What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I heard Olivier Roland’s tips and I learned some good stuff.

You know, sometimes I worked all day like crazy and at the end of the day, I felt like I haven’t progressed. Maybe you have already experienced this? That’s why I’m always learning new things to be as productive as possible. There are 2 books that help improve productivity and time management, it’s “Getting Things Done” and “Cut To The Chase” .

Here are tips from these 2 books to improve all this.

If a task can be done in less than 2 minutes, do it right away

Immediately make a task that requires less than 2 minutes has several benefits:

  1. Adding a task on your To-do list requires less than 2 minutes, it’s the same number of minutes as for a task that can be done right away.
  2. It’s more efficient to add the task that require more than 2 minutes on the To-do list, otherwise this list will be endless and unmanageable.
  3. Don’t make a task that requires less than 2 minutes right away can have disproportionate consequences in relation to the time needed to achieve it (like sending a confirmation or cancellation message).

So remember, if this task takes less than 2 minutes, do it now.

Warning

Sometimes you have to plan moments to focus only on a task or an important project. These specific moments shouldn’t be interrupted, even by a task than requires less than 2 minutes.

Try it so you don’t have any insomnia

Insomnia reduce productivity. Often the source of insomnia is malaise, bad mood, stress, poor sleep hygiene, etc. Insomnia can have serious consequences in the relation with others and can also cause road accidents, drowsiness, memory loss, absenteeism and the list goes on.

For chronic insomnia, it’s advisable to see a doctor for treatment. For transient insomnia (up to 3 months), there is an tip to free your spirit of thoughts that obsesses you.

Put a paper and a pen next to your bed. When you have a thought that obsesses you, you write it on the paper and beside you write the action you have to do to erase this thought.

Here is 2 example:

  • If the thought is: “I have to send a quote to this client”. You note on the paper: “Client quote => Look for supplier prices”.
  • If the thought is: “I have to lose weight”, you note “Lose weight => Look for a personal trainer”.

As you write down your thoughts and the action you should take, you should feel more peaceful.

Have an attitude “Let’s go see”

Sometimes, going on the field can help you learn more than analyze data on your computer. So the next time there is a problem, go see for yourself on the field. This may allow you to have ideas for finding a solution more quickly.

Don’t use a foul language in the workplace

It may sound like grandparent’s advice but it’s common sense. When you use a foul language, you can offend a person without knowing it. A person who doesn’t feel offended in the workplace is a serene and productive person. An offended person doesn’t want to work and wants to find another job. Many entrepreneurs have lost talented people because of their foul language without knowing it.

Not using foul language avoids conflict and difficult situations to manage.

When you do something, ask yourself why you do it

Often we do things out of habit, without wondering if it’s worth doing. This can waste time and energy and it would be better to stop doing this task or delegate it.

So regularly, ask yourself this question: “What happens if I delete this task?”. If the answer is nothing, stop doing this task. If the answer is something else, look if you can delegate this task.

Do it

No matter what dream you have, do it realize in your life. Here is a quote from Goethe: “Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it”.

Close the loop

has anyone ever told you, “Well call you back if there’s a problem”. And 2 week later you have no news and you wonder if everything works well. I know there is this quote: “No news is good news” but it’s frustrating t be in uncertainty. When a person doesn’t close the loop, it leaves others waiting and this can complicate relations. Don’t be like these people, stay in touch to avoid complicated situations.

Don’t let your smartphone become your master

With new technologies, we can stay in touch 24h/24h. But that’s not a reason for every smartphone notifications to be a priority. Sometimes I see people, every time there is a notification, they take their smartphone as if it was the end of the world. No matter where they’re and no matter what they do.

Define time slots and limits for the use of new technologies. Turn them off when you need to be focused for a task or meeting. Let others know that you no longer look at your emails and messages after a certain hour or weekends.

With that, you create a clear border between the moment you work and your private moments. It allows you to destress.

Personally, I turned off the sound for notifications from my smartphone. It’s really cool to do that, I’m more serene.

Save your computer file regularly

There are 2 types of users:

  • Who often back up
  • Who don’t back up until the day they lose important data

Losing files on a job you’ve been working on for months is very annoying. So backup often and take advantage to make copies at different locations (such as an external hard drive). With Cloud, you also have access to Google Drive and Dropbox which are very effective. Better to save than not enough.

This Problem Is Blocking Your Success

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

In the last Leonardo da Vinci’s biography written by Walter Isaacson (who is also the author of the Steve Jobs biography, 2011), we can see that he was an extremely curious man. This curiosity allowed him to explore several different areas, boost his creativity and make a huge contribution to art. But the downside is that he kept changing projects.

Because of this, Leonardo da Vinci left a mind-blowing number of unfinished works of art. There are several scientific fields where he could have advanced the humanity of 2 centuries, if he worked more and published his results.

