healthy habits you can do and continue to practice. By this way, you don’t need to start back at square when your life will return to normal.

Two Words To Improve The Life

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

The last time you stopped a book at the half ? The last time you walked away during a movie ? The last time you stopped a video game before you beat it ?

« Finish what you start ! », that what my parents tell me and I think is the same thing for you. The good new is parents don’t have right all time. In fact, there is a lot of reason why we need to stop something we haven’t finished.

Here two words that allow us to stop things we don’t like to do : Stop and No, thanks.

Human being like progress. We like check empty boxes and say : « It’s done ! ».

I’m sure, if you begun a book, movie or tv show several days ago, you will do everything to finish it. You want to finish it even if you don’t like it, just to say : « it’s done ».

Remember, ours lives on this earth are limited, so, we need to spend the maximum of time to do things that make us happy. Say : « I need to finish it » is not applicable.

This phenomenon is : « I already begun or I already paid, now I must finish ! ». It’s called « Sunk Cost Fallacy » and there is a good explanation in LifeHack .

Think of all the things you begun and after you realized that is not interessting but you continue to the end like tv shows, books, projects, restaurant’s meal, a crappy relationship or you career (watch this TED’s video  ).

It’s OK to stop to do crappy things in your live to do things that make you happy. It’s not because you begun that you must finish.

We know guts is necessery to have long term success, but spend time and energy to do things with stubbornness and obstinacy isn’t the recipe for success.

We do things in ours lives because we simply begun to do them one time. Stop everything is useless, but stop things we don’t like to do can allow us to use this time and this energy to improve things we like to do.

Say No, it’s cool

Did you watch Jim Carrey’s movie « Yes Man » ? Do you do like Jim Carrey ? Do you do things out of obligation or because you’re afraid to miss anything incredible ? The truth is your life is a piece of shit if you say « yes » to everything.

Say « No » to opportunites, trips and request look terrifying. When you say « No », you ask yourself if you miss something great. But this allow you to focus on important things like take care of yourself, take care of your health and spend time with people who are important for you.

Eric Barker talk about it in his blog   :

« No » creates focus.

Warren Buffett once said : « The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say « no » to almost everything ».

And that’s what gives them the time to accomplish so much.

Everything is said. We should stop to say « yes » out of obligation. How many nights you went and it was sucked ?

« No, thanks » allow you to avoid to do not interesting things to focus to spend time with family/best friends, improve a skill or an exercice or to learn to cook a health meal.

Everyone complains to don’t have enough time in a day, but we don’t take time to select what is important and what is not important.

Here is a manual to is from today :

  • Stop something – Stop a book, a movie, a project that doesn’t interrest you anymore

  • Say « No » to something – Say « No » to something that you do usually out of obligation and spend your time to do something important or something that makes you happy.

In my case :

Pour mon cas :

  • Stop something – I unsubscribed me from several YouTube channels. Now, I have only YouTube channels that teach me something. I subscribed to 18 YouTube channels and it’s perferct.

 

  • Say « No » to something – I say « No » to a party (reunion) with old students of the primary school. I have enough with parties where everybody repeat same memories. However a old friend put me a word on my door, blablablabla but no. Instead I recover and I’m learning the human anatomy to learn deeply how muscles work during training. Serioulsy, it’s cool.

Be Unplugged From The Matrix (Part 3)

If you struggle to improve your lifestyle, here following the list of the most important elements that I wrote in all my articles.

Imagine that you talk to Morpheus :

I’m not happy => Change something in your life or change you mindset (meditation)

What do I have to change ? => Choose one thing and change it. Track results

I am overwhelmed => Breathe deeply. Selects a thing. Change what you can control now.

Will I be happier with more money ? => Yes, but only up to a certain amount

What is more important than money ? => Time, the time you spend with the people you love or doing things you love. This time never return.

I don’t have enough time to do things that must be done => You have mismanaged your priorities.

But I have to do something => No excuses, improves your agenda

But I might offend someone by saying NO => No excuses, better to not go if you don’t want to be there.

