I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned good stuff.

When I was a child and I watched a movie on TV, there were advertisements during the movie. When I watched these advertisements I never told myself : « Wow, it’s too cool, I’ll buy it right now », I told myself : « No, again ! » and I took my smartphone. I think you do the same thing.

This kind of advertising that interrupts what you’re doing is called interruption marketing. I’m happy, this kind of marketing is dying. It was a type of marketing that worked well in the years 1950-60 with TV. It was the first time we wached advertisements with a visual, sound and music, it was impressive. This advertisements format allowed to have access to more people than a advertisements in text format.

This interruption marketing has been successful and others companies have used this method. There are so many advertisements everywhere that we can find that on a supermarket receipt. I watched a TV report clip where people were paid to have advertisements on their own cars (it’s not normal, really !).

We are so harassed by advertismements that our brain developed a filter so that we can live our lives quietly. It’s cool because the interruption marketing is less and less effective and companies noticed it.

It’s for this reason there is a new generation of marketing, it’s the marketing of permission.

The concept is to ask the permission from a group of people to contact them with informations and advertisements that are in their interests. We know that this will potentially interst them and if they don’t care, they will not give us permission.

The concept of interruption marketing is to have access to a maximum of people as possible. The permission marketing is the opposite because people give us permission. The audience is more listening because the brain’s advertising filter is disabled, simply because the theme of advertisements they’re interested in.

Use the 21st century marketing. Here’s how I use it :

  • I publish articles on my blog that attracts a group of people (bodybuilding and internet business). I create content that interests my future clients. It’s cool because I know my future clients share the same passion and same values than me.

  • To go to the next step, I offer free additional bonuses like digital books (eBook), free complet training program (on my other website) and link to effective smartphone apps

  • To have acces to these additional bonuses, you need to subscribe to receive my newsletters (mailing list). When people subscribe to receive my newsletters, they give me permission to contact them.

  • When people receive my newsletters, they unsubscribe at any time. In each email there is a link to unsubscribe by clicking, it’s very easy.

As soon as people subscribed to my newsletters, I know that these people are interested in products/service that are complementary to bonuses they used.

Exemple

Take an exemple with a blog about cats. You have a blog about cats and when person subscribes to your newsletters that person receives a free digital book (eBook) « 5 tips to keep your cat healthy and long live ». You’ll learn 2 things about that person who subscrided to your newsletters :

  1. This person is interestd in cats

  2. It’s possible that this person has a cat or wants to have a cat

It’s a specially targeted audience. Now, you know that this person will be interested by a book, a training or a physical product that will help this person to have a cat happy and healthy.

With this method, there is a audience’s screening. You don’t lose you time to try to sell your products/services to a person who is totally disinterested in what you do.

Fanbase

This concept is perfect to build a group of people who are of what you do. This means that you build a fan-based internet company or based on a tribe.

I advise you to read this Seth Godin’s books about it.

This has nothing to do with interruption marketing that based on client’s amount. With permission marketing, there is a better profitability and a better human relationship. With this concept, we feel like helping friends because the entrepreneur and its audience share the same passion and same values.

The entrepreneur help its audience to accomplish a goal he/she has already achieved or the entrepreneur want accomplish a goal and its audience witnessed its evolution. Usually entrepreneurs do both. It’s obvious that it’s not possible to know all people of an audience but it’s easy to communicate with them. If there is a Meetup or a meeting with the community, everybody will be able to talk about cats for hours and it’s great to meet passionate people.

Marketing

Permission marketing works with everything. Interruption marketing will work for long time because campanies are putting a all lot of money into it.

Internet companies and startups therefore 21st century companies need to use permission marketing to adapt to the industrial revolution.

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

Chasing the illusion

« This training shocks muscle », « it’s a training from army » or « this diet work without change what you usually eat ». You have already heard these slogans several times I think.

This type of advertising always encourages us to look for the last training program, last supplement, DVD,etc.

We’re happpy, we can have an athletic body in 3 weeks with a training program. We believe it but after 3 weeks, we have little result, we stop and we depress. It was an illusion.

All the year, be consistent and patient, this is the solution. 2 elements are enough to be healty : diet and exercices. Matrix’s companies sell us illusions like « this training program target the belly’s fat ». These illusions have as objectives to incite us to buy them and not to help us to be healthy.

Select a simple training program and use it all the year. I offer simple and free training programs for all body muscles. Test it.

