Protein supplements

In training program, there is always a nutritional plan because to build muscle lifting weights isn’t enough. The good quantity of protein in relation to your bodyweight is an extremely important element. But as you’ve noticed, it’s difficult to eat enough protein without eating too much fat. Protein supplements are a solution.

Protein supplements can increase protein intake without increasing the fat’s amount in your body and ease protein intake several times a day. Eating several times a day is essential for a bodybuilder and having tips to make it easier is appreciated.

There is an incredible variety of protein supplements and they really have a dessert’s taste. What’s interesting is that they’re more and more rich in nutrients with vitamins and minerals and in macronutrients with proteins and carbohydrates. Find a protein supplement that meets your nutritional needs and tastes can be a help in your nutritional plan.

As there is an incredible amount of protein supplement, there are several things to check to help you choose. First, reading the label is important because there are some that really contain too much carbohydrate. It’s good to know that carbohydrate improve the conversion of food protein to muscle protein but an excess of carbohydrate creates an excess of calories which prevents your body from easily burning fat. Therefore, it’s necessary to count the number of carbohydrate on the label.

Second, protein supplement that is consumed pure, without a meal or without carbohydrate, isn’t metabolized effectively. Research shows that for the protein to be used for protein synthesis, it must be consumed with calories, especially those from carbohydrate. Otherwise protein and used as energy production.

On the other hand, if you’re on a low carbohydrate diet and you increase your protein intake for energy (to compensate the lack of carbohydrates), it may be a good idea.

Third, the protein source of protein supplements comes from 3 foods :

  • Milk protein (whey, milk protein concentrate and caseinate)
  • Egg protein
  • Soy protein

All these proteins are of high quality. For the moment, no scientific studies show that there is one protein better than the other. Protein supplements made from milk and eggs are the most popular among bodybuilders. Soy protein has a specificity because it can reduce serum cholesterol rate in some people. This may be advisable for people with cholesterol problems but it’s careful because it’s possible to find a lot of GMOs in soy.

It’s important to remember that protein supplements aren’t created to be the only source of food protein. A balanced diet consisting of whole foods is essential for a healthy diet and building muscles.

Start A Smart Company

What’s up !!! This is THE stephane ANDRE. I watch an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned some good stuff.

To create a company, most people advise to leave school or job to be 100% focused on creating the company. I advise you to start your business part-time and continue your school or job. An excellent method for this is « Lean Startup » . The principle of Lean Startup is to put on the market as fast as possible your product/service at minimum viable.

2 different methods

Let’s take a closer look at what most people do. A person has an idea to start a company, so this person does a market research to minimize the risks. Then this person will seek financing with bank loans after calculating the needs of the business. These business needs based on a 3-years business plan that is extremely theoretical and hypothetical. You should know that in 99% of cases, as soon as the company is open and prospects are in contact with the products/services, these business plans have no connection with the reality of the field.

The problem with this method is that this person works for 1 year to create a product/service and when it’s available, this person realize that everyone doesn’t care. When the product/service isn’t selling, the stress rises enormously and you have to find a way to pay back people who lend money to your company.

Lean startup

With the Lean Startup’s method, when a person has a product/service idea, the principle is to find the minimum basic function of that which would interest the audience and the prospects who would be willing to buy. Then you have to do a test as soon as possible on the market. There is something very important that Michael Masterson said : « Before your business make its first sale, it’s nothing more than a set of unproven ideas that you are spending money on ».

That is why it’s necessary to set up a field test in the most real conditions possible with the most minimal version of your product/service.

Here is an example with someone who wants to buy a parking lot to rent it :

  • With the classic method, this person bought a random parking lot hoping to have many prospects interested in renting it.

  • With the Lean Startup method, this person will find an interesting parking lot to buy. Then this person will post an ad in an ads posting site and on social media and will wait to see if there are peope interested in renting it. If people call this person to say : « I’m interested in having your parking lot, I’d like to rent it », in this case this person will buy the parking lot. If nobody is interested in the parking lot, this person will not buy it.

There are several other methods like this to test. In my case, it’s my blog to build my brand and until today, I’m doing it part-time. Here is a 3-part article in the power of a blog ( here  ).

