What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I heard Olivier Roland’s tips and I learned some good stuff.

You know, sometimes I worked all day like crazy and at the end of the day, I felt like I haven’t progressed. Maybe you have already experienced this? That’s why I’m always learning new things to be as productive as possible. There are 2 books that help improve productivity and time management, it’s “Getting Things Done” and “Cut To The Chase” .

Here are tips from these 2 books to improve all this.

If a task can be done in less than 2 minutes, do it right away

Immediately make a task that requires less than 2 minutes has several benefits:

  1. Adding a task on your To-do list requires less than 2 minutes, it’s the same number of minutes as for a task that can be done right away.
  2. It’s more efficient to add the task that require more than 2 minutes on the To-do list, otherwise this list will be endless and unmanageable.
  3. Don’t make a task that requires less than 2 minutes right away can have disproportionate consequences in relation to the time needed to achieve it (like sending a confirmation or cancellation message).

So remember, if this task takes less than 2 minutes, do it now.

Warning

Sometimes you have to plan moments to focus only on a task or an important project. These specific moments shouldn’t be interrupted, even by a task than requires less than 2 minutes.

Try it so you don’t have any insomnia

Insomnia reduce productivity. Often the source of insomnia is malaise, bad mood, stress, poor sleep hygiene, etc. Insomnia can have serious consequences in the relation with others and can also cause road accidents, drowsiness, memory loss, absenteeism and the list goes on.

For chronic insomnia, it’s advisable to see a doctor for treatment. For transient insomnia (up to 3 months), there is an tip to free your spirit of thoughts that obsesses you.

Put a paper and a pen next to your bed. When you have a thought that obsesses you, you write it on the paper and beside you write the action you have to do to erase this thought.

Here is 2 example:

  • If the thought is: “I have to send a quote to this client”. You note on the paper: “Client quote => Look for supplier prices”.
  • If the thought is: “I have to lose weight”, you note “Lose weight => Look for a personal trainer”.

As you write down your thoughts and the action you should take, you should feel more peaceful.

Have an attitude “Let’s go see”

Sometimes, going on the field can help you learn more than analyze data on your computer. So the next time there is a problem, go see for yourself on the field. This may allow you to have ideas for finding a solution more quickly.

Don’t use a foul language in the workplace

It may sound like grandparent’s advice but it’s common sense. When you use a foul language, you can offend a person without knowing it. A person who doesn’t feel offended in the workplace is a serene and productive person. An offended person doesn’t want to work and wants to find another job. Many entrepreneurs have lost talented people because of their foul language without knowing it.

Not using foul language avoids conflict and difficult situations to manage.

When you do something, ask yourself why you do it

Often we do things out of habit, without wondering if it’s worth doing. This can waste time and energy and it would be better to stop doing this task or delegate it.

So regularly, ask yourself this question: “What happens if I delete this task?”. If the answer is nothing, stop doing this task. If the answer is something else, look if you can delegate this task.

Do it

No matter what dream you have, do it realize in your life. Here is a quote from Goethe: “Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it”.

Close the loop

has anyone ever told you, “Well call you back if there’s a problem”. And 2 week later you have no news and you wonder if everything works well. I know there is this quote: “No news is good news” but it’s frustrating t be in uncertainty. When a person doesn’t close the loop, it leaves others waiting and this can complicate relations. Don’t be like these people, stay in touch to avoid complicated situations.

Don’t let your smartphone become your master

With new technologies, we can stay in touch 24h/24h. But that’s not a reason for every smartphone notifications to be a priority. Sometimes I see people, every time there is a notification, they take their smartphone as if it was the end of the world. No matter where they’re and no matter what they do.

Define time slots and limits for the use of new technologies. Turn them off when you need to be focused for a task or meeting. Let others know that you no longer look at your emails and messages after a certain hour or weekends.

With that, you create a clear border between the moment you work and your private moments. It allows you to destress.

Personally, I turned off the sound for notifications from my smartphone. It’s really cool to do that, I’m more serene.

Save your computer file regularly

There are 2 types of users:

  • Who often back up
  • Who don’t back up until the day they lose important data

Losing files on a job you’ve been working on for months is very annoying. So backup often and take advantage to make copies at different locations (such as an external hard drive). With Cloud, you also have access to Google Drive and Dropbox which are very effective. Better to save than not enough.