Attitude

This show us that we all have different attitudes to things that interest us, to our projects. We can explore something because we want to know how it works or master it to improve our lifestyle.

Attitude is very important in life. For example when you do something you like, you don’t have the same attitude as for something you like moderately or not at all. The last project you did, did you give the best of yourself to the end or not ? The question is whether you’re aware of the mission you want to accomplish through the project.

Mission

In a project, the mission, the goal is essential. There are many people around me who say they want to be successful. They say things like : «  Yes, I want to be successful, if I find success around the corner, I would not say no. It would be cool ». But that doesn’t happen like that. To succeed in a mission, it’s necessary to give the best of oneself. And it can take many years, so don’t be naive. With internet, there is a myth that makes everyone believe that in 2-3 years we can be a millionaire, that’s wrong.

When I created my blog, I had friends who also had their blog or YouTube channel, but they all stopped. We didn’t have the same mission and the same attitude when we started. You can see in the top left of my blog this sentence : « I’m building my legacy ». This is my mission.

It’s really good to be curious, but once you’ve found something that interests you, focus on it. Work on this passion in « Guerrilla » mode to develop it, because it will become your main source of income. When I say « Guerrilla », it means that you give the best of yourself. You want to know what skill you have to learn, you want to learn from the best players in the field, you do tests to innovate, etc.

With a definite mission, a « Guerrilla » attitude and patience, you’ll have the success you deserve in your project.

Work Effectively And Earn More (Part1)

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned good stuff.

Everyone wants to work more efficiently to save time and make more money. There are 2 books to learn how to do this and I’m going to do a synthesis of 2. Maybe you already know theses 2 books, it’s « 4 Hours Workweek  » by Tim Ferriss  and « The One Minute Millionaire » by Mark Victor and Robert Allen.

Before you start, it’s important that you know that there is a special relationship between time and money. The idea is to better manage your time in your day to make your money work for you and make more money. There are several actions to put in place to do this and these actions based on 3 laws :

  • Leverage – Leverage gives you the speed to reach your goals faster. With a lever, you can control several elements. There are 5 types of leverage in 5 forms. We’ll see this in detail.

  • Pareto’s law.

  • Parkinson’s law

Let’s start with the leverage and its different points of support. There is a very interesting quote from Archimedes :

« Give me a place to stand, and a lever long enough and I will move the world »

Leverage allows you to reach your financial goals more easily and quickly. The higher the fulcrum is, the higher you can go up and far.

Money from others

Very useful in the real estate because the money of the banks and the tenant can allow you to have an additional income and a heritage. This heritage is largely financed by the money of others.

Skills of others

By meeting professionals who have more experience than you and mentors on your professional field, you can follow their examples. This allow you to access years of knowledge in a very short time, and avoid making mistakes that can cost you a lot of money and waste a lot of time.

Ideas of others

Find a partner who is willing to share ideas. For example to create your business instead of reinventing the wheel, you can join a franchise network to use and implement a business model that has been proven.

Time of others

Use the skills of someone who has more experience than you, by this way you can save. Delegate tasks.

Work of others

Support a team that is capable to manage things for you without you need to give last minutes instructions. Create a team with a list of instructions so that they are as autonomous as possible.

Mentors

Mentors are an incredible source of information. Select the people who inspire you from the people who have succeeded in the field you want to master.

Team

It’s known to many we can accomplish more than alone. A team makes it possible to work in synergy and to find solutions more quickly. Find people who have the same values as you and who have complementary skills.

One of the best example of a successful team is the team Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs who together created Apple. Steve Wozniak is a computer genius, he created the first Apple computer, the Apple 1 and he largely created the Apple 2 that made the success of Apple. Steve Wozniak is a very nice person but at the time, he didn’t have the skills to sell these computers. Steve Jobs was a sales genius but he didn’t have the skills to create these computers.

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs separately have never been able to create something as impressive as Apple, the association of these 2 people who shared the same values and the desire to offer people computers easier to use have marked the history of computer with Apple.

Networks

The more professional relationships you have, the greater the leverage will be. Grow your network in the areas where you want to share and work.

Skills and tools

Having essential tools to reach the goal and mastering the operation of theses tools increase success. Skills to master are the power of persuasion, rhetoric and humor.

Systems

Using a good system increases the chances of success. To make money, there are millions of systems (there are so many on internet). The perfect system has 5 characteristics :

  1. No need to liquidity

  2. No risk or little

  3. Require no time

  4. Require no management

  5. Require little effort

The truth is that is very, very, very difficult to find an investment system that has these 5 characteristics, but you have to try to get as close as possible to work less and earn more money.

