Mistake To Avoid During A Presentation

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned some good stuff.

2-3 years ago, I participated in Robert Kiyosake’s « Rich Dad Workshop » , it’s the author of « Rich Dad, Poor Dad ». I returned to this workshop a few months ago and the speakers were less dynamic than the last time. Besides, there is one person who made a classic mistake that we make during a presentation. This error is to display a text on a big screen and read it. It’s really boring.

Reading a text that is displayed on a large screen in front of everyone is a bad idea because it breaks the presentation’s dynamism. This creates a moment of flutter because you’re disconnected from your audience. But, there is an even more scandalous reason that this one. Typically, people read between 250 and 500 words per minute while the average speech rate is approximately 150 words per minute. This means that people have already understood the text before you have read the half aloud. The bottom line is that people have to wait for you to finish reading the text aloud when they have already read everything and that is awful, pffffffff.

Most difficult thing in a presentation is to keep the audience’s attention and reading aloud a text that is displayed doesn’t create any surprise’s effects. If you absolutely have to read a text during a presentation, read this text without displaying it on the big screen. It will not be the most excellent thing in the world but people will discover the content as you speak. In this way, the audience will be more likely to be attentive to what you say.

I don’t know if you know but there is a little trick when we make a presentation with PowerPoint. In PowerPoint, it’s possible to see the text before it appear on the big screen, it’s Presenter View . With this configuration, there is a private monitor (your laptop) and a public monitor (big screen). This allows you to see in advance what the audience will see.

Ok, this software used in the scientific study is not accessible for more than 80 % of the population but there are several software that can allow you to improve your intelligence like that used in the scientific study.

There is IQ Mindware. There is another one that is open source so free called Brain Workshop. These software are for people who really want to improve their intelligence because they are based on the principle of Dual n-back . It’s very difficult and it’s the only way to improve your intelligence.

The results of this scientific study showed that the maximum gains obtained with 20 minutes of training per day for 19 consecutive days. This is 10 % improvement with the 8 consecutive days of training and 44 % with 19 consecutive days of training.

Train your brain with IQ Mindware or Brain Workshop (I use this one) will allow you to improve your concentration and motivation. Everything you need to improve your ability to have successful projects.

Meditation is excellent for improving your concentration. Before, I was often lost in my thoughts when I was doing a task and in the end, this task was done badly. Have you ever been lost in your thoughts when you were doing a task ?

Meditation is cool because you can do this in 5 minutes a day and you don’t need any equipment. You just need a little time and a quiet place. You see meditation is accessible to everyone and can be done by people of all religions or these who have no religion.

The goal of meditation is to train your concentration. That means to focus your attention on something specific. For example in bodybuilding, when you do the dumbbell curls, you fix your attention on your biceps. Meditation is a simple and effective way to become aware of your « parasitic thoughts ». These « parasitic thoughts » that make you no longer focused on your task and lost in your thoughts. When you realize that you’re lost in your thoughts, you can redirect your thoughts to be focus again on your task.

Scientific studies have discovered and are still discovering meditation’s benefits like an enormous reduction of stress, anxiety, anger, depression, immune system improvement, positive emotional improvement and a better attention. For people with hypertension, there is a decrease in blood pressure and an increase in longevity of 23 %. Scientists always find new benefits in meditation.

Meditation improves health AND also intelligence as ability to manage emotion, increase concentration, reduce attention problems, increase memory and visual processing capacity, improve learning ability and reduce your risk to multi-task. Doing multi-task ruin your productivity.

If you want to enjoy meditation’s benefits, you can start with a simple exercise without equipment today :

  • You sit comfortably in a quiet place. If you want you can sit in the lotus position but it’s not obligatory. You close your eyes and take 3 deep deep breaths to relax. Once you relaxed, you focus on your breathing. You focus on your inhalation and your exhalation and the goal is to concentrate as long as possible on your breathing

While you are going to think about your breathing, full of thoughts will come constantly and it’s normal. It’s destabilizing but there is a technique for your mind to be less distracted. The technique is to count the number of your inhalation and exhalation.

