Entrepreneurship And Personal Development

entrepreneurship, entrepreneur, company

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I heard Olivier Roland’s tips and I learned some good stuff.

Entrepreneurship and personal development are 2 related elements. To start, I think it’s necessary to define “personal development” because there is everything and anything. Personal development means self-development. Self-development means getting better. It’s important to clarify this definition because the majority of people (and also the majority of my family members) think that personal development is a scam.

Personal development

personal, development

What I understand is that these people are talking about companies in the personal development industry. And yes, as in all industries, there are scammers but the difference with personal development is that we buy not a product or service but training. And to know if a training is effective it takes several months. But I repeat again in every industry, there are scammers and there are excellent personal development companies. Now, we agree that personal development is about getting better.

Entrepreneurship

entrepreneurship
entrepreneurship word cloud concept isolated on white

For a company, a company must always improve its products or services to satisfy clients. As you can see, the word « improve » is common to both. Entrepreneurship is something that takes you out of the comforts zone and asks you to be bold. It’s something that many people dream of doing but don’t dare to do.

Entrepreneurship is something that involves risks and even significant risks such as no longer having money, going bankrupt, being the laughingstock at by your family or co-workers who have stayed in their jobs and who tell you : « You see, I told you ! », etc.

The problem with entrepreneurship is that we can’t learn to be an entrepreneur at school. I know there are good schools that teach a lot of things, but it’s only in the field that we learn. And with high tech, everything is changing very quickly and schools don’t have time to create a course on a specific topic because on the field it has already changed.

Same common point

When you decide to be an entrepreneur and start a company, you need to improve yourself and learn new things to grow your company. My opinion is that entrepreneurship is a great way to become a better version of yourself.

Entrepreneurship and personal development are linked because of the verb « to improve ». There is also another way to improve yourself in life. We’re experiencing difficult problems that make us move out of our comfort zone and evolve. But the problems always happen by surprise (like my dad today with his early Alzheimer) while the entrepreneurship, it’s us who decide to make this process, it’s intentional. And because it’s intentional, this process allows us to improve yourself, to improve the lives of loved ones and improve the world.

Emotionally Manage Negative Reviews

emotionally, manage, negative reviews, excellent, good, average, poor, worst

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

When we have company, we read customer reviews to improve the products/services. But we have a way of thinking that can hinder the company’s evolution. Here is an example, for a product the are 10 positive reviews and 1 negative review. The problem is that the entrepreneurs will think 1000 times more about the negative review rather than 10 reviews positive.

Bad comment

emotionally, manage, negative reviews

To change this way of thinkging, it’s necessary to understand that this is part of human nature. We have been educated by evolution to focus more on negative things than positive things. And yes, our ancestors lived in an unstable environment during the vast majority of the existence of the human being. Here are some examples :

  1. Our ancestors were very attentive to the elements that were partially negative. They could be very happy, have a great day but they had to pay attention to the powerful animals that could, by surprise, kill them.
  2. Our ancestors had to pay attention to the disputes that had in the village because these disputes could deteriorate the village’s stability. This can result in creating friction that undermines trust in terms of collaboration for survival.
  3. Our ancestors were never satisfied with their situation and this motivated them to improve their lifestyle through science.

Solution

emotionally, manage, negative reviews, positive

As you’ve seen, this is a way of thinking that we have in human nature and there are some tips to avoid being obsessed with these negative reviews. I propose 3 solutions :

  • Ignore them. The more negative reviews you see, the more you’ll be desensitized to that. It’s not very complicated because if your company is working well, you have few negative reviews.
  • Delegate the management of reviews to a member in your company. This allows you to avoid being on the front line in the emotional impact to be less affected. It’s true, this solution have a problem. It creates distance between the entrepreneur and the customers feedbacks. It’s for this reason that it’s recommended to set up a procedure for the member who handles the reviews saying : « From now on, it’s you who manages the reviews. The thing I would like you to do is that you only transfer negative constructive reviews to me ». Negative constructive reviews are the criticisms where you see the urge to help.
  • Create an email address only for positive reviews. For example, you can name this email : « positivereviews@yourCompanyName.com » and tell to the person who manages the reviews that each time he/she receive a positive reviews, he/she send it to this email. You can also tell to this person to make a screenshot of a positive review from social media and send it to this email.