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

I discovered what it was an infopreneur by reading Tim Ferriss‘s book « 4-Hour Workweek ». It was a book that was recommended in a personal development’s blog and this book has completely changed my way of seeing a « job ». This is definitely a point of view that we don’t learn at school, even at business school.

The profession of infopreneur is a very interesting profession and evolves all the time because of new technologies. In fact, if you don’t know, an infopreneur is a person who earns money on internet with information products. These information products aren’t news but they’re information to help people achieve a goal on a specific area.

What is special about this job is that we enable people to be more effective in things that are important to them and the result is that they’re happier.

Workplace

One of the advantage of this job is geographical freedom. The company is based on internet, which means that you only need a computer and an internet connection to work. There is no obligation to go to a workplace, you can work every day in a different place or in a different country as long as you have access to an internet connection. There are more and more jobs that allow you to have this freedom like programmer, virtual assistant, bookkeeper, data entry, copy writing, translator, travel agent, transcriber, etc.

It’s a profitable business because selling information on internet makes it easier to reach a large number of people with little money.

Distribution

Imagine how it was to sell a book before the invention of printing. Even if you had written the best book in the world, it was hard to live on it. Imagine, so that 2000 people can read your book, you needed 2000 handwritten copies of your book. Copying books was not a really cool job, so you can imagine how complicated it was. If you offer me a job that consists of copying 2000 books of 300 pages, I’ll answer you : « No, thanks !!! ».

With the invention of printing, authors started earning more mony because more people could read their books and that to increase later with the invention of copyrights.

With digital books (ebooks), it’s possible to sell 100 or 1 000 000 books without the huge costs of printing, distribution, storage and return management. There are still costs but they’re very low for the servers and the support (for example a client didn’t receive the email to download the ebook).

With internet, it give you the opportunity to manage the distribution of your information products yourself. Before internet, you had to have an appointment with a manager of a radio, television to reach as many people as possible. If this manager liked your work, you could have ads on radio, television but if this manager didn’t like your work, no ads.

Many talented people couldn’ have a great exposure to make known their talent because of these « Gatekeepers ». Internet allows you to no longer need to these gatekeepers to reach a large number of people.

Emotionally Manage Negative Reviews

When we have company, we read customer reviews to improve the products/services. But we have a way of thinking that can hinder the company’s evolution. Here is an example, for a product the are 10 positive reviews and 1 negative review. The problem is that the entrepreneurs will think 1000 times more about the negative review rather than 10 reviews positive.

To change this way of thinkging, it’s necessary to understand that this is part of human nature. We have been educated by evolution to focus more on negative things than positive things. And yes, our ancestors lived in an unstable environment during the vast majority of the existence of the human being. Here are some examples :

  1. Our ancestors were very attentive to the elements that were partially negative. They could be very happy, have a great day but they had to pay attention to the powerful animals that could, by surprise, kill them.
  2. Our ancestors had to pay attention to the disputes that had in the village because these disputes could deteriorate the village’s stability. This can result in creating friction that undermines trust in terms of collaboration for survival.
  3. Our ancestors were never satisfied with their situation and this motivated them to improve their lifestyle through science.

Solution

As you’ve seen, this is a way of thinking that we have in human nature and there are some tips to avoid being obsessed with these negative reviews. I propose 3 solutions :

  • Ignore them. The more negative reviews you see, the more you’ll be desensitized to that. It’s not very complicated because if your company is working well, you have few negative reviews.
  • Delegate the management of reviews to a member in your company. This allows you to avoid being on the front line in the emotional impact to be less affected. It’s true, this solution have a problem. It creates distance between the entrepreneur and the customers feedbacks. It’s for this reason that it’s recommended to set up a procedure for the member who handles the reviews saying : « From now on, it’s you who manages the reviews. The thing I would like you to do is that you only transfer negative constructive reviews to me ». Negative constructive reviews are the criticisms where you see the urge to help.
  • Create an email address only for positive reviews. For example, you can name this email : « positivereviews@yourCompanyName.com » and tell to the person who manages the reviews that each time he/she receive a positive reviews, he/she send it to this email. You can also tell to this person to make a screenshot of a positive review from social media and send it to this email.

With this email address, you create the email of happiness. This will be useful for moments of demotivation and doubt. If, for example, there is an negative reviews that makes you feel bad and you think about it several hours later, you can log on this email, read positive reviews and realize that you’re doing a good job. It’s really a special feeling to know that you’re changing the lives of many people. It’s really fantastic and it allows you to relativize.

