What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched a Jamcore DZ’s video  and I learned some good stuff.

To put it simply, protein is an assembly of amino acids which means that you have to eat protein so that your body can have amino acids. There are a total 20 amino acids, 8 are essential and 12 nonessential. Be careful, nonessential amino acids are also needed. When you see an amino acid with the word « star », it means that it’s an important amino acid to be in shape.

What we call essential amino acids are those that our body doesn’t not produce. That’s why you have to look for them from an outside source. This outside source is the food you eat in the form of meat, egg, fish, dairy product, etc. And it’s possible that the outside source is whey protein powder in concentrate, isolate or hydrolyzate form.

Each amino acid has one or more important functions that’s why I’m only going to talk about important functions to be in shape.

Essential amino acids

Here are the 8 amino acids :

Lysine

This amino acid transports calcium to your body and reduces the tryglycerin’s rate.

Isoleucine, Leucine and Valine are BCAA (amino acids star)

These 3 amino acids have the function of giving energy, repair muscle tissue, anticatabolic, helps in congestion (pump) and helps burn fat.

Methionine

This amino acid is an antioxidant, helps in burning fat in the liver.

Threonine

This amino acid creates elastin and collagen, it’s for the skin. This is beneficial for slowing down old age.

Phenylananine

This amino acid increases alertness.

Tryptophane (amino acids star)

This amino acid reduces appetite and promotes sleep. It’s also a precursor of serotonin, that is to say gives you a good mood.

Nonessential amino acids

Here are the 12 amino acids :

Histidine

This amino acid helps recovery and growth.

Arginine (amino acids star)

This amino acid is the Viagra of amino acids. It’s also the precursor of nitric oxide which helps with congestion.

Glutamine (amino acids star)

This amino acid helps to be focus, to have more energy and helps with recovery.

Aspartic acid

This amino acid increases testosterone but is not definitive. There has been a lot of scientific studies concerning this amino acid but unfortunately, it has not been 100% proven that aspartic acid naturally increases testosterone. This is why it’s interesting to read the latest scientific studies on amino acids because we’ll discover new things.

Gutamic acid

This amino acid is a neurotransmitter and it’s also used as a fuel of the brain.

Cysteine

This amino acid a detoxifier for the liver, fat burner and antioxidant.

Ornithine (amino acids star)

This amino acid derived from arginine. It increases your growth hormone, increases your sleep and gives you more vitality.

Glycine

This amino acid increases your energy and helps the synthesis of creatine.

Proline

This amino acid protects your joint.

Serine

This amino acid increases your energy, your memory and focus.

Taurine

This amino acid increases your energy, focus and endurance.

Tyrosine

This amino acid is important for the body because it regulates your hormones which are dopamine, epinephrine and adrenaline.

Amino acid derivatives

These amino acids are not part of the list of essential and nonessential amino acids because they derive from these 2 lists.

L-Carnitine (star)

This amino acid derives from Methionine and Lysine. This increase your energy, helps burn fat in your liver and burns fat.

Citrulline Malate (amino acids star)

This amino acid derives from Arginine which allows you to produce more Arginine in your body, helps to create more nitric oxide, more vasodilatation, more congestion, more endurance and more recovery buffer of lactic acid.

Choline and Inositol

These amino acids derive from Methionine and Serine. This helps in burning fat in the liver, helps to focus and it’s a fat burner.

Create Bins and View Distributions

I have just enrolled in a Data Science course on Udemy  and I learned good stuff.

It’s cool, you finished the 1st part. Now we’re going to do more deep Data Mining analysis with this bank’s dataset.

To make these analyzes more deep, we’ll create a more statistical approach.

To do that we will create a new tab.

For this new tab, we want to understand how client distributed according to their age. Is there a majority of young or old people ?

Move the variable « Age » in « Columns ».

As we want to see the distribution of client ages, we need to use the variable « Number of Records » to see the number of observations. Move the variable « Number of Record » to « Rows ».