Create my blog allowed me to :

  1. To know if I could find and keep my rhythm to write articles

  2. To know if I could share interesting things to create an audience

  3. To know if I could possibly monitize this blog with this audience

Once you have the idea, you need to test it as soon as possible to see what is happening on the field to collect feedback from the first customers and to know if you have an interesting business model or not. This test is excellent for eliminating a lot of uncertainty.

The cool thing about the Lean Startup method is that you’ll really start investing a lot of time, money and energy when you have your first customers who will help you improve your product/service.

Let things be clear, Lean Startup isn’t a magic formula, it’s necessary to act and start the process again, until you have a product/service that interest people.

the past

All that we do in the past is done. The past passes and we can’t change anything. No, no, not like in the movie « Back to the future », no.

All that we do in the past shouldn’t be forgotten so that we can learn. Learn by asking the question : « What didn’t go well ? ». Our past created by our choices and our habits.

For good times, we need to keep it as an emotional memory without living in the past.

For bad times, we need to keep this for not doing the same thing in the future.

Future

the future

The future isn’t yet here. We worry for it destroys hope.

We have hope in the future. The hope is an excellent good thing, the best thing.

We can plan our future and always adjust our plans when necessary.

Tomorrow is a new day. If today is a bad day, tomorrow will be better.

Tomorrow isn’t guarantee. Death can take good people.

Present

the present

Today, a new lifestyle can begin until death. When we choose, choose wisely.

We can do something that usually we don’t do. A new experience makes us become more mature.

We may not do something unhealthy that we do everyday. Change is a good thing.

We can take a better decision than yesterday in our life, our love, our health and our finance.

We can be better than yesterday.

We can do something today instead of tomorrow.

Today is the only thing we can control.

The Confusion Of Whey Protein

I watched a JamCore DZ’s video  and there is good stuff.

People have a lot of questions about whey and they become crazy. Companies take advantage of this confusion to make money without educating people.

People who are misinformed think whey help to lose weight. It’s for this reason I’m writing this article to explains how work whey. The notion that whey makes you lose weight or make you shredded is not always the case because you have to follow a very special protocol.

There is 3 types of whey : concentrate, isolate and hydrolizate.

Look this metaphor :

  • Concentrate = Mini Cooper

  • Isolate = BMW

  • Hydrolizate = Porsche

 

These 3 categories mean the ability to assimilate, save and rebuilt your muscle tissue These 3 categories have the same goal, the only difference is the speed of protein’s absorption by your body. It doesn’t mean the concentrate is bad. In each category there is good and bad quality.

Whey

The whey is extracted from cow milk.

Concentrate whey has a rate of protein of 60-80 %. The rate of carbohydrate is high because of of the sugar that has in the form of lactose.

Isolate whey is extracted from concentrate whey by a cold process to not denature the whey. The isolate has a higher rate of protein, less carbohydrate and the same rate of lipid than the concentrate. But there is not lactose. In the isolate whey there is not lactose then if you have flatulence, the quality is bad.

Hydrolizate whey is extracted form isolate. The hydrolizate whey is predigested by a a microfiltration process. This process make absorbing easier for your body. The rate of protein is higher than the isolate.

The isolate and the hydrolizate are more BCAA than the concentrate. The concentrate whey is the slowest to go to muscles to rebuild them.

All this works if you do the good things

Which whey take ?

All depend of your budget. There is rich and poor people. But what is interesting is that you can be poor, buy concentrate whey and gain muscle and you can be rich, buy hydrolizate whey and do stupid stuff and don’t gain muscle. The type of whey doesn’t matter because it’s the person who is organized, disciplined and who have goals that will succeed.

When take whey ?

It’s a snack between breakfast and lunch then between lunch and diner. You can take it after training, it’s better to take an isolate or hydrolizate whey because they’re rich in BCAA (amino acids) to rebuild your muscles faster. You can take also a simple source of sugar like vitargo that composed of maltodextrin and fructose.

Now, if you’re drying out, you can just take isolate or hydrolized to gain muscle.