With this email address, you create the email of happiness. This will be useful for moments of demotivation and doubt. If, for example, there is an negative reviews that makes you feel bad and you think about it several hours later, you can log on this email, read positive reviews and realize that you’re doing a good job. It’s really a special feeling to know that you’re changing the lives of many people. It’s really fantastic and it allows you to relativize.

It’s possible to make a combination of the 3 solutions. It means, you force yourself to read the negative reviews to desensitize you ; you delelgate part of the process to manage the reviews ; you create a magical email as a psychological support.

These solutions allow you to put things in their place so that you don’t get overwhelmed by negative emotions.

It’s possible that you know of other methods to handle negative reviews, if it’s true, share your method with us in the comments section.

MRSA Infections

mrsa infection anatomy

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE. With my training, I’m interested in biomechanics to avoid injuries. I read « Sport Medicine Media Guide » and I learned some good stuff.

Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureaus), or MRSA, is a bacterium that creates skin infections and other types of infections. The first time that MRSA was seen in US hospitals during the 1970s. Recently, there is a new strain of MRSA know as Community Acquired Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or CA-MRSA, has left hospitals and began to spread in the community.

This is the strain that is prevalent among athletes. The difference between CA-MRSA and Healthcare-Associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) is in their effects. CA-MRSA usually creates skin infections while HA-MRSA causes bloodstream, urinary tract and surgical site infections. This make CA-MRSA less dangerous than HA-MRSA. Another difference is that CA-MRSA is more vulnerable to antimicrobial.

Symptoms

Signs of infections are :

  • Redness

  • Warmth, Swelling

  • Pus

  • Pain at sites where there are skin wounds

  • Abrasions or cuts

MRSA has the ability to spread to other organs in the body and when that happens, symptoms are more severe.

At this stage, symptoms are :

  • Fever

  • Chills

  • Low blood pressure

  • Joint pain

  • Severe headaches

  • Shortness of breath

  • An extensive rash over the body

These more advanced systemic symptoms require immediate medical attention.

Treatment

The 1st choice for treating MRSA skin infection is to use an antibiotic that has been created to kill bacteria with mild side effects. Most early infections with no widespread symptoms can be treated with oral antibiotics. Because of the nature of this decease and antibiotic options, many patients think they’re « cured » after only a few doses and decide by themselves to stop taking the prescribed drugs. However, MRSA is able to re-infect the patient and become resistant to antibiotics used previously.

For moderate to severe infections, treatment may be with intravenous antibiotics.

These infections associated with deep abscesses or boils require open surgical drainage in addition to antibiotic therapy. Most infections resolve in 7-10 days with an adequate treatment despite the fact that a deep abscess can take up to 4 weeks to eradicate the infection by resolving the abscess cavity.

Early identification and treatment of MRSA infections decrease the amount of playing time lost and decrease the chance that the infection will become severe. Skin may be protected by protective clothing or gear designed to prevent skin abrasions or cuts.

Prevention

mrsa infection anatomy

It’s necessary that athletes have good personal hygiene but it must be added that athletes and visitors to athletes facilities must also keep their hands clean by washing them often with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub. The minimum is to have clean hands before and after sports and activities. For example when we use weight training equipment that is shared by all gym members, it’s important to have clean hands after using toilette or when someone is injured taking care the wounds (including changing bandage).

Ordinary and antimicrobial soaps are effective for washing hands. It’s noted that liquid soap is a better option because it’s not possible to share this type of soap compared to bar soap. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contain at least 60% alcohol are the perfect choice.

Athletes should shower immediately after exercise and shouldn’t share soap and towels. Washing all uniforms and clothes after each use is important. Athlete should avoid sharing items that are in contact with the skin and avoid sharing personal items as they contact the skin. Fortunately, most surfaces don’t provoke a risk of spreading staph and MRSA.