Boom, we have a chart but there is only one point on the top right. What happened is that Tableau took the sum of the ages of all the bank’s clients and the sum of all the « Number of Records », it means the total number of clients, 10 000 clients.

We’ll find a solution but before we’ll change the format to better see the chart. Right-click in the middle of the chart and select « Format ».

For the font’s size, select « 12 ».

Here you can see that the total age is 39 218 but that’s not what we’re looking for. What we want to see is the number of clients for each age.

I’ll explain what’s going on. We took the aggregated sums of our variables. Aggregate means that we took the total sum of the variable for each category. We added the ages but in fact we want to see the total number of observations for each age separately.

To have that, just click on the arrow in « SUM(Age) » in « Columns ».

Then select « Dimensions »

You see, Tableau doesn’t take the aggregated sum of ages but it takes ages separately. We have a curve that shows us the continuous distribution of our clients ages. That is to say, for each age, the curve gives is the number of clients of this age.

We’ll look at the dataset. Right-click on « Churn Modelling » and select « View Data… ».

There is window that appears that shows us the data in detail. If you scroll to the right, you will find the column « Age ».

We see that the ages rounded. As all ages rounded, Tableau is able to group clients by age. By positioning the mouse on the curve, we can see that there are 200 clients who are 26 years old.

If in the dataset, ages weren’t rounded, you would have seen clients with 26.5 or 26.3 years. It would create a lot of irregularity, there would be plenty of spikes with lots of variations.

Oooooh look, there is a variation that isn’t normal.

Let’s analyze it in detail. Around this peak, we see that there are 348 clients who are 29 years old.

Here, 404 clients who are 31 years old.

And this peak down that shows us that there are 327 clients who are 30 years old.

How to explain this irregularity ? It’s possible that many people of 29 years old are about to turn 30 years old and many people of 31 years old who just had 31 years old. It’s chance that make us have inaccuracies. You may have other inaccuracies if you data isn’t precise and rounded. In our case, the ages are rounded but we want to get rid of our small irregularity that we see on our curve.

There is way to see our distribution without our irregularities, it’s « bins ». « Bins » consists of grouping the information into different categories. That is we’re going to regroup our clients in different age groups.

Right-click on « Age » in « Measures ». Select « Create » and select « Bins… ».

A window appears. We’ll group our clients in 5-years increments. In « Size of bins », write « 5 » and click on the « OK » button.

As you can see, the variable « Age » has remained in « Measures » but there is a new variable in « Dimensions ».This is the variable we created « Age(bins) ».

Our « Age(bins) » variable was correctly placed in « Dimensions » because it is a category variable because each category corresponds to a 5-year age group.

For example, one category is 20 to 24 age group. Now we’ll create a new distribution based on « bins ».

To do that, we’ll remove the variable « Age » from « Columns » with a click and drag outside.

You move the variable « Age(bins) » from « Dimensions » to « Columns ».

Note

In this case, it’s not possible to directly replace « Age » by « Age(bins) » over « Age » on « Columns ». This is because « Age » is a measure and « Age(bins) is a dimension.

That’s nice distribution, it’s usually the type of distribution (chart) we see in economics or mathematics. The difference with the old chart is that this chart is discrete. This chart is discrete because the clients grouped by age group while the previous chart was continuous.

On this distribution (chart), each bar corresponds to an age range. For example, this bar corresponds to the 25-29 age group.

Now, we’ll change the colors.

In « Row », move « SUM(Number of Record) » while holding down the « Ctrl » or « Command » key on your keyboard to « Colors ».

We get our distribution in blue but we’ll change the color to red. Click on « Colors » and click on « Edit Colors »

In the window that appears, click on the blue square on the right to display the color pallet.

Select the red color and click on the « OK » button.

Click on the « OK » button of the « Edit Colors » window.

To facilitate the reading of the bar chart, we’ll add the number of clients in each age group. In « Row », move « SUM (Number of Record) » while holding the « Ctrl » or « Command » key on your keyboard to « Label ».

That’s it, we can see how many clients there are in each age group.