It’s possible to make a combination of the 3 solutions. It means, you force yourself to read the negative reviews to desensitize you ; you delelgate part of the process to manage the reviews ; you create a magical email as a psychological support.

These solutions allow you to put things in their place so that you don’t get overwhelmed by negative emotions.

Understand This Human Behavior To Boost Sales

There is human bias that needs to get around to get your company up to the next level. What’s interesting with marketing is that it exposes human behavior. Marketing allows us to understand good and bad human behavior

Lazy

This one of the most common human misbehavior. Take the example of a registration page for online training. There are 200 prospects interested in this training who gave you their emails to know the start date.

You divide the prospects into 2 groups, group A and B. For group A (100 prospects), you ask them to write their first names and emails and click on the OK button in the form to register. For group B (100 prospects), their first names and emails are already pre-filled in the form, just check the information and click on the OK button. In group B, there will be about 10% more registration compared to group A.

Which means that in group A, there are about 10% of prospects who don’t have enough energy or motivaton to write their first names and emails in the form.

Honest

This is one of the most common good human behaviors. Take the example of a guarantee of 30 days without conditions satisfied or refunded. Technically, there are plenty of people who could benefit from this guarantee by saying : « I’ll use this product for 29 days and I’ll ask for a refund ». Of course, there are people who do that, but it’s always surprising to see that it’s a small minority. It’s something nice to see.

Psychology

Unfortunately, there are limits in honesty and it’s necessary to understand some human bias to have a good company. Otherwise your company is in jeopardy.

In a detective tv show, there is a perone who is looking for the best detective for his problem. The hero of this tv show is a detective.

The person sees the hero and says : « I did some research and you’re the best in your field ».

The tell him : « You did some research, but what exactly did you do ? ».

The person answers : « It’s simple, I went to see all your competitors, I asked them who was the best detective and they all said it was them. Then I asked them who was the best second detective after them and they said it was you, that’s why I realized you were the best ».

Did you see the human bias in this example ? When you ask a pro who is the best, he’ll answer you : « Me ! ». The pro does this because he wants to sell, he has his personal pride and maybe he really believes he’s the number 1 compared to others.

Which shows that it’s difficult to have the most objective answer possible with this question. By understanding this human bias, you can use a question that gets around that. This question is : « Okay, it’s obvious you’re the best but who’s second best after you ? ». In the majority of cases, the answer is objective.

Price

Let’s take another example. An entrepreneur conducts a survey with his prospects to determine the selling price of a product. The question is : « What is the price you would pay to buy this product ? ». If you ask your prospects how they want to help them, they’ll be honest but when you talk about the selling price, it become complicated. When you ask the question about the selling price, they will always tell you a lower price compared to the price they could pay.

There are 2 reasons :

  1. When a person ansers this question, she thinks : « If I tell him I’m willing to pay 100 dollars, he’ll sell it to me at $100. So, I’ll tell him $50 like that it will be cheaper ». It’s a behavior that all human beings do (me and you included).

  2. There are people who don’t know how much they would be willing to pay because they can’t see the product. When they see the product and see what it can improve in their life, they’ll decide whether to buy it or not.

To solve the problem of the 1st reason, ask the question this way : « As you’re one of the people who helped me to create this product, you’ll have a special price, but what do you think the price is that the rest of the world should pay ? ». With this question, the prospect knows that he is going to have a special price so he can give a more objective answer.

To solve the problem of the 2nd reason, there is only one way. It’s showing the product to prospects.

When you do a survey to prospects for the sale price, it’s very important that prospects understand that they’re going to have a special price. Ask the questions : « What price would you pay to buy this product ? » and «  As you’re one of the people who helped me to create this product, you’ll have a special price. But what do you think the price is that the rest of the world should pay ». You will be surprised by the different answers you will have. Test it !

Obviously, it’s not only with this question that you will determine your selling price, it will be just a clue. It’s very useful to understand human psychology otherwise you risk choosing a selling price really too low that should be and earn really less money.

Trick To Be More Productive

Have you ever finished a day completely exhausted and after analysis, have the impression of having accomplished nothing ?

Don’t worry, it has happened to me and it happens to everyone a few times. The truth is that it’s important to understand that there is a difference between being productive and being busy. It’s really something that you have to remember often.

To be busy

Here is an example, imagine that you spend all day pushing a building with hands. It’s serious, you really want to move the building. It’s obvious that at the end of the day, you’ll be very tired but the building will not move.