When can take concentrate , isolate or hydrolizate whey (it depends on your budget) with a good source of carbohydrate (oatmeal and a banana) and a good source of lipid (peanuts or almonds butter). These good source of carbohydrate and lipid are better than mass gainer you can buy in shops. These mass gainers are a lots of crap and sugar in there. Don’t buy mass gainers, it’s expensive and bad for your body.

The notion of whey can allow you to lose weight by magic is a scam ! You have to do things right, it means follow a nutritional plan and a workout plan.

Whey is more absorbed by you body with water. Take it with cow milk is less assimilate, it’s a little bit better with coconut milk and almond milk. But the best way for your body to absorb completely the whey is water.

How much gram per meal ?

For men is around between 30-40gr of protein or whey per meal. It’s around 3gr of leucine that is responsible for the synthesis of protein and also responsible to rebuild muscles. Remember 3gr of leucine is important for the whey’s quality you buy. For women, it’s 20-25gr per meal.

How to know if it’s good quality ?

It’s impossible to buy 1kg (2.2lbs) of high quality whey at prices offered by brands. Because most of companies to sell whey at these prices (high quality whey is very expensive), they do what we called « spiking ». It’s increase rates by playing with amino acids to pass tests and sell more. The 2 countries in the world with the best whey quality are Japan and New-Zealand because their laws are very strict.

Second

You need to check there is 3gr of leucine. The leucine must be on the nutrition facts label or nutrition information panel on the whey’s pack. If it’s less than 2.7gr, don’t take this whey, it’s crap. Why ? Because normally you must have more than 2.7gr of leucine per dose (for men 30-40gr of whey = 3gr of leucine). If there is not the dose of leucine on the nutrition facts label, don’t buy it.

Per dose of whey, you should have 25 % of BCAA and the leucine should be at 11 % of the 25 % of BCAA (around 3gr of leucine).

The source of milk should be without hormones. It means the cow should be fed with grass.

The treatment of protein should be at low temperature as for the isolate so as not to be denatured. If it’s denatured, the quality decreases.

There is not artificial sweeteners and artificial flavor. The less ingredients in the whey, better is the quality.

I will not advise you a brand. You’re a smart person, now with these information, you’re able to select yourself your whey.

Searching, studying, have a great physique is not only the body, it’s also the mind because it’s the mind that make the body even more.

Sometimes We Are Struggling To Be Healthy

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

Doing things we know we need to do may sometimes seem impossible. We know we can have a better lifestyle to « stay motivated » and « get focused ». And yet when we work on a long-term project, we have the impression of always starting from scratch.

We doubt : « What’s happening ? Why I can’t do it anymore ? »

  • I know I need to eat better

    But after cook healthy meals for one week, I don’t have the time to cook and I buy pre-prepared meals.

  • I know I need to train more often

    But after train for one week, I’m less motivated, I see no result and I’m demoralised.

  • I still have a good physique

    But I try to have an athletic body like the pros but it’s always frustrating.

I already tought about it and I think you too. Change this situation can be useless if we aren’t well prepared. It’s like a video game when you will fight a Boss with 50 % of your life without potions.

Boost your inventary

It’s real, I advise to everybody to prepare their meal of the day in advance (like my Instagram’s video) to have health meals. And I advise you to eat 1-3 time per week in a restaurant (see tips for eating at restaurant and staying healthy).

There is the perfect plan and the realistic plan. We like prepared perfect plans to reach our goals but in reality, it’s harder. An imperfect plan executed is better than a perfect plan poorly executed.

  • Potion

    You can go in a restaurant to eat a big plate of rice, protein and vegetables. It’s quickly prepared, it’s not expensive and you have healthy foods in your body.

  • Improve weapons

    Find a blender with a good motor to do fruits/vegetables shakes. It’s perfect for a snack at 16h (4pm).

  • Improve your armor

    Buy a rice cooker to save your time in evening.

These elements help you to reach more easily your daily calories goal. I have never plan my meals for all the year, I plan what I will eat each week (when I go to the supermarket) and each day, I do my best to eat as healthily as possible despite the unexpected. It’s this imperfect plan that I use and I see results ! If I had continued to follow my perfect plan, I think I would have given up because of my environment.