We see that the dominant bar is the 35-39 age bracket and the second dominant bar is the 30-34 age bracket. Overall, we can see that most clients are between 25 and 40 years old, which seems consistent.

On our bar chart, we have absolute values. We’ll replace that with percentages. Click in the little arrow in « SUM(Number of Records) » in « Label » and you select « Add Table Calculation… » but I’ll show you another way to do it.

Instead of clicking « Add Table Calculation… », click on « Quick Table Calculation » and select « Percent of total ».

It’s cool, we have the exact percentage of people in each age bracket. Now, we can see that in the 25 to 40 age group, we have 20 + 23 +17= 60% of clients.

I’ll show you one last thing.You can change the size of the slices easily, just click on « Age(bins) » and select « Edit ».

In the windows, you can change the size of the slices (bins). Put « 10 » instead of « 5 » to get 10-years slices. Click on the « OK » button.

Now, we have a distibution with fewer slices and the dominant slice is 30 to 39 years old.

Well, it was just to show you how to change the size of bins. To go back to the old distribution with the 5-years slices, click on « Back » button.

As you can see, the values on bars are in percentages but the values on the axis are in absolutes values. Here is an exercise that I ask you to do : « Put the values of the axis in percentage ». I’ll give you the answer the next article.

Stop A Bad Habit

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned good stuff.

You know, I had a lot of trouble stopping my worst bad habits. It was bad habits that sabotaged my life. Many people around me have the same difficulty I had because unfortunately nobody showed them a conscious step to stop these bad habits.

Think about it, eating healthier allows you to have better energy, better body weight and live longer. Just eating less pre-prepared meals and replacing that with healthy food allows you to avoid having hundreds of bad calories in your body and this make a huge difference in the long term.

It’s a concept that used in all fields of your life. I think you know the consequences of smoking and not playing sport ?

My old bad habits

Ok, I see you need to see concrete things so I’ll tell you the bad habits I stopped :

  • When I was 15 years old, I started smoking weed (marijuana) and quickly I smoked bong or water pipe several times a day. I stopped smoking when I started to train to have a body like 50 Cent. And after, I realized that I was smoking weed (marijuana) to get away from my daily worries. It was like pressing the « Pause » button several times in a day.

  • For several years, I have only read heroic fantasy’s books (Hawkmoon, Elric of Melnibone, etc) and no personal development’s books. It’s not a bad idea to read heroic fantasy’s books but read only that, it’s just entertainment. When I started reading personal development’s books, I realized that I had lost years of knowledge, references, tools, methods that today would be extremely useful to me. Fortunately, it’s never too late.

  • For several years when I was doing Karate or Kung-Fu, I had a bad diet. I only ate pre-prepared meals, pizza, fat foods, sweet drink, candy and I didn’t like vegetables. Today, I have a better diet and I’m proud of the result. Since I have a tool that allows me to have my diet under control, it’s MyFitnessPal  on my smartphone (except for my Saturday’s cheat meal)

I like seeing the reaction of people when I explain to them what I eat at breakfast : rice(or pasta) with meat(of egg) and vegetables. I don’t know why breakfast is very emotionally loaded while this is the easiest meal of the day to change. When you only have healthy food in your fridge and in your closets, you have no choice to have a healthy breakfast.

It may be because of childhood memory that people like to have sweet things at breakfast but our bodies are evolving and we need to feed them differently. A child and an adult don’t eat the same amount of calories to be operational.

Wait here is another bad habit that I stopped. I used to play video games for hours. Sometimes with friends we played more than 8 hours non-stop. Once I invited many girls to my condo to do a « before » with my friends before going to the club. We decided to take the bus (public transport) because we wanted to drink a lot of alcohol.

The problem is that with my friends, we were too focused on the video game and we missed the last bus. The girls had gone crazy and they made us understand that it was the last time we (me and my squad) did this (especially an ex-girlfriend, it was sex versus video games). Since then, I haven’t completely stopped paying video games but I play much less because I don’t buy the new video game console.