You’ll have to spend a lot of energy, give a lot of effort but the results are negative, the building did not move a millimeter. In fact the efforts you make aren’t systematically correlated to the results you will get.

With the building’s example, it’s easy to understand that this task destined for failure but with the activities of every day, it’s more complicated to identify.

Let’s use another example. Imagine that you spend all day pushing a block of stone on the sand. At the end of the day, the block of stone will have been moved a little bit (and this is a better result than with the building). But is there a way to move this block of stone faster ? Yes, with a crane, it’s more efficient and it takes less effort. It’s true that finding a crane requires a lot of energy and time, but the crane allows you to have better results more impressive. With the crane, you can move the block of stone in 30 minutes to the destination.

To be productive

Often the methods to be productive requires a lot of effort and you have the impression to build nothing, but when the methods are put in place, it will give you continuous results without asking you a lot of effort.

Today, after my training, I spoke with a gym employee about blogs. He wondered why I had a blog because for him blog are dead. It’s true that blogs are less fashionable than videos and it’s true that a blog takes years to have an interesting traffic to build a company.

But what he doesn’t see and what the majority of people don’t see is that if the content of the blog has no expiration date, 5-20 years later, your blog’s content will have always value and will be usable. If yo create content based on news, 2 months after your content is no longer valuable and no longer usable.

And it must be added that the blog’s mailing list is more efficient than social media’s subscribers when it comes to promoting your product/service. It also makes me think that since 2005, every year, people say email is dead, ahhaha haahahah.

Vision

It’s not easy to realize that we’re busy instead of being productive and it depends on our perception. By having a clear vision of what you want, you create a company that is at the service of your life rather than your life at the service of your company. Creating content with no expiration date to educate people is my vision. On internet, one of the keys to success is to be able to create the maximum content without expiration date to not be dependent on fashion phenomens.

With this vision, it helps you identify when you’re busy and when you’re productive. This skill allows you to search for what is most effective to reach your vision. At first, there are things that you consider effective and they’re not and vice versa. The process to reach your vision is to explore new things to move forward and grow.

Become Insensitive To Haters

To be successful, it’s really necessary to have the ability to ignore haters, especially on internet.

Beginners are unaware of the emotional impact that haters can create and it can also scare people who want to start their company online. When you develop your internet presence, avoid haters is impossible.

Hater

A hater is a person who feels the irresistible urge to send you a message by email, comment or tweet to tell you :

  • You’re the stupidest and ugliest person in the world

  • Your content is the most insignificant thing since the creation of the planet earth

  • That he/she hopes that you don’t make children to not spread the evil on the planet earth and that you die quickly

These 3 things are what say haters in general.

The truth is, you can’t avoid that. Select one of your favorite artists, athletes or actors, check out one of his/her video on Youtube and read the comments. You can see the quality’s level of comments and it makes people lose faith in humanity. And it’s not just haters, there are also people who tell a lot of bullshit and insult each other.

A hater is a person who is bored and has no purpose in life, so that person is trying to create trouble in your community and psychologically impact you in a negative way. Fortunately on social media, it’s possible to ban haters.

Don’t be afraid

I know many people who want to create a blog, a podcast or a Youtube channel but they’re afraid of having a bad buzz. I know a medical student who wants to create something to help students who are in 1st year of medical school but he still doesn’t do anything. This is the same situation as people who never drive because they are afraid of an accident or people who never take a plane.

It’s important to understand :

  • It’s extremely unlikely

  • Even if you have a bad buzz, you’ll survive

  • In any case, you will build a community that will support you.

When you look at the biggest bad buzz in history, it’s rare to see that the sales falls caused the bankruptcy of the company (or maybe you know a case I don’t know). Sometimes there are people who have been a bit traumatized by a bad buzz but in the majority of cases, there is little damage.

The best revenge you can have for haters is to have a good life. To be afraid of the haters that make you afraid to act, that you’re paralyzing, it’s showing to the world that it’s you who are leaving intimidated by something that is very unlikely to happen.

Haters are also called « Keyboard warrior » because generally haters allow themselves to make type of criticism about people on internet but they are unable to do in real life, face to face. They’re comfortable behind their keyboard because they suffer no consequence.

So don’t be intimidated by the keyboard warriors and what I recommend you to do, it’s to keep a bottle of champagne to celebrate your first hater. It’s important to know that having haters is a necessary step in your success. Having your first hater is a sign that you’re on the right track because you’re disturbing someone.