Athletes who have had MRSA

Several high school, college and professional athletes have contracted MRSA infections. There have already been epidemics among athletes on the same team. A study published in « The New England Journal of Medicine » shows an infection MRSA among St. Louis Rams professional football franchise (USA) athletes. During a single season, MRSA infections were found among 5 of 58 Rams athletes (9 percents) that was tested. All infections developed on areas of the body that are common places for turf injury.

Stats

  • Today, MRSA accounts for about 50-70% of the S. Aureus infections that are present in healthcare facilities across the world.

  • Statistics fro the Kaiser foundation in 2007 indicated that approximately 1.2 million hospitalized patients contract MRSA infections.

  • Serious MRSA infection is still predominantly related to exposure in the healthcare setting, where approximately 85 percent of all serious MRSA infections occur.

  • Fortunately, in children under 18 years old, mortality rates are much lower (1%), even though the number of hospitalized children with MRSA has almost tripled since 2002.

Look For Anomalies

anomaly

I have just enrolled in a Data Science course on Udemy  and I learned good stuff.

We’ll learn how to duplicate a bar char to create a new A/B test. We’ll create several A/B test to look for anomalies.

But before that, we’ll name the sheet. Right-click on the tabe and select « Rename Sheet ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Rename the sheet « Gender ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Now right-click on the « Gender » tab and select « Duplicate ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Rename this new tab « Country ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

We’ll do an A/B test with the countries and we’ll reuse everything we did with the A/B test « Gender » to save time.

As you can see « Gender » is in « Columns ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

To use this A/B test with a variable other than « Gender », move the variable you want on top of « Gender » in « Columns ».

Go, go ! There is « Geography » in « Dimensions », takes « Geography » and puts it on « Gender ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Boom with 1 click we have our A/B test for countries.

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

We have the percentage of clients who left and stayed in the bank for each country (Germany, Spain and France).

In this A/B test we can see that in Germany, many clients left the bank with a rate of 32%. For Spain and France, the rate of clients who left the bank is below the average departure rate (20%), 17% for Spain and 16% for France.

Already, we have interesting insigns. We can find out if in Germany there is a new aggressive competitor with more interesting offers or if there is a new law unfavorable to the bank’s offers that has been voted. It’s necessary to do reseach in Germany to find the reason for this high rate of departure.

You have seen, usually an A/B test has 2 categories but in our case, there are 3 categories. We could call it an A/B/C test but it’s a bit bizarre. When there are more than 2 categories, we call it a classification test.

In this article, I will continue to use the term A/B test but remember the term classification test for the next time.

Let’s do another A/B test quickly.

Duplicate this A/B test by right-clicking on the « Country » tab and selecting « Duplicate ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

This time we will study the variable « Has Cr Card ». This variable is « 1 » if the client has a credit card and « 0 » if the client doesn’t have a credit card.

You saw ? This variable is a categorical variable because it is binary « 1 » and « 0 » but it is in « Measures ». Since this variable is categorical, it should be in « Dimensions » so we will move the variable « Has Cr Card » from « Measure » to « Dimensions ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Now that it’s done, move « Has Cr Card » over « Geography » in « Columns ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

It’s cool, we have a new A/B test for credit cards. What we can observe in this A/B test is that there is not a big difference between the departure rate of clients who don’t have a credit card (21%) and the departure rate of clients who have a credit card (20%).

It’s time to create aliases for this A/B test. Right-click on « Has Cr Card » and select « Alias…. ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

To start, « 0 » means that the clients don’t have a credit card so in « Value », you write « No ». « 1 » means that the clients has a credit card so in « Value », you write « Yes ». Then you click on the « OK » button.

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

That’s it, the bar chart is easy to read now. We understand that among clients who don’t have a credit card, 21% left the bank and among clients who have a credit card, 20% left the bank. We can conclude that having or not having a credit card doesn’t have a significant impact on the decision to leave the bank.

It’s time to rename this tab. Right-click on the « Sheet4 » tab and select « Rename Sheet ». Name the sheet « HasCreditCard ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Let’s go, let’s do another A/B test with another variable. Let’s look at « Measure » and study the variable « IsActiveMember ».