I guarantee you that having stopped these bad habits had an incredible impact in my life.

Your future old bad habits

Now I have a question for you. What bad habits you want ? What bad habits can you replace with a good habits ?

I advise you to make a list of bad habits you want to stop. When you have chosen the bad habit you want to stop, put in place a simple action to stop it. You can’t stop a bad habit in one night. You need to have a constant simple action to have excellent result.

For example :

  • If you want to eat more vegetables, you can use this grandmothers tactic that is to eat vegetables before dessert.

  • If you want to watch TV only for 1 hour, read a few pages of a personal development’s book.

The Right Time To Start Your Own Company

Really there is no age to create your own company ! You can do it when you’re young, middle, old and even if you’re retired. No age.

What is important is to have an idea and really want to do it, execute it. There is a lot of people who create their company at 50 years old and it’s cool.

If you think you have less chance to have success with your company because you start it at 50 years old, you’re wrong. It’s a limiting belief or an excuse.

This envy may be caused by the bitterness of not realizing a dream or the loss of a job or people who are retired who are bored and want to have an activity.

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and there is good stuff.

Plagiarize others smartly without copy what they do but have an efficient inspiration. It’s possible copying something people don’t think about.

Olivier Roland talked with a youtuber and this youtuber told him he has completely plagiarized Casey Neistat. Casey Neistat  is a famous youtubers with more than 80 millions views. The truth is this guy copied the video’s structure of Casey Neistat. The thing is copy the sturcture of something that works and not the content.

Star Wars

You know Star Wars of George Lucas, these films are famous but George Lucas copied a structure. Joseph Campbell wrote a book called « The hero with a thousand faces ».

In this book, Joseph Campbell analyzed a dozen of myths around the world. Old myths we still hear today. He did it for several reasons. First, for him if there myths with thousands of years are still told today, there is a natural selection for myths. Only myths interesting to the human mind have survived. Second, if we analyze myths from Africa, Europe, oceania, asia, america, etc, we can find the common point they have. Joseph Campbell found what he call the « monomyth ». It’s a narrative structure in stories that talk deeply to human mind in a universal way.

When George Lucas discovered the Joseph Campbell’s work, he had already begun to write Star Wars but it was a revelation and he rewrote a big part of the scenario following exactly the Joseph Campbell’s sturcture. There is a lot of movie and books that use this structure like Matrix. It’s funny to compare the structure of Star Wars and Matrix with the monomyth’s structure.

It’s always smart to copy structures that work. When you see something that work don’t look the content as 90 % of people do, try to analyze the structure. In which order the content is presented, what rhythm, what type of interruption, etc.

Olivier Roland did improvisational theater for 3 years. The concept is to ask to spectators a subject and create a story with this subject. It’s not easy but every story has the same structure so just take the subject and tell it with this structure. Improvise the content without improvising the structure, it’s cool.

This is the monomyth of Joseph Campbell :

  1. A hero receive a call to adventure. In Star Wars episode 4, it’s 2 droids that have a message from the princess Leia to Luke.

  2. The hero refuses the call to adventure by this way we can be more connected with him/her. We appreciate him/her because he/she like everybody. He/she is not really courageous. A hero is someone who become a hero. In Star Wars episode 4, Luke doesn’t really refuse. It’s his uncle and aunt who tell him to stay at the farm.

  3. A trigger will encourage the hero to accept the call of adventure. For Luke, it’s his family that gets killed.

  4. During the trip, there is a lot of problems, incidents and the hero will meet people who help him/her. Typically there is as archetype the old sage, the princess, etc. There are also enemies who will put the hero to the test.

  5. At the end, the great confrontation with the wicked.

Here is the structure of all classic stories. Braveheart has the same structure. You can watch a youtuber and try to understand the video’s structure. It isn’t easy to do reverse engineering because we aren’t used to doing it. We don’t think about it but you have to know that the structure make at least half of the success of something.

We can copy at 100 % a structure. It can make at least half of the success without anyone noticing it and without ethical problems because a structure is a method. It’s cool, right ?