  • When you inhale, you count « 1 » in your head (don’t speak) and when you exhale, you count « 1 » then when you inhale, you count « 2 » and when you exhale, you count « 2 ». You do it from 1 to 10. When you’re 10, you count upside down from 10 to 0. When you realize that you’re lost in your thoughts and you’ve lost count of the number of breathing, you start again at « 0 ». You don’t give up until you’ve been able to count from 0 to 10 and 10 to 0 without interruption at least once.

You’ll see that many thoughts will come because it’s absolutely impossible to think of nothing. Don’t worry, it’s normal. As soon as you realize that you’re lost in your thoughts, come back to focus on your breathing without feeling any particular guilt.

Do this simple meditation 5 minutes a day will give you many benefits that I quoted in this article.

People when they start to create content on their blog, YouTube channel or Facebook page, they’re afraid to give good quality content for free. Now, it’s normal to give free content so that people get to know you and analyze your expertise. Lets people decide if they like or not your expertise. This is how you build your audience by sharing your knowledge and your expertise. Give something free is the first step to give something to pay.

Don’t hesitate to give the best of your content. If you keep the best for you thinking you can sell it later, you make a huge mistake. The only way to show to the world that you’re one of the best in your field is to show for free what you can do.

There is a lot of free content on internet, the competition is so aggressive that it’s quality that makes the difference.

Paid Content

The free content you have, you can use it in a different format by adding value. Here are some example :

eBook

You can sell a digital book with the best content of your blog/youtube channel (free content). The main thing is that you have to be transparent about the content of this book. The value that this eBook has compared to your blog/youtube channel is that it gathers content of your blog/youtube channel in relation to a theme in a format easy to read (PDF or Kindle). You can also add exclusive content.

Grouping content around a thematic in on place can have an added value of $10-$15. For many people, it’s more convenient to pay for this eBook than spend several hours looking for content in your blog/youtube channel.

Online training

It’s the same thing, you use the free content you have but you present if with videos. The video’s value is greater than the text’s value. Oh yeah, podcast audio is between the 2. It’s better than a text and less than a video.

Look, a Harry Potter’s book is cheaper than a Harry Potter’s DVD/BluRay. It’s the same content but formats are different.

In an online training, people don’t want only content well presented, they want an efficient tracking, an interaction with the community and a network to meet other people with similar interests. An online training also has a pedagogical curriculum that is nonexistent in the free content.

Olivier Roland have an online training of 9 months with more than 140 videos organized in 7 modules. By example if it’s a blog’s training logically blogs participating in training are evolving during online training. This is not just theory, at the end of the training, each blog will have achieved its goals. This is the true value brought to people.

Content

Content is just a part of the equation of what people want. We can recycle content in different ways. But beware, nothing prevents us from putting exclusive content in our eBooks or in our online training.

Yet another way of giving content. Make a workshop in « LIVE » with Facebook, Youtube or Instagram. It’s a way for you to meet your audience and make people meet.

Did you ever see a movie at the cinema and after you bought the DVD/BluRay ? I think « yes » (I also do this). It’s the same content but in 2 different format.

Did you buy an album from a music group that you like and then you go to see their concert ? I think « yes » (I also do this).

We do that because the experience is different. So don’t be afraid to give free quality content. This is the only way people have to see if your work is of good quality.

An example with 2 entrepreneurs :

  • Entrepreneur A : He said : « Hello, I’m the best personal trainer of the world, it’s me the best ! ». On his website, we can watch only one trailer of his training program that lasts 3 minutes.

  • Entrepreneur B : He said : «  Hello, I’m a personal trainer. I have a blog and a youtube channel, you can see my programs ». On his blog and his youtube channel, there is a lot of free content to lose weight and gain muscle.

Which entrepreneurs will have a growing audience ? Entrepreneur B because he share his knowledge and his expertise.

Give free content means that this content doesn’t have a pedagogical curriculum. People who come to see free content have all different goals and this allow to the content creator to have a lot of freedom of expression.

A paid content need to have a pedagogical curriculum to reach a specific goal. The organization and consistency of content must create a value that goes beyond simple content.
