Difference Between Websites And Blogs

blog, website, computer, laptop, tablet, smarphone

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I heard Olivier Roland’s tips and I learned some good stuff.

Often people ask themselves this question to start a company on internet: “What is the difference between a website and a blog ?”.

The answer is that there is no difference because a blog is a website. To be more precise, a blog is a type of website because there are websites that aren’t blogs. A blog is a type of website in which the content is published by antichronological order (it means that the last published article is displayed first). It’s possible to have a static home page for blogs, this is an option.

In the case of e-commerce, a blog can be a complementary website to attract qualified prospects. I take the example of fitness. You have a company that sells fitness accessories (weightlifting belt, squat knee sleeves, etc). You create a website to sell your products with Prestashop , Shopify , Magento . By creating another blog type website, you share content that will interest your potential clients, fitness fans.

On the blog, you share articles like: “Protect you back with these 4 strength coach secrets” or “7 exercises to build your strength and power foundation” or “How much protein, fat and carbs should you eat to lose weight”. Topics that interest people who do fitness. You have to publish content to attract qualified prospects, it means, qualified prospects who are likely to buy your products.

Study case

analysis

It gives a huge advantage compared to your competitors who don’t do that.

Here is a concrete example. Bonnegueule is basically a blog about French men’s fashion. But the Bonnegueule’s founders did more than what infopreneurs usually do (sell online training and ebooks) They created their own clothing brand in collaboration with fashion designers. Since 2014, they have 3 physical stores in France.

What is innovative with Bonnegueule is that on the products sheet of clothes, there is the complete details of the materials used, tips to be elegant with the clothe, how to associate this clothe with others, tips for good maintenance of the clothe and the fashion designers pictures.

With all this people see Bonnegueule as advisers and not sellers, even if they sell products. And that makes a huge difference in the relation with clients.

It’s also smart to create multiple types of content (text, video, audio) on other platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or Soundcloud to attract other qualified prospects to other locations.

Meniscal Tears

meniscus

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE. With my training, I’m interested in biomechanics to avoid injuries. I read « Sport Medicine Media Guide » and I learned some good stuff.

Meniscus tear

meniscus tear

Meniscal tear is one of the most common knee injuries in athletes. This is caused after a contact injury or a traumatic twist. The meniscus is a wedge-shaped cartilage that provides a cushion in the medial and lateral portion of the knee joint and acts as a « shock absorber ». It’s located in the area of joints contact to prevent the bones rub between them because of the bodyweight. It’s hard and rubbery to help cushion the joints and keep the knees stable.

It’s important to also know that the meniscus helps to nourish the knee by facilitating the diffusion of joint fluid. With this injury, athletes can experience acute pain with a swelling and often a catching or locking sensation.

Diagnose

A meniscus injury can be diagnosed on the basis of the story that the patient provides and a physical examination of the knee.

An orthopedic surgeon my also use other techniques to further diagnose such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which gives a 3-dimensional image of the inside of the knee joint. In some cases, a surgeon can perform an arthroscopic inspection of the articulation, this is a minimally invasive surgical procedure.

Treatment

knee brace

A small meniscus tear can be treated with rest, ice and anti-inflammatory medications. When a meniscus tear causes a significant loss of movement or catching, the appropriate treatment is often a surgical operation. Depending on the location and type of tear, the treatment may be a simple arthroscopy to remove the torn fragment. Depending on how quickly the inflammation disappears, athletes can return to a full activity after a week or months.

For athletes with a repairable tear, sutures are used to sew the meniscus. In this situation, the knee is braced for 6 weeks. These athletes take at least 3-6 months to back to their activities but maintain the full cushion in their knees.

Prevention

There is not really any way to prevent a meniscus tear apart from a conditioning program to try to prevent an acromioclavicular ligament (ACL) tear and knee instability.

Stats

Women have meniscus tears more often than men and at an earlier age. These tears are often associated with an acromioclavicular ligament injury (ACL)

There are some variables of meniscus tears can be repaired and despite repair, they aren’t always heal. But arthritis can be avoided in the majority of cases when repair is successful. One study shows that 60% of patients who undergo meniscectomy (partial elimination) had some degree of progressive arthritis.

Combine 2 charts

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

I have just enrolled in a Data Science course on Udemy  and I learned good stuff.

We’ll move to the next level. We’ll work with 2 bar charts in parallel to have a more efficient data mining. In a previous article, we created 2 different bar charts. The 1st was an A/B test (actually, it’s a classification test) that told us in which age range the clients were most likely to leave the bank. The 2nd was a bar chart showing the age distribution of clients in our sample of 10 000 clients.