Remember, the body need a maximum of 12 weeks to be accustommed to a new diet and a training program. Once your body is used to it, you have to wait several years to have an athletic body (3 years). Day after day your body improves but it’s first inside and after outside. Your internal organs have priority.

Emotion

Our emotions prevent us from being in good health. Do you don’t believe me ? Here some exemples :

  • I did my training session today, I can eat cookies
  • I eat a cookie just one time. It’s good, another one
  • It was hard today at work, I need to eat it

We need to learn to control our minds by associating positive emotions with exercices and healthy diet. It’s important because we can have some cases where we eat 1000 calories of cookies and we burn only 300 calories during a training session. These emotions These emotions make us make exceptions and if we do them more often, we risk doing no training and healthy meals in the week.

Do meditation and follow a personal development’s program are great to reprogram our minds.

Tips to start

  • Use calendar’s alert in your smartphone for your training session

  • Cook your healthy meals of the day ahead

  • When you’re hungry between meals, drink water

  • If you want watch TV, do bodyweight exercices before

Pleasure

Often people think that do physical exercices isn’t fun. They imagine that to be in good health, it’s eat salad and run for hours or be on a bench surrounded by athletic people. This image is enough to discourage a lot of people.

I’m healthy and I don’t eat salad, I have my portion of vegetables. I run once a week and there is others way to do exercices like strenght training, gymnastics, frisbee, hike, etc. Find the physical activity you like. If you do a physical activity you don’t like, choose another. You need to have pleasure doing this physical activity. If you don’t have any idea, do a search on internet.

Bulk

Women say often « I don’t want lift weight because I don’t want bulk ». Then women avoid dumbbells and run for hours and do crunchs. And if they use dumbbells, they choose the lightest possible.

Women have this behavior because in a women’s magazine, they read that to have a « toned » body, it’s necessary to make high reps with lightweight.

A « toned » body is a word or term create by marketing specially for women. Women can’t bulk up by lifting weight. To bulk up, it’s necessary to eat more calories than the body burn them. The truth to have a « toned » body is that you have to use heavy strength training with low repetitions

The most articles write in magazines, it’s the Matrix to ruin your life. It’s lies and the proof is that women are still looking for an effective training progam. Look, my sister still doesn’t listen to my advice and 4 times a year, she changes her workout.

A strenght training is great to build compact (or « toned ») muscles. Test a strenght training for a month, do a picture before/after and I sure that your pant’s size will change. Test it one time with a healthy diet.

Action

I know a lot of people that read a hundred of documents about fitness/bodybuilding and they don’t do a sport activity. Theory without practice is useless except to show off in front of friends. Einstein to validate his theories had to test them on the field. I don’t know, may be they’re afraid to choose a bad training program and diet ?

If you want my opinion, start today. Select a training program and follow it. The truth is that there is no perfect training program. And the secret of a perfect training program is to use it and adjust it month after month. Here are the steps of the perfect training program :

  • Select a training programme

  • Follow this program for 8-12 weeks

  • Track your progress

  • Look how your body change

  • Make adjustments

  • Repeats all these steps to infinity

Companies Need To Have A Blog

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  about this subject and I share what I learned with you.

The idea is that all companies should publish content. All companies whether the local baker or the company that manages the nuclear power plant. All types of companies without exception.

Why ?

Publish things that really help people who are in the same domain as you. Help them to either reduce a problem or help them to achieve their goals. It’s true that for the nuclear power plant’s example, it’s a challenge but content could that explains advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power. The key is to give content that will teach something to your reader, information that they can use everyday.

With the bakder’s example, you can teach people how to make bread. It’s true that it is against intuitive because if people know how to make bread at home, they will no longer go to the baker.

But maybe not ! You’re going to teach people how to make bread, but they will not have time to do this everyday and the baker doesn’t sell only bread. The fact of really help them by giving good advice for one thing will increase your authority. This will improve the way they perceive you as an expert. This will increase your relationship with them and they will appreciate you more. The result is that they will come more often in your bakery and will be more receptive to offers that you make.

Content is the way to have more clients and to have real fans.

Here is a real example with the blog « Bonne Gueule » (french blog)  which is a men’s fashion blog, created in 2007 by two students (part-time). At first it was a normal blog that published content and they sell content products like books and online training. A few years later, they were able to sell their own clothes. Today when we go on their blog, it’s still a blog with articles, content videos that help people but we can also order their clothes they have made.

