Optimize your working time

Use Pareto’s Law by focusing on the 20% of your actions that contribute 80% of your results and using Parkinson’s Law to determine how long to complete a task.

Here are other actions to put in place to optimize your time :

  • Don’t disperse yourself

  • Stop multitasking – This has been scientifically proven to be a waste of time and productivity. Read this scientific study .

  • Stop interruptions – Things like smartphone notifications, emails or messages.

  • Group actions.

  • Remove unnecessary tasks – To find out if you’re doing a useless task, ask yourself this question from Peter Drucker : « Why am I doing this ? Is it necessary ? » With this question, you can easily delete unnecessary tasks. Exceptionally, you can use a notification on your smartphone that displays this question every 30 minutes. It’s a type of reminder all day long.

  • Identify the 20% of things and people that cause 80% of your problems and delete them. If it’s someone in your family, talk to that person 2-3 times a week instead of every day.

Automate everything you can

Many tasks can be automated in companies. For example to send messages on social media (I use Buffer  ). It’s possible to automate a sale on internet, it’s the customer who does everything. The customer looks for a product, uses his/her credit card by filing out the payment form of the website, and the bill created automatically based on the information provided by the customer, etc.

It’s also possible to automate a company, this is the case of Drop Shipping. Drop Shipping is when you sell products that you don’t have in stock and that are sent directly from the supplier to the customers. Amazon offers this type of service too, you can put in their catalogs products that you sell and entrust to Amazon for the stock’s management, sending and returns of products. There is also the case of muses that explains Tim Ferriss in his book « 4 hours workweek ».

Delegate

Focus on your strengths and delegate the rest. Create a list of tasks that you want to delegate with instructions. Then gives these tasks to a team by assigning each type of task to a specialist.

Duplicate

There is no point in reinventing the wheel. You can duplicate the recipes of your mentors success and use that in your own company.

Recycle

A job that you did can be reused in a different form. For example, articles from a blog can be used to make a book, a podcast or a video.

Determine your goal and strategy

Determine your goal, your process to reach it and the strategy to put in place. Here are some examples of strategies for developing your wealth :

  • Replace your salary with real estate income and start your own company.

  • Keep your work as employee and invest a maximum on stock market to create passive income.

  • Create a company to have a complementary income like a blog, a podcast or a Youtube channel.

  • Buy a piece of land and build several apartments (condos).

  • Etc.

Optimize your management to spend less money

  • Analyse the things you have to pay to eliminate waste : unnecessary subscription, insurance too expensive, etc.

  • Print your bank statement and analyze it

  • Seeking a way to achieve the same result by spending less : compare, buy cheaper, negotiate to save money for the things you really need.

  • Optimize your taxation by reducing your taxes.

Recycle your skills and your work

You can work on something once and get paid several times. You can create a seminar, keep 3 children instead of 1, you walk 5 dogs instead of 1, etc.

You can also use a job you have already done to create complementary income. Foe example, if you like to take picture, you can put them in stock photos on internet.

Duplicate the processes known to create wealth

  • Pay yourself first

  • Make money work for you by saving at least 10% of your income to invest them.

  • Invest in yourself with training to learn new skills

Here are the options you can use to create a company that serves your life (and not your life serving your company). With internet it’s easier to use these levers with a blog, podcast or a Youtube channel by creating content.

It’s true that a frequent question, how to optimize taxation when we start a company.

It’s extremely simple. Here are the 3 most important steps to do when we create a company :

  • First step => sell

  • Second step => sell

  • Third step => sell

The only thing that is important is to find customers who are willing to pay for your products/services. Everything else is superfluous.

Spend all your days looking for ways to pay as little tax as possible or have a Zen office to stimulate your creativity or create your website with the best design in the world, all this is superfluous. This is intelligent procrastination.

To grow your company, you need to find customers in the most efficient way possible.

Be profitable

The truth is that you’re going to ask yourself how you can optimize your taxes when you ask yourself: « Wow, I’m paying too much taxes now, I need to improve that ! ». When you ask yourself this, you’ll have ways to pay a specialist’s service. And it will also mean that your company is profitable, which is excellent.

It’s normal for an entrepreneur to minimize costs as much as possible to make the company profitable. But taxes shouldn’t be an obsession because it can make you forget the company’s mission. Your company isn’t profitable because you pay the minimum taxes. Your company is profitable because of the added value of your products/services.

So when you start your company, the 3 most important things are to sell, sell, and sell to have a profitable company.

From Beginner To Become Your Own Personal Trainer (Part 1)

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and I learned good stuff.

Before to read this article, I advise you to read Find The Gym For Your Goals Part 1 et Part 2; Back To The Source Of Equipment Part 1 et Part 2; Back To The Source Of Human Strength Part 1 et Part 2.If you already read it, continue and have fun.

A strong body is a healthy body, you have heard this many times but it’s not easy to do. Starting a new workout can be intimidating. It’s, for this reason, a lot of people fail.