Let’s go. We’re going to have an A/B test with age range and we’ll add a bar chart of the client distribution below. To add a bar chart, we must start by choosing what we want to keep and what we want to add. In our case, we want to keep the columns because they’re the same in the 2 bar charts.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

And we just want to add a new line so we will add a new variable in « Rows ». As we want to add a bar chart of distribution, we will use the variable which corresponds to the number of observation « Number of Records ».

In « Measures » moves the variable « Number of Records » in « Rows » to the right of « SUM(Number of Records).

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

We have a 2nd bar chart below the 1st bar chart. As you can see, these 2 bar charts are in one column. « Columns » is « Age(bins) ». These 2 bar charts are in 2 different lines which are the lines that correspond to the 2 « SUM(Number of Records) » in « Rows ».

The space on the left has also changed. There is « All » which represents the 2 bar charts at the same time. It means, when your select « All », you make change in the 2 bar charts.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Below this tab « All » we have 2 tabs. The 1st tab represents the 1st bar chart so the 1st « SUM(Number of Records) » in « Rows » and the 2nd tab represents the 2nd bar chart so the 2nd « SUM(Number of Records) » in « Rows ».

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Which means that if you want to make changes on the 2 bar charts at the same time, you make the changes in the tab « All ». If you want to make changes only in the first bar chart, you select the first tab below « All ». If you want to make changes only in the 2nd bar chart, you select the second tab below « All ».

So if you change the color in tab « All », our 2 bar charts will be colored by the same color.

Select the « All » tab and click on « Colors ».

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Click on « Edit Colors… » and select « Stayed ». Select the green color and click on the « OK » button.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

As you can see, the color changed in the 2 bar charts.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Click on the tab of the 2nd bar chart.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Removes the « Exited » variable from « Colors » to remove colors only in the 2nd bar chart.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Removes the « SUM(Number of Records) » variable from « Label » to remove the labels only in the 2nd bar chart.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

We will add color on this 2nd bar chart. Click on « Colors », click on « More colors… » and select the blue color. Click on the « OK » button.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Now, we would like to see the colors vary in intensity depending on the number of observations. Take « SUM(Number of Records) » from the 2nd line in « Rows » and holding « Ctrl » or « Command », move it to « Colors ».

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Cool ! We will take care of the 1st bar chart. Select the tab of the 1st bar chart.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Click on « Colors ». Click on « Edit Colors… ». Select « Stayed ». Select the brown color and click on the « OK » button.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

For more clarity, we will add labels in 2nd bar chart. Click on the tab of the 2nd bar chart. Take « SUM(Number of Records) » from « Colors » and holding « Ctrl » or « Command » and move it to « Labels ».

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

Perfect. Now we will change the location of the bar chart. We will put the 2nd bar chart instead of the 1st bar chart. According to the logic of « Rows » and « Columns », simply put the 2nd line « SUM(Number of Records) » to the left to pass in 1st line.

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

tableau chart compare paralell data mining science

BOOM, the bar chart of the age distribution is going over because it’s in the 1st line in « Rows ». With these changes, tabs to change the bar charts have changed order.

Observation

What we can observe with these bar chart is that we see on the 1st bar chart that the majority of bank’s clients are in the age group of 30 to 34 years old and 35 to 39 years old. In these 2 age groups, we see on the 2nd bar chart that client of 30 to 34 years old are less likely to leave the bank than clients between 35 and 39 years old. Look at ages 30 to 34, the rate of clients leaving the bank is 8% while in the 35 to 39 age group, the number of clients leaving the bank is 13%.

In the age group of 40 to 54 years old, we see on the 2nd bar chart that the rate of clients leaving the bank is increasing and is above of the average rate of clients leaving the bank (20%). But we see in the 1st bar chart that the number of clients in the age group of 40 to 54 years old decrease with the age groups.

Do you remember the potential for anomalies in age groups 75, 85 and 90 ? We’ll check it. In the 1st bar chart we can see that there are 11 clients in the age group of 80 to 84 years old, 2 clients in the age group of 85 to 89 years old and 2 clients in the age group of 90 to 94 years old. We can conclude that these observations in age group of 80, 85 and 90 aren’t very significant from a statistical point of view because 2 clients is something negligible in this sample of 10 000 clients.

In the first age group of 15 to 19 years old, we can see that there are 49 clients, which is not very significant.

Compare these 2 bar chart in parallel allows us to have additional insights.

Find The Gym For Your Goals (Part 1)

radar dragon ball

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and I learned good stuff.