When we go to the product page, we quickly see the difference between « Bonne Gueule »’s clothes and classic e-commerce clothing. There is a video that explains why clothes are manufactured in this way, recommendations to take care of clothes and advice to wear them with style. With this type of content, they go well beyond a traditional shop because they give really good advice on choosing clothes and dress well even if we don’t buy their clothes.

Now « Bonne Gueule » opened two shops: Paris and Lyon.

Content makes the difference in the perception that people have of you between the company that just wants to sell the maximum of products to make money and true leaders who help people to progress.

Ask to yourself: « what kind of content could interest my prospects and clients and can help me to create a community? ». There is an excellent book by Seth Godin « Tribes »  which explain why internet is a great tool to create tribes or communities. The reason is that people are buying less and less after seeing an advertisement but buy more and more after having an advice from a trusted person.

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video (in french) to make money on internet without advertising and that’s really what you do to have a solid foundation for your business.

With advertising we earn a few cents per click. Mathematically, it takes a huge number of clicks on ads to have a good income.

Sponsored articles or affiliations are also a way to make money but it’s still not good income. Fortunately there are other ways. Bye, bye, the Matrix !

Product creation, it’s with this we can really have a good income online. Here are the steps for product creation.

Without traffic source (visitors) on internet, you don’t exist. There are 2 categories of traffic source : free sources and paying sources. You can use them together but usually we focus on one.

A free traffic source can be a blog, a Facebook page, a YouTube channel, a Twitter account, an Instagram account. It’s a traffic source that makes people discovered you on internet and they want to see your new content and they might want to buy your products.

A paying traffic source can be some advertising on Google, Facebook, Twitter and all social networks that have an option to broadcast advertising. You can also contact websites or popular person on one of these social networks to advertise for you.

Qualified list

Once you have traffic, you have to convert a portion of visitors to a qualified list. A qualified list is a list of people who have given you permission to contact them and are interested in your future products. Typically this is a list of emails. Even today, the email list is the most powerful tool for communicating with people and offer your products. You can better communicate with a person who gave you their email than a fan on Facebook or Youtube. This is a stronger relationship.

How to do to have qualified people ? It’s simple, to thank them for having subscribed to your « Newsletters », you will offer them a gift that will interest only those who will be interested in your future products. For example, you want to sell a book on bodybuilding or bodybuilding courses online. You’re going to offer to your audience to register to your « Newsletters » in exchange of a small eBook or video like « 5 mistakes to avoid when you’re starting bodybuilding ».

By doing this, you know that people who gave you theirs emails are interested in bodybuilding.

Once you have your traffic sources and your qualified list, you’ll do a survey. Do a survey allows you to reduce uncertainty about the product you’re going to create. The mistake that many entrepreneurs do is to create the product they want rather than creating the product that the audience wants. This is how entrepreneurs create a product that is not selling and waste time and money.

The magic question for your audience to find out what it wants, « What is your biggest problem, your biggest frustration with (the theme of your domain) ? ». For bodybuilding it would be : « What is today your biggest problem, your biggest frustration in bodybuilding ?, What blocks you today ? ». In answering this question, your audience will tell you what product you should create because you created a product that will solve the problem of your audience.

Timing

Another entrepreneurs problem is that they want to create the perfect product. This can take months or years and when it available, it’s a failure. This can happen even if the product meets the survey questions because the product took too long to be created and the audience forget it.

How to avoid this ? Make pre-orders of the product. The pre-order is ethical, legal, and you can be transparent with your audience with it. You can tell your audiance : « Okay, great, thank you. I saw that in the survey, you want me to do that. I created the specifications for this product. Today you can buy the product for pre-order and the delivery date is scheduled for that date. You can purchase the product for pre-order at a price with a discount ».

The key to this approach is that you create the product only if you make enough with pre-order sale. If you don’t make enough sales, it doesn’t matter, you reimbursed the buyers and you make a new survey to find out more details about the problem of your audience. Your audience will understand.

This will make you gain a lot of time. Imagine a person who takes 6 months or 1 year to create a product that is useless because it isn’t selling enough. With this method, before creating the product, you know if it’s profitable or not.

You create the product only if you make enough pre-order sale. In this case you know at 100% that your product will be useful to your audience.

With all these steps, you create the product that your audience ask, then you’re sure to have a good turnover. It’s possible that you make several survey to define your product, it’s normal and it’s how you improve your product.