Constructive criticism

Among this ton of negative comments (95%), there are also critics who can help you improve. To identify these critics, you must ask yourself this question : « What is the intention of this criticism ? Do I feel that the person wants to help me ? ».

If you feel that the criticism of the person is to help you, you can analyze the criticism and see if you can do something that interest you. If not, you can ban the person. Unfortunately, you’ll see that the majority of critics are not made to help you.

Remember that about haters :

  1. They’re inevitable

  2. They’re a sign of your success. Everyone has haters, even the people you admire the most

  3. They’re keyboard warriors. They say things that he/she doesn’t allow himself/herself to say in real life, face to face.

  4. Keep a bottle of champagne for the day you’ll have yor first hater

  5. To identify constructive criticism, ask yourself this question : « Is there a positive intention in this criticism to improve myself ? ».

When Your Internet Company Is Not Working

Here are some tips to improve your situation if you want to have an internet company or you already have an internet company. These principles are basically intended for infopreneurs, it means selling information products (ebook and online training) but over time all companies should use these principles to boost their reputations.

In an internet company, there are 3 pillars : traffic, authority and relation.

Traffic

This is the number of people who visit your website and your entire ecosystem (social media – instagram, youtube, facebook, snapchat, twitter, etc.).

Authorities

This is the way your audience sees you as an expert. You can be an excellent expert and not know how to communicate, so your audience sees your expertise at a level below your actual expertise. And it can also have the opposite situation where your audience sees your expertise at a level higher than your real expertise. In this case, you’re a crook !

Relation

This is the level where your audience appreciates you as a human being rather than a company.

Pillars check

What is interesting to do is to note where you think you are in the 3 pillars (traffic, authority and relation) from 1 to 10. « 1 » is the person who has just started and « 10 », is the person who is one of the best infopreneurs in the world like Gary Vaynerchuk  or Casey Neistat .

Don’t hesitate to ask people you know to have a more objective point of view. The ideal is a close friend who is really interested in your company and who understands what you’re doing. Ask this friend : « What rating would you give me between 1 and 10 ? Go ahead, be frank, you don’t need to spare my ego ! ». With an outside eye, it will help you find the problem.

It’s possible that you have a huge traffic on your website but if people don’t perceive you as an expert who has enough experience to help them and they don’t like you (they perceive you more like a salesman as a human being), they will not buy your products and services.

Conversion rate

This concerns the conversion rate between your traffic and the people who sign up for your email list. People who sign up for your email list are people who are really interested in what you’re doing and who want receive the free gift you are offering (ebook or exclusive video). People who subscribe to your email list have given you permission to contact them through their email knowing they can unsubscribe at any time.

What it interesting to do is to note where you think to be in your conversion rate from 1 to 10 ? For example, when there are 100 people visiting your website, how many are subscribed to your email list ? If you rate is 0, you’re not offering any interesting gifts or you’re not making a call to action for your email list. In these cases, you have to work on it to offer a better free gift or tell people that they can sign up for your email list.

We must know that today, email remains the most effective way to contact people and it will remain so for a long time. Attention, that doesn’t mean that when you send an email thanking for the loyalty of your subscribers or a promotional email for a product/service, you shouldn’t also talk about that in your ecosystem (social media) with a video, a picture, a post on different platforms.

It’s important to know that if you’re doing content marketing and your company is based on the free content you create, you need at least a 5% conversion rate. If you do below that, you have work to do to improve your conversion rate.

It’s possible that you don’t have a product or service to sell or like me at the beginning, I sold a product but there are only 5 people who bought it. In this case, you can do a survey with the people who are on your email list to find out what is the problem they would like to settle as quickly as possible. With this method, you’ll soon be able to create a profitable product because you solve the main problem of you audience. Attention, it’s necessary that you have 1000 people subscribed on your email list to make this survey.

Coaching

This is one of the simplest ways you can make money. It doesn’t matter if you have more than 1000 people on your email list. When we start an internet company, it’s the easiest thing to do. You offer your skills as a service to your audience. With a small audience, a good authority and a good relation, you’ll have people who will be interested to work with you by doing coaching sessions on Skype, for example.

Ebook

If you’re a person who likes to write (like me), you can create an ebook that you can sell between USD 17.- and 27.- to start earning some money.

Action

We could talk about this for hours because every situation is different. I don’t know your situation but by following these advices, you will be able to improve your company’s situation, so ACTION.