Pareto’s law

Parkinson’s law or the 20/80’s law discovered by the economist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto. This principle explains that 20% of the countries of the world share 80% of the wealth and that within these countries 20% of the people share 80% of the wealth. Here is the basis of this principle : « 80% of effects come from 20% of the causes », which means that a minimum of causes create a maximum of effects. Always try to identify in your actions or in your company, the 20% of actions which bring 80% of results.

Parkinson’s law

Parkinson’s law discovered by historian and essayist Cyril Northcote Parkinson. This principle explain that the work extends so as to occupy the time available for the completion of a task. For example, if you put 2 hours to do a task that can be done in 1 hour, you still go for 2 hours. To have more time, we must force ourselves to have less. The basis of this principle is to do a task at 50% or 75% of the recommended time to do it.

In this section, we saw leverage, Pareto’s law and Parkinson’s law. In the 2nd part, we’ll see the 5 actions to be effective and the 4 actions to make more money.

Non Constructive Criticism

These are comments that published regularly on social media. What is the difference between non-constructive criticism and constructive criticism ? Ask yourself this question : « Does this criticism have the will to help me ? ». If you don’t feel the will to help you, it’s like 95% of critics, it’s someone who criticizes just to criticize. These non-constructive criticisms based on an extremely superficial analysis of your content.

These people read the first 5 lines of an article, listen to the first 2 minutes of a podcast, watch the 2 first minutes of a video or read only the title.

When you publish content on internet, you’ll have people who will afford advice on what you do when they haven’t taken time to really understand, to analyze what you mean. It’s known that in communication there is an huge loss of the message’s meaning between what you mean, what you say, what people hear, what people understand and what people remember.

There is also an important factor is that in all areas, beginners have an opinion on everything and they say it. Does this give them a false sense of competence on topics they don’t master ? Yes, it’s ego on my opinion.

To be honest, it has happend to me to comment on something that I didn’t take time to analyze deeply. I gave my opinion based on an extremely superficial analysis and we all have already do it. Just understand that this is a normal human behavior and that it’s not a problem.

Attention, it’s not necesssary to remove these comments because they will never disappear. The goal is to reach enough people who understand your message and practice your advice.

1000 real fans

1000 fans

To succeed on internet, you only need to have 1000 real fans. It means people who understand what you say, who agree with what you say, who like your content, who share and who buy your products. You can have 1 million people who hate you, if you have 1000 real fans, that’s enough.

Many people are afraid of negative comments and that’s a shame. Imagine yourself in 10 years. You talk to a person and you explain to him/her that 10 years ago, you had a blog, a podcast or a Youtube channel and that you stopped it because of a negative comment that touched you. Think about that, do you realize how ridiculous it is ? So continue to create content on internet.

Schools To Be An Entrepreneur

There are schools with specific courses about entrepreneurship. But several studies show that only 10% of students create their own companies. The vast majority go looking for a job.

It’s possible that these students create their own companies 5 or 10 years later but these are statistics that are hard to get.

Look this podcast about « How should Business Schools prepare students for startup ? ».

What is interesting is to talk to entrepreneurs and to see that the vast majority of them have never studied at a school about entrepreneurship.

Being an entrepreneur is like any other exciting job, we always keep learning. Being an entrepreneur is a mission of life and it’s necessary to become better day after day.

If there is no effective school to learn entrepreneurship, we know that there is a curriculum to be a businessman.

MBA

MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a huge curriculum. It’s often 1-2 years of your life after a professional experience. Which means that for 1-2 years, you don’t earn a salary. And it should be added that a MBA costs between $ 50 000.- and $ 100 000.-. You see, you really need to be motivated to do it.

It’s clear that having a MBA make it possible to have a better salary, it also helps to have knowledge in business but there are interesting critics on the results obtained on the field.

A MBA shows your employers that you’re able to sacrifice your life for your job. During a MBA, you work 70-80 hours a week to get it, which means that you’re able to do the same hours per week for your employer.

A MBA helps to create a network, but now with internet, there is another way to create a network. Interesting people don’t look for people who was in the best schools, they are looking for people who have projects and who shows that they’re capable to realize their projects.

Among the people who have negative reviews on MBA, we can find Seth Godin. Seth Godin is a well-know author and marketing expert in USA. He has a MBA from Standford and quotes : « Having A MBA is learning the best techniques for running a company in the 1990s for 2 years, while the world runs as fast as it can ».

We also have Peter Thiel. Peter Thiel is the co-founder of PayPay and Palantir and he’s the first external investor for Facebook. He has a MBA and he’s not satisfied with the results he obtained on the field.

What is certain is that a MBA is not really about creating entrepreneurs but about creating good employees able to run a company of the 1990s.

At the moment, there is no effective school in the world to learn to be a good entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur is a state of mind and a decision of life. It’s all learned on the field, reading books and talking to more experienced entrepreneurs.

There is an interesting book « The Personal MBA »  that lets you learn the basics of a MBA without spending 1-2 years of your life without pay working 70-80 hours per week and saving between $ 50 000.- and $ 100 000.-. All this only by reading this book.