How you will train

To start, you have to find out what kind of strength training you want to do. It depends on the equipment and your goals. Here are several types of training programs :

Bodyweight

With a bodyweight training, you need little equipment (or not at all) and you can train everywhere (home, hotel, playground, workplace). As long as you have room to move, you can train.

If you like bodyweight training, take a pull-up bar and a set of gymnastics rings. If you’re really a beginner, an exercise band  can assist you in the movement like pull ups and dips.

If is that you can do bodyweight training without equipment, the disadvantage is that you need to constantly change exercises difficult to be sure to progress.

Dumbbells

Dumbbells are excellent for starting a workout with weight for several reasons.

First, gyms always have a good set of dumbbells. If you want to train at home, you can buy a set of adjustable dumbbells (that’s how I started in my bedroom).

The second reason is that dumbbells allow you to add a small amount of weight to do an exercise and exercise with dumbells are less intimidating that exercise with a barbell. For example, if you’re a beginner, starting with a 20kg (45lbs) barbell is a bit too much.

Dumbbells also allow you to work your symmetry and allow you to balance the strength of your right side and left side of your body. It’s ridiculous to have an arm or a leg extremely bigger and stronger as the other.

If you can’t finish a repetition, it’s easy to throw dumbbells on the floor compared to a barbell. For a beginner, it’s excellent for learning movements.

The disadvantage is that to evolve, you need to buy new dumbbells and this can be expensive. A gym membership is handy to avoid this problem.

Barbells

If your goal is to gain only strength, this is the recommended option. Barbell allows you to progress cleanly and quickly by adding a small amount of weight each week.

A barbell is really stable because you use your 2 hands instead of 1 hand for dumbbells so it’s easy to lift heavy (especially for the lower body like squat of deadlift). For exercises like the squat or the press, you can use the rack to load and unload weights safety.

The disadvantage is that to do this at home, you need to have a squat rack, a barbell, a bench and enough weight plates in your house or in your garage. A gym membership is handy to avoid this problem.

What’s the best way to train?

The barbell is optimal for gaining strength. Bodyweight training is good but you have to seriously motivate you to train at home.

Sometimes you have to adapt to the situation to be able to do your training. When I travel a bodyweight training is perfect if I don’t have access to a gym.

But the best workout is when you lift heavy. Nothing can replace squat, deadlift and body weight pull up.

There are also other ways to have a strength training like rock climbing, yoga or parkour.

Choose the program to follow

Never go to the gym without having a plan. To get results, it’s necessary to have a plan to track your progress.

For to make a lot of progress, a beginner can have a full body program of 3 times a week with a day off between training days. Be sure that the program you choose matches your goals, A powerlifters will have a different training from a bodybuilder or an endurance athlete.

In my article Back To The Source Of Human Strength Part 1 and Part 2, I talk about numbers of repetitions and their goals :

  • Reps in the 1-5 range build super dense muscle and strength

  • Reps in the 6-12 range build a somewhat equal amount of muscular strength and muscular endurance.

  • Reps in the 12+ range build muscular endurance and size

Many beginner strength training programs say to do 5 sets of 5 repetitions to optimize progress to gain strength.

With a circuit or superset, you do a set of each exercise in an order and you repeat the process.

For example :

  • 20 bodyweight squat

  • 10 push ups

  • 20 walking lunges

  • 10 dumbell rows

  • 15 second plank

  • 30 jumping jacks

  • Repeat all these 5 times to do 5 sets

In traditional strength program, you do a complete set of an exercise, you rest and you do another set of the same exercise and so on.

For example :

  • 10 squat

  • Rest

  • 10 squat

  • Rest

  • 10 squat

  • Rest

  • 10 squat

  • Rest

  • 10 squat

  • Next exercise

If your goal is to be healthy and lose weight, you don’t need to focus on strength, a circuit (superset) is perfect.

This allows you to spend less time at the gym and to make up your high heart rate longer.

If your goal is to have more strength and have more muscle, choose a traditional strength training.

One important thing, your diet corresponds to 80-90 % of your success or failure. The quality of your diet will help you gain strength and lose fat.

When you choose a workout to develop your strength, be sure to increase the difficulty over time. To become stronger, you need to write a plan. This can be to do one more squat, lift 2kg (5lbs) more or do your circuit (superset) 10 seconds faster.

The main goal is to always be better than the last time, this is what ensures the continuity of being stronger and faster.

You can write your own training program or fortunately, there is a lot of excellent beginner program.

Be Limitless Like In The Movie

I read an Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

You’ve heard we use only 10 % of our brain. Do you imagine be able to use 100 % of your brain ?

The book and the movie « Limitless » are based on it and when I watched the movie, I liked it. A lot of people liked because we dream about it for years.

« Limitless » is the Eddie Mora’s story who by chance find pills that give a unlimited power to his brain. He write a book in 4 days, he leans several new langages, he stops smoking, he lose weight and gain muscle. He earns a lot of money in stock market.