The variable « IsActiveMember » is « 1 », if the client is active and « 0 » it the client is inactive. It’s necessary to detail the definition of IS ACTIVE. IS ACTIVE depends on the criteria of the bank. For example, it could be : « Did the client log in at least once to their bank account last month ? » or « Has the client made at least one banking transaction last month ? », etc.

As you can see, the variable « IsActiveMember » is a categorical variable (binary 1 and 0) so it’s a variable to move to « Dimensions ».

Here’s another way to move a variable from « Measures » to « Dimensions ». Right-click on « IsActiveMember » and select « Convert to Dimensions ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Perfect, the variable « IsActiveMember » is in « Dimensions ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

We will duplicate our « HasCreditCard » sheet. Right-click on « HasCreditCard » tab and select « Duplicate ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Renamce this tab « IsActiveMember ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Since we have diplucted what we did with « HasCreditCard », we simply need to take the variable « IsActiveMember » from « Dimensions » and more that over « HasCrCard » in « Columns ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Let’s create aliases to make reading this bar chart easier. Right-click on « IsActiveMember » and select « Aliases… ».

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

For « 0 », we put « No » because the client is not active and for « 1 », we put « Yes » because the client is active. Click on the « OK » button.

tableau a/b test tableau dataset anomalies

Here is what we can see with this A/B test « IsActiveMember ». Among inactive clients, 27% left the bank. Among active clients, 14% left the bank. This show is that clients who are not active are more likely to leave the bank than active clients.

Indeed, a client who is active means that he/she uses his/her bank account and products of the bank so an active client is satisfied with the bank. It’s possible that some clients leave the bank because of external factors such as a competitor, new regulations or elements of the private life of the client.

It’s cool, we created 4 A/B tests in a few minutes.

  1. An A/B test « Gender » that allowed us to see that women were more likely to leave the bank.

  2. An A/B test « Country » that allowed us to see that it is in Germany that clients are most likely to leave the bank.

  3. An A/B test « HasCreditCard » which allowed us to see that having or not having a credit card didn’t have a significant impact on the descision to leave the bank.

  4. An A/B test « IsActive Member » allows us to see that client who aren’t active are more likely to leave the bank .

I will leave you a homework. You’ll do an A/B test with the variable « Number Of Product » which is still a category variable. The variable « Number Of Products » indicates the number of product that the client has in the bank. Add aliases to make reading the bar chart easier.

I trust you I’ll give you the answer in th next article,

Dataset For Data Mining

dataset data mining

I have just enrolled in a Data Science course on Udemy  and I learned good stuff.

To have the dataset to do Data Mining, you need to go to the superdatascience website . In « Part.1 Visualization », you see the section « How to use Tableau for Data Mining ». Click on « Churn Modeling » to download the file.

dataset data mining

Once you have downloaded the file, move the file to the directory you created for the course. In this directory, create a new directory (unless you already do it) named « 2.Chunk investigation ».

dataset data mining

dataset data mining

Open this fiel with Excel or with other spreadsheet software.

dataset data mining

Know that we use this dataset for the visualization part but we will also use this dataset for the modeling part.

Let’s analyze the data of this dataset.

This dataset is quite large because it contains 10 000 lines and a few columns. This is the list of a bank’s client. The client information is :

  • Customer id (login)

  • Surname (last name)

  • Credit score ( is the measure that indicates the client’s ability to borrow)

  • Geography (client’s country)

  • Gender (male or female)

  • Age

  • Tenure -(the number of years the client is in the bank)

  • Balance (balance of the client’s bank account)

  • NumOfProduct (number of product that the client has in the bank – credit card, contract, account)

  • HasCrCard (does the client have a credit card ?)

  • IsActiveMember (did the client use his/her credit card during the last month ?)

  • EstimatedSalary (the bank’s estimate of the client’s annual salary)

  • Exited (did the client leave the bank ?)

Now, I will explain the context related to this dataset. This bank has branches in several countries like Germany, Spain and France. This bank noticed that lately there were many clients who left the bank. The bank has a report called « churn rate » which is the customers rate who leave the bank and for a few months the « churn rate » is really higher than usual. It’s for this reason that the bank needs a data scientist (you) to find the problem and propose solutions.

This dataset is a small sample of clients bank. These are 10 000 randomly selected client.