The gym can become an important part in your life. For this reason is important to choose your gym well otherwise you will become bitter.

It’s not necessary to train in a gym to gain strength or to have a good physical condition. You can do a bodyweight workout program at home (bedroom, garage or basement).

But if you really want an athletic body, you need to have equipment like barbells or dumbbells. It’s possible that you don’t have place or resources to create your home gym (like me), so the best option is to have a gym membership.

Discover really what you want

discover

Don’t do the mistake to have a gym membership in the closest gym to your home. Think about your goals.

Make a list of things you need in a gym and make the difference between « must have » and « would be nice to haves ».

Equipment

I wrote an article in 2 parts about this topic (click here link ). Imagine you have a workout program based on barbell, you need to check this :

  • Olympic barbell

  • Power rack (or at least a squat rack)

  • Dumbells up to 45-68kg (100-150lbs) or heavier if you want to do a dumbell training over barbell

  • Pullup bar/Dip station

  • Flat bench with racks for the bench press

Classes

Gyms offer free classes for their members like kickboxing, dance fitness, stationary bike or yoga. This is helpful for beginners, don’t hesitate to try one.

Amenities

Some gyms offer good anemities like child care, a zone only for women ( my sister came one time in my gym and she said that men stared at her too much) or dry cleaning.

An environment to be focus

For me the gym has an important part in my day. When I train at home, I know I’ll be bothered by my rommates. I find it easier to concentrate when I’m at the gym with my headphones. When I’m at the gym it’s « my time » to me, I’m in my bubble. Everything about home, school, work doesn’t exist. The only thing is important is my workout.

Coach

Gyms have coaches available to help you improve your technique or workout program. From time to time it’s pratical.

Rules

A « must have » rule can be you can bring your childen at gym. I don’t have children but it looks cool for people who have children. Some gyms don’t allow to do deadlift and have vibram  so check if rules match with what you want to do.

A gym membership can be a long-term commitment so look at these points :

  • If you do a workout program based on dumbbells like me, be sure that dumbbells up to 45-68kg (100-150lbs) or heavier

  • If you think you’ll do the Olympic lift, look for bumper plates and a gym that lets you drop the weight.

  • If you think you’ll try kickboxing or yoga later, check that the gym has this type of classes.

Budget

calculator

During my travels, I saw gym membership between $9.- and $365.- per month. In Europe, it’s on average EUR 50.- per month but it depends on the area where you live and the amenities offered.

It’s useless to take the most expensive price thinking that you’ll have everything you need in the gym (I already did this mistake). It’s for this reason I’m writing this article to help you to find the best gym at the best price according to your need.

Also think of the usual thing like the towel. Imagine you go to a gym that offer a towel’s service. You know it and you think it’s great, you don’t nee to bring your towel. One day, you go to train at the gym at lunch and the staff tell you that there is no more towels available. It’s annoying.

Apart from the equipement, there are services that are important to know if the gym offer them or not :

Events offer or trips with discounts. Imagine that the gym organizes a hiking trip and member pay only 20.-. I agree, it’s not an incredible discount but during the hiking trip you’ll able to meet people who work to improve their health like you.

A child care service during your workouts. It’s possible that you have to pay an extra of $20.- or $30.- per month. I don’t have children but it looks pratical.

Free classes including yoga that is great for relaxing muscles. I prefer Tai-Chi but there is no this class in gyms.

Location and hours

hour

Having a gym that is close to your house and your school/workplace is an interesting place.

By exemple, if you gym is close of your school/workplace, it’s cool. But the problem is that if you school/workplace is at a distance of 1 hour from you home, you’ll never train on weekends.

There is something I forgot to tell you in gym’s rules. There are gyms that close at 23h (11pm) and I know some gyms don’t allow their members to start their workout after 22:15 (10:15pm). If you work late in the night or during the night, it’s better to look for a gym open 24/7.

It’s important to choose a gym according to your willpower :

  • Imagine you want to train before you go to school/workplace. You do it because you want to train immediately to avoid not training all day or because when you wake up, you’re groggy and train give you energy for the whole day ?

  • Imagine you want to train after your school/workplace. You do it because you don’t have time to train during the day ? Be carefull because if you’re the type of person who is very tired after school/workplacle, you’ll find excuses to cancel your training. I meet everyday people like this.

An ideal location is to find a gym located between your home and your school/workplace. If you can do this, you’ll save time and money. I can’t do that but it’s really effective.

Note : It’s better to pay a little bit more for a gym that you use several times a week than pay less for a gym that you use from time to time. Don’t be fancy.