Now, when I see old friends they’re surprised to see how my physique changed better and there are some who jealous me (but there is less brawl than before, it’s cool).

In a video game, when you will fight against a new Boss, you will have the maximum of potions to have the maximum chance of winning. When you attack a new problem in your life, adjust your priorities to build a new habit or miss your attempt to be healthy.

Mercenary and strategy guide

In a video game, you can have mercenaries to help you to fight the Boss and you can unlocked strategies can help you have the advantage.

You used strategy guides or tutarial video to help you to beat a difficult Boss. Some people say it’s « cheat » but it’s up to you to follow instructions and execute them properly for it to work.

In life, you can also have mercernaries and strategy guides. You can find tutorials like « How to do squat properly » or « How to create your workout plan » but often it’s our lack of knowledge or lack of confidence that keeps us from succeeding.

Have a great mercenary (personal trainer) to reach your goal who all times yelling, prodding, educating and helping you to have results. Just have somebody to help you for one session or for one week can do the difference between long term success and long term frustration.

That means you need to have a mercenary (personal trainer) forever ? No, but it’s good to have the opportunity for several months to learn from a great mercenary (personal trainer) to follow the patterns set out in a strategy guide to have confidence to attack the Boss without being assisted.

A victory is a victory

When you try to fight the Boss, all that matter is that you have 1 % of life when the Boss has 0 %. This can be an ungly fight and even you used 10 potions, this victory is important to continue. It’s for this reason you buy potions and upgrade your armor. This is what make the difference between victory and throw your controller against the wall.

The life is the same and it’s important to organize priorities to have success :

  • Discuss with your family about the financial investment to have a better health (gym, mercenary)

  • Save money to by health product and have tools necessary to avoid to eat at restaurants everydays.

Organize your priorities to reach your fitness goals and others aspects of your life, right now. There are Bosses that you fight with 50 % of your life ?

  • Hard to meditate everydays ?

    Use calm.com  and follow the 2 minutes of meditation guide (strategy guide).

  • Hard to start yoga ?

    Subscibe to a yoga class for a month to learn movements. By this way, you will have more confident to do yoga at home (mercenary).

  • Hard to eat better ?

    Seek in Craiglist or another website that do the same thing and find a Chef to prepare meals for you at a reasonable price for a month (improve inventory)

  • Hard to walk more ?

    Buy a Fitbit and train you body to walk 10 000 step each day until you can do it without technological assistance (improve armor).

  • Hard to do squat and deadlift properly ?

    Hire a personal trainer to learn properly to do squat and deadlift. Contact this personal trainer one month later to check your technique (mercenary).

  • Hard to learn a new language ?

    Use iTalki.com  and speak with a native speaker and in exchange you learn to him/her your native language. (improve your group).

Yes, it’s possible. You will try several times and you will do several mistakes to improve yourself and it will be difficult. The most important is to know why you do all these things and not the others. It’s to improve your lifestyle and you’re the only person to do it.

Be Limitless Like In The Movie

I read an Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

You’ve heard we use only 10 % of our brain. Do you imagine be able to use 100 % of your brain ?

The book and the movie « Limitless » are based on it and when I watched the movie, I liked it. A lot of people liked because we dream about it for years.

« Limitless » is the Eddie Mora’s story who by chance find pills that give a unlimited power to his brain. He write a book in 4 days, he leans several new langages, he stops smoking, he lose weight and gain muscle. He earns a lot of money in stock market.

This guy transformed his life in video game (he becomes a little bit like James Bond). Is it possible to become more productive without medications ?

How

To become limitless, here is the list of things we should be able to do :

  • Read more often – We can read a book very very quick and remember all the important things.

  • Write a book – We can write a book in few days or weeks instead years.

  • Learn a langage – We can talk a langage in few weeks and we can have a nice conversation with people with that langage is their native langage.

  • Have an excellent physique – We can train in an effective way without spend several hours in the gym to see results.

Maybe you will change some things in this list but I think this list is fun.