This guy transformed his life in video game (he becomes a little bit like James Bond). Is it possible to become more productive without medications ?

How

To become limitless, here is the list of things we should be able to do :

  • Read more often – We can read a book very very quick and remember all the important things.

  • Write a book – We can write a book in few days or weeks instead years.

  • Learn a langage – We can talk a langage in few weeks and we can have a nice conversation with people with that langage is their native langage.

  • Have an excellent physique – We can train in an effective way without spend several hours in the gym to see results.

Maybe you will change some things in this list but I think this list is fun.

The concept is to accomplish more things by spending less time :

  • The ability to retain more information

  • The ability to spend more time to learn

  • Make the time you spend learning to be more effective

  • The ability to learn more different things quickly

First : Exercice

While on a boat with Richard Branson, a man asked « How can I be more productive ? » Keep in mind, Richard is the founder and operator of a 400-company conglomerate. He also has dyslexia and a pretty piss poor academic track record.

  • Increase oxygen flux to the brain

  • Increase brain neurotransmitters

  • Increase neurotrophins that ensure the survival of neurons in the areas responsible for learning, memory and higher thinking

Dr John Rathey who wrote « Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain »

 

and « Driven to Distraction: The Study of Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder »

 

 

give many studies on physical activity and the increase of focus and the increase of the memorization when we study. « Exercices don’t make you more intelligent but they help to optimize the brain to learn ».

It’s with this study that  Charles Hillman discovered that do a few phyical exercices before school can increase memory of 5-10 % among children.

Second : the plan

Malcolm Gladwell says in his book « Outliers »

that people become expert after 10 000 hours of pratice. Warning, you must learn in the good way, otherwise you become an expert by doing it with a bad execution.

It’s mean, if we learn something in the good way, 8 hours per day everydays, we should be an expert in 3 years and a half.

But we don’t have all this time and we don’t want to be the master of the experts.

When we learn a langage, a dance, a martial art or a new musical instrument, we need to identify the key movements or the key words. We need to become proficient in the skill. Don’t worry about the rest of the stuff.

Exemple :

A new instrument

Rather than studying complex compositions of classical music, look current music and studies the patterns.

  • If you learn basic guitar chords, you can learn 80 % of popular music.

  • If you learn basic piano chords, you can quickly learn pop music you always wanted to play.

The goal isn’t to to play in a symphonic orchestra but to learn the basics and take pleasure in making progress.

Third : Environment

Now our brains are ready to learn and we identified the skills or goals we want to have, it’s the time to create an environment for success.

I wrote an article to create your headquarter . We will do the same thing to help us to become limitless.

A : Stop to being multitasking

Often people advise to be able to do several thing in the same time but the only thing this behavior do is to decrease your ability to learn and your productivity. Look the results you have when you work and every 10 minutes you watch a video on YouTube. Every time you change activity before you finish, you become less creative and productive.

Si you want be productive, focus on one thing and finish it. If you learn a new langage, dedicate time only for it and nothing else.

B : Remove all distractions

Often people thing they can do their passion in evening around 21h-22h (9pm-10pm). It’s not true because people are distracted very easy all day. They spend a lot of time on Facebook, Youtube, Gmail, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Then when everybody sleep, it’s at this moment they work on their passion.

Work on your passion immediately after your school/work and you will see the difference. It’s guarantee !

There are apps like « Self Control »  to allow you to not be distract any more

If you want write a book, go in a boring place. Don’t go in a place where there is a lot of cool stuff.

If you want read a book, go in a place where there isn’t TV. Don’t be tempted or cancel you cable (we can watch everything on internet now).

Be Limitless

Here principles :

Exercice. In the morning 10 minutes of bodyweight’s exercice

Plan. You know exactly the 2 skills you need to study and they must be done before 16h (4pm).

Environment. Blocks for a certain time websites that can disctract you. Cancel your cable also.

James Clear’s tip . If you learn a musical instrument or a langage, do it for 5 minutes each day. Create this habit is more important than the « perfect » time.

Use help of others

If you want learn something quickly, you can find some people who learned this skill quickly. Ask to this person how he/she learned this and test it.

Make mistakes the 1st day

You can learn a langage with a grammar book for years but if you don’t speak this langage with people, it’s useless. It’s like deadlift or something else, accepts that failure is a part of the process to be better.

Learn 1-2 new skills

Learn Taekwondo, piano and spanish is too much. Select 1-2 and stay focus on it.

Different kind of music

If you try to read more or be more productive at work, experiment different type of music like rap, electro, classical music, movie soundtrack, etc. At different moment of the day, you need to be in a different state of mind (calm, aggressive), use music to be more productive.

Sleep more

In the movie « Limitless », Eddie Mora lives with the minimal hours of sleep every day. In the reality, it isn’t possible to sleep 4h. A body lacking sleep functions similarly to an intoxicated body  .