But the timing isn’t good => The timing is never perfect. If you wait for the perfect moment, you have nothing. Begins now.

How to make a good impression ? => Look into the eyes and smiled. Speak slowly, stand up straight. Wear clothes fit with your physique.

I’m in a bad relationship => Stop this relationship

What happens if I can’t find a better person ? => What happens if you find a better person ? What happens if you get hit by a car tomorrow ?

I got dumped, I’m heartbroken => But you’re still alive so there is hope for you.

But nothing is easy => I know ! If that was it, everyone would be happy with everything !

I’m not the type of person who does that => Stop sabotaging your life with limiting thoughts. You’re not the type of person who did this or that until you do. Now you’re the type of person who acted

It doesn’t work for me => OK, continue to do what works

But what I’m doing doesn’t work => If you always do what you always did, you always get the same results

But why ? => Evolve or die !

When should I start ? Now !

Useless To Have A Better Body ?

I’ve wanted to look like people on magazine cover or in music videos (50 Cent), it’s already happened to you ? I think that it’s already happened for everybody. Having an athletic body seemed to be really cool. But as you can see in fitness’s world and bodybuilding, there are several types of athletic physique. Some may be achieved naturally and other with steroids.

Confidence or obsession

Why you want to have a better body ? This is to feel better in your body and have more self-confidence or you want to make money with your physque (personal trainer, fitness model, competition, etc.) ?

It’s interesting to ask you this question because there is an important point : « We always feel small ». When your goal is based on physical appearance, so like a pro, you always seem to not be quite muscular. I say this because I live it. I look at a picture and I look at me in the mirror and I think : « Damn, there is still a lot of work ! ». At this point, it can become an obsession.

Shit, I’m obsessed with my muscles !?! Well, what I meant was there is some tricks to avoid that this obsession becomes too big with stuff like :

  • If I have 6-packs, I’m happy

  • If I fit in these pants, I’m happy

Those little things show you that you have made some progress and it’s always good to remember.

Finding Balance

Having obsession to have a better body isn’t a bad thing as long you find the balance. The purpose of having a better body is to be healthy and happy, right ?

Health: You aim to have a healthy body with no physical problems. You change in a healthy and sustainable way.

Happy: You can do activities you want without your body prevents you from doing. You feel good about yourself. You’re naked or swimsuit, you trust in you because you determine your personal « look ».

Having a better body is something very motivating but when you get always compared with someone else, this can become a poison. Not to lose myself, I tell to myself :

Be better than yesterday

Be a better version of yourself

And you, have you found a way to improve yourself without fixate on your flaws or compare yourself to another person ?

Your Beliefs Sabotaging Your Life ?

You and me, we have beliefs that sabotage our lives. This prevents us from using the maximum of our potential. But how we can sabotage our lives ? We want to be happy, right ? I will share with you some tips.

Self-fulfilling prophecies

To begin, how we doing to have beliefs that sabotage our lives, limiting beliefs.

  1. We had a bad experience with something or someone told us that we were bad for something.

  2. We are so afraid to relive the pain of that experience that we avoid doing that again.

  3. If we have to do it again, we don’t give the best of ourself to say, « You see it doesn’t work ! ».

  4. We will never be better in this activity because we don’t practice.

  5. This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I find this process work for me to create my limiting beliefs and I think it’s the same for you.

Change and improve yourself

There are things you like to do but you had a bad experience with and this have blocked you. Now that you understand the process, find your limiting beliefs and do them. You can do it because you’re a beginner, you don’t need to succeed right away. When we’re beginning, we make many mistakes, this is normal, this is how we learn to be better. There is a quote that I like : « An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes ».

One time

Just one time to destroy a limiting thought. First of all when you do an activity, this is for you and only for you. Critics from the people who are around you doesn’t matter. I’ll tell you why, whatever you do something good or bad, they will criticize you. What is important is : you choose the life you want to live (tell them from me FUCK YOU !).