The concept is to accomplish more things by spending less time :

  • The ability to retain more information

  • The ability to spend more time to learn

  • Make the time you spend learning to be more effective

  • The ability to learn more different things quickly

First : Exercice

  • Increase neurotrophins that ensure the survival of neurons in the areas responsible for learning, memory and higher thinking

and « Driven to Distraction: The Study of Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder »

 

 

give many studies on physical activity and the increase of focus and the increase of the memorization when we study. « Exercices don’t make you more intelligent but they help to optimize the brain to learn ».

It’s with this study that  Charles Hillman discovered that do a few phyical exercices before school can increase memory of 5-10 % among children.

Second : the plan

Malcolm Gladwell says in his book « Outliers »

that people become expert after 10 000 hours of pratice. Warning, you must learn in the good way, otherwise you become an expert by doing it with a bad execution.

It’s mean, if we learn something in the good way, 8 hours per day everydays, we should be an expert in 3 years and a half.

But we don’t have all this time and we don’t want to be the master of the experts.

When we learn a langage, a dance, a martial art or a new musical instrument, we need to identify the key movements or the key words. We need to become proficient in the skill. Don’t worry about the rest of the stuff.

Exemple :

A new instrument

Rather than studying complex compositions of classical music, look current music and studies the patterns.

  • If you learn basic guitar chords, you can learn 80 % of popular music.

  • If you learn basic piano chords, you can quickly learn pop music you always wanted to play.

The goal isn’t to to play in a symphonic orchestra but to learn the basics and take pleasure in making progress.

Third : Environment

Now our brains are ready to learn and we identified the skills or goals we want to have, it’s the time to create an environment for success.

I wrote an article to create your headquarter . We will do the same thing to help us to become limitless.

A : Stop to being multitasking

Often people advise to be able to do several thing in the same time but the only thing this behavior do is to decrease your ability to learn and your productivity. Look the results you have when you work and every 10 minutes you watch a video on YouTube. Every time you change activity before you finish, you become less creative and productive.

Si you want be productive, focus on one thing and finish it. If you learn a new langage, dedicate time only for it and nothing else.

B : Remove all distractions

Often people thing they can do their passion in evening around 21h-22h (9pm-10pm). It’s not true because people are distracted very easy all day. They spend a lot of time on Facebook, Youtube, Gmail, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Then when everybody sleep, it’s at this moment they work on their passion.

Work on your passion immediately after your school/work and you will see the difference. It’s guarantee !

There are apps like « Self Control »  to allow you to not be distract any more

If you want write a book, go in a boring place. Don’t go in a place where there is a lot of cool stuff.

If you want read a book, go in a place where there isn’t TV. Don’t be tempted or cancel you cable (we can watch everything on internet now).

Be Limitless

Here principles :

Exercice. In the morning 10 minutes of bodyweight’s exercice

Plan. You know exactly the 2 skills you need to study and they must be done before 16h (4pm).

Environment. Blocks for a certain time websites that can disctract you. Cancel your cable also.

Hack

Everydays

James Clear’s tip . If you learn a musical instrument or a langage, do it for 5 minutes each day. Create this habit is more important than the « perfect » time.

Use help of others

If you want learn something quickly, you can find some people who learned this skill quickly. Ask to this person how he/she learned this and test it.

Make mistakes the 1st day

You can learn a langage with a grammar book for years but if you don’t speak this langage with people, it’s useless. It’s like deadlift or something else, accepts that failure is a part of the process to be better.

Learn 1-2 new skills

Learn Taekwondo, piano and spanish is too much. Select 1-2 and stay focus on it.

Different kind of music

If you try to read more or be more productive at work, experiment different type of music like rap, electro, classical music, movie soundtrack, etc. At different moment of the day, you need to be in a different state of mind (calm, aggressive), use music to be more productive.

Sleep more

In the movie « Limitless », Eddie Mora lives with the minimal hours of sleep every day. In the reality, it isn’t possible to sleep 4h. A body lacking sleep functions similarly to an intoxicated body  .

P90X, Insanity, Weight Watchers, Shakology And Nutrisystem (part 2)

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

There is more than 1 million fitness product and diet system. This is what I think of certain.