The column « Exited » is a column that didn’t exist before. This column has created when the bank realized that there was an abnormal number of client who were leaving the bank.

dataset data mining

Then the bank observed these clients for 6 months to see which client left the bank.

dataset data mining

In the « Exited » column, the number « 1 » means that the client left the bank and the number « 0 » means that the client stayed in the bank.

To analyze this dataset, you’ll need to do A/B Tests. For exemple, a classic A/B Test is to see if women are more likely to left the bank than men. That’s means, see the number of men who left the bank, see the number of women who left the bank and then normalize by the total number of clients. It’s important to normalize the number of clients because there are not the same proportions of women as men. Next, based on the last column « Exited », you’ll find out if it’s the men or women who are likely to left the bank.

Once you have relevant results, you can show your report to the bank. And with this report you should be able to propose solutions to the bank. For example, if the report says that women leave the bank in bulk, it’s because there is a problem and it’s necessary to see whether the bank is offering women something right. Or it’s possible that another bank offers a much more attractive offer for women or something else.

You will learn how to investigate in the dataset and find answer through client information with A/B tests.

Deadlift Correctly (Part 2)

deadlift

I you didn’t read the Part 1, click here

I read an Nerd Fitness article  and I learned good stuff.

Setup

As you know, there are several versions of deadlift that can match your training goals or your body type but the conventional deadlift is great for starting to learn the basics.

Attention : It’s important to do 1-2 sets warm-up with the barbell without weights. As with squat, this warm-up allows you to prepare joints and muscles.

  • Adds weights and uses collars for safety

If you’re a beginner, only use 2-26-4.6kg (5-10lbs) plates to make easy to adjust the weights on the barbell. When you have better understood the movement and how your body reacts you can use plates of 20kg (45lbs).

  • Stand with your feet at the width of your hips

The spacing of your feet is about 20-30cm (8-12 inches) and your toes are slightly outside about 5-10 degrees.

  • Look at the ground

Place your feet under the barbell so that the barbell almost touches your ankles. The barbell must be on the node of your laces

  • Without moving the barbell or your hips

Lean forward to take the barbell. Your legs are slightly bent. Your hands should be slightly outside your legs without touching them.

  • Hold the barbell

Move your hips down so your shins touch the barbell. Stop moving your hips when your shins touch the barbell. Squeeze your torso and keep your back straight to have your back in a neutral position.

  • Your back in a neutral position

Your back shouldn’t be rounded or hyper extends. If you feel like you don’t have your back in a neutral position, don’t hesitate to ask a friend or a gym’s member to make a video of you with a smartphone while you’re doing deadlift. This will allow you to correct your technique.

In addition to your spine, uses the upper back’s muscles to help to lift your chest up (swagger).

Your shoulders should be slightly in front of the barbell and your arms should be straight and perpendicular to the ground.

As each person has unique body, the person next to you will have a different starting position than you and this is normal. Think about it : if a person has long arms, will this person have exactly the same position as a person with short arms ? No.

Deadlift

deadlift movement

  • Ready to lift

Be focus and squeeze all your body’s muscles

  • Deep breathing

Take a deep breath and keep your chest up with all your body squeezed ant put all the weight on your heels and on the ball of your feet.

Imagine driving your feet through the ground.

Here are the important points in this part of the movement :

  1. All the weight must be on your heels and on the ball of your feet. During the movement, you should be able to move your toes.

  2. Your whole body moves slowly at the same speed. Your butt shouldn’t get up faster than your torso.

  3. Be focused on directing your torso and putting the weight on your heels.

  4. Your arms should stay straight during the movement. Your arms only serve to hold the barbell, not pull it.

  5. The barbell stay in contact with all your body. The barbell is a few millimeters from your legs while your lift it. Powerlifters put socks on their shins and chalk or baby powder on their thighs to avoid cuts and scratches The barbell’s trajectory during the movement is a vertical straight line.

  6. Squeeze your glutes. When the barbell goes over your knees, squeeze your glutes to move your hips forward.

  7. When you stand, open your chest as if you’re proud (like a king/queen). Keep your spine in a neutral position (straight back) and all your body tight.