But I’m open-minded and it’s possible that someone took a course on entrepreneurship in a school. If that’s your case, it would be cool if you shared the experience you had in school and how it helped you to create and grow your company.

Dispersing In Several Projects

I know several people who explain their projects and 6 months later, they explain a new project and so on. I think you know people like that too.

It’s a problem that happens very often and to understand that, you have to see the 3 steps of a project.

Fist step – start

This the excitation step. You discover project’s elements and everything is wonderful

Second step – crossing the desert

This is the step where you understand that you must give a lot of effort for little result. What is frustrating in this step is seeing people who have many years of experience doing incredible things easily while your work like crazy to do a basic thing.

Third step – experience

This is the step where, thanks to the experience you accumlated in the crossing of the desert, you begin to master the elements fo your project to make better progress.

What happens is that there are a lot of people who addicted to the first step : start. This is understandable because it’s in the step where everything is wonderful. When it’s necessary to go to the second step : the crossing of the desert, these people find a new project to redo the frist step.

Changing project for all the time to stay in the first step is a type of intelligent procrastination. These people avoid every second step, they want to have excitement without having the disadvantages of being persistent in something.

In this case, intelligent procrastination is about giving you a good conscience by telling yourself and others that you’re doing something positive for your project. But inside, concretely, you avoid doing the most important things to do to advance your projet. For exemple, you worked for months designing your Amazon website (this looks like a good idea) but since the creation of your website , you have done only 2 sales (it’s really a problem).

Projects are means to reach your final goal. The first thing you need to do is to determine your final goal and then select projects to do to achieve this goal. For exemple your final goal is to become a successful author and your project is to have a blog where you’ll write chapters of your book.

Becoming conscious of your final goal is important but it’s not enough. You need to take action to complete your project because therse projects are just means to reach your final goal.

There is another phase, it’s that after a certain time, you need to select a minimum number of projects. Successful entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs who know how to say « NO » and it’s really important. You can’t succeed in all project in your life.

How to select a promising project ? This is what you’ll want to know during the first step : start. This is the start step that will let you know if you’re ready to go to the second step : crossing the desert. It’s obvious that there is always a risk in the choice of a project. That’s something we can’t avoid at 100 %

One way to have more perseverance is to have organization, increase the strength of will and increase discipline. These are elements to work on a daily basis.

The Mistake Of Learning From Mistakes

It’s true that learn from your mistakes is a good method to improve yourself but you can do a huge mistake by doing this. Let me explain to you, the huge mistake is to only learn from your own mistakes. Look the world, we’re billions and there are billions of people who lives before us. As everyone makes mistakes, learning from mistakes of others is also a good strategy.

Look mistakes from people who are in the domain where you want progress allow you to save time and money. I think we know it but we forget to do it quickly. It’s important to have a strategy to learn from mistakes of others to progress.

I tell you the truth, I also made this mistake several times. Sometimes I noticed that I had a talent and I was alone in solo thinking that I was smart enough to succeed. I thought I didn’t need professors, books, etc. It’s an ego trip, it’s the best method to waste time and almost guarantee failure. Yes, I know there are exceptions, some people happen to be successful in being solitary wolves but it’s clear that they lose a lot of time.

No matter where you want to succeed, there is a golden rule. You need master the basics ! Once you master the basics, you can be creative but not before.

You can try to be creative before master the basics and in 90 % of the cases you’ll fail, it’s true. Look at people who are successful, people who are creative, they were all newbies and they all learned the basics.

Looks at the creative chefs who have restaurants with 3 stars in the Michelin guide. Do you think at the first day in kitchen, they said to themselves : « Go, I make a crazy recipe ? ». No, they learned to cook rice, pasta and they had to learn the basics like everyone else.

There is a company very creative that is Cirque Du Soleil  that reinvented the show. You notice that there is a lot of circus inspiration and other domains. It looks very similar to fusion restaurants. You know this concept where you take the best recipes from 2 countries and you make a mix of 2 to make a menu.

Learn form mistakes of others

The simplest method is to read the biography from people who are successful in the field where you evolve. You’ll learn a lot of things, you’ll see that they strarted from nothing and sometimes they made incredible mistakes. Reading biographies helps you avoid making these mistakes.

Second

Be in touch with people who are successful in your field. Don’t absolutely look for people who are at the level where you would like to be, communicate with people who are better than you. Ask them what are the classic mistakes that beginners make.

Put in place a stratregy to know mistakes of others and solutions they used to move forward. You’ll see, this will save you from unnecessary stress.

Attention is a thing to do in addition to attend trainings, see tutorials in video,etc.

What I mean is not be a lone wolf. Connect you, inform you, be curious, attends trainings and find mistakes that you must not make before you make them.