Shakeology

Replace one of your meal each day with a shake. Shakeology’s shake pretend have « 70 nutritious ingredients to help to detox and protect the body of free radical damage and help against food carving and help to have a healthy libido » ».

Advantages

Like Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers, Shakeology is simple. Replace a meal with a shake and lose weight. I didn’t try but people say it taste good and it has a good source of protein and a nice amount of protein per shake with a little sugar.

If you travel, it’s easy to have a little shakeology’s powder to drink it to replace a meal.

Disadvantages

I don’t suprise people lose weight with this plan if they follow it exactly. They replace a meal (around 500-1000 calories) with a Shakeology’s shaker which is only 120-160 calories. It’s a reduction of caloric intake of 380-780 calories. Remember, just 500 calories less per day can have as result to lose 0.45kg (1lbs) per week.

For me, a meal of 120 calories is not good because you will be not satiated and not satisfied.

What happens when you don’t have Shakeology’s powder ou you don’t have acces to a blender or you’re traveling. Can you continue to consume the same amount of calories and maintain the same nutritious plan ?

Shakeology is good for people who want lose 4.5kg (10lbs) without changing lifestyle. It’s only for short term.

Juice cleanses

Stop to eat and drink this juice during 3-10 days to detox your body and lose weight. There is a million of juice cleanses, the concept is to not eat and replace all meals by a juice of fruits or/and vegetables.

Advantages

Instead to eat food, you just going to drink liquid calories all day. Because you don’t eat a lot of carb and sodium ( because you don’t eat solid food), you can lose a huge amount of water. Losing water can cause weight loss but it’s temporary. It’s not like losing fat !

You will eat more fruits and vegetable than usual.

Disadvantages

I think during these 3 days where you will not eat foods, you will ve miserable. You will just drink some fruits/vegetabels juices instead meals. You will essentialy drink sweet water with fibers.

The most of weights you will lose during these 3 days will be water according to the amount of carbs, grains and sodium that you consume usually. This weight loss is false because it’s only water.

When you will eat solid foods, the weight will quickly return.

If you want to a detox, take some days to eat a lot of protein, spinard, broccoli and cauliflower. If you want make real change in your life, read the next.

Exercice and diet

Instead to buy some powder’s shake, receive foods at home or replace solid foods by liquid, there is a philosophy named « Exercice and diet ».

No need to buy some weird stuff but it requires make changes in your lifestyle. The goal is to move more than stay seated and eat more real foods than processed foods.

Advantages

Every sytem talked before are solutions to short term. « Exercice and diet » is done to change the lifestyle for all life.

Instead to dramatically change how you eat and move during 3 months, you must change small things which will have long term results.

  • Rather to do exercice with a DVD during 90 minutes everydays, start with a walk,

  • Rather to count points or receive foods at home, study to cook and eat real foods.

  • Rather than being dependent on something to have success, be independent to have success.

« Exercice and diet » is the best to have long term results, to have results for life. If you’re traveling you know the different type of foods, you know how to eat healthy outside home. If you don’t have access to a blender or you can’t receive foods at home, you know how to cook a basic meal. If you can’t use a DVD player, you can do a complete bodyweight training session in a room or in a park.

« Exercice and diet » doesn’t ask you to spend a lot of money or buy fancy stuff or buy pre-prepared foods. It doesn’t ask you to have several hyper strict weeks and once it’s over, back to old habits. People make me laugh when I see them before summer, during summer and after summer. Rather that you have a new version of you (like updates) : healthy and happy !

Disadvantages

The big « Exercice and diet » disadvantages is that requires commitment and changes. No shake, no foods receive at home, no DVD but instead you must take of your health.

There is also another challenge to have long term change in your diet. Eat cookies, cakes and muffins are bad for you. You need to change this to see results.

It’s simple to learn but difficult to apply for people who search short term results. Everybody know we need to do more exercices and stop to eat junk foods but we can’t force our brain to do this. It’s for this reason we need to educate ourselves about willpower.

Results aren’t instantaneous like a click. « Exercice and diet » results can often take several months of change before seeing solid results.