To lower the barbell

As with lifting the barbell, all your body needs to move at the same time.

Your body is always contracted, unlocks your hips and knees and lower the barbell by controlling the movement slowly.

If you unlocks your knees first, you’ll do weird movements that will force you to round your lower back.

deadlift low back rounded

Keep your body contracted until the barbell touches the ground. The majority of deadlift injuries appear during the descends of the barbell. People are so pleased to have lifted a heavy weight that they relax their bodies and lower the barbell with poor technique. It’s important to control movement with your contracted body throughout exercise.

Note

In deadlift the most risky moment is the eccentric part (descending the barbell). This is the part that will give you the most DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).

That’s why several personal trainers advise their athletes to throw the barbell on the ground, especially for athletes who must be at 100 % for a competition in a few days.

Deadlift Correctly (Part 1)

deadlift

I read an Nerd Fitness article  and I learned good stuff.

I see there are many people who are avoiding deadlift because they are afraid of getting hurt. It’s funny, it’s like squat.

Doing deadlift with good a technique is excellent for health, it allow your to have stronger joints and a stronger posterior chain.

All exercises can be dangerous when they don’t do with the proper technique, which is why it’s important to seriously study each exercise.

Why

why

In workout programs, you can find the deadlift in the day of legs of back. This can be disturbing but the truth is the deadlift is a polyarticular exercise.

The deadlift (polyarticular exercise) works several different muscle’s group :

  • Your hands, your forearms, your arms to keep the barbell in the right position and the barbell is stable during the movement.

  • Your shoulder and trapezius help to hold the weight and keep it stable.

  • Your back and core help to keep your body tight and stable so that your spine is safe.

  • Your posterior chain  and your legs act as lever to lift the weight.

What is interesting is that deadlift is a basic human movement like the squat. It’s a « functional » movement that we do every day to take an object on the ground. Lifting a chair or taking a bag on the floor is deadlift.

Training yourself to do deadlift with a good technique at the gym, will allow you to do these daily tasks by decreasing the risk of injury. I imagine you’ve seen a person hurt his/her back by lifting something off the floor. It happened because the technique was bad.

Let things be clear, everyone needs to do deadlift. Look at that grandmother

grandmother deadlift

Also, deadlift is the purest way to measure the strength. You lift or you can’t. Sometimes with gym’s members, we do a deadlift party, it’s fun.

Choose

Attention : if you have spinal injuries, go see your doctor before starting

The origin of the word « deadlift » is : you lift dead weight (motionless) of the ground.

In short, you take a barbel with weight and you get up with the barbell in your hands until your shoulders, hips and knees locked. Your arms should be straight during the whole movement and when you’re standing, the barbell is at the level of your hips.

Here are the different type of deadlift most common :

Conventional Deadlift

conventional deadlift

Your hands are at your hips width, outside of your feet.

Sumo Deadlift

sumo deadlift

You have a wide position with your hands inside of your feet.

Hex or Trap Bar Bar Deadlift

hex trap bar bar deadlift

You need to use a special bar. In this way, you make the movement with another biomechanics.

Snatch Grip Deadlift

snatch grip deadlift

You use a wide grip like to do a Snatch.

Straight Leg Deadlift, Stiff Legged Deadlift, Romanian Deadlift

Many people are troubled by these variants. Here is an excellent article by Bret Contreras to see it in detail. Click here .

Deficit Deadlift, Rack Pulls

deficit deadlift rack pulls deadlift

These accessory movements allow you to increase or decrease the range of motion.

Dumbbell Deadlift Variations

dumbbell deadlift

You can do this when you don’t have access to a barbell and weights or as accessory movement.

In this article, I refer mainly to conventional deadlift.

Now, let’s talk about equipment :

Flat shoes

Converse Chuck Taylor Classic  are good (this is what I use). There’s also Vibrams, you can do in socks or with Powerliters shoes.

Chalk

chalk

This is optional but it can help you to not let your hands slip when you lift very heavy weights.

Deadlift can be taught in 1-2 sentences but there are complexities at different steps of the movement that you should know to avoid injury. I will develop this in the next parts.
