What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

When we have company, we read customer reviews to improve the products/services. But we have a way of thinking that can hinder the company’s evolution. Here is an example, for a product the are 10 positive reviews and 1 negative review. The problem is that the entrepreneurs will think 1000 times more about the negative review rather than 10 reviews positive.

To change this way of thinkging, it’s necessary to understand that this is part of human nature. We have been educated by evolution to focus more on negative things than positive things. And yes, our ancestors lived in an unstable environment during the vast majority of the existence of the human being. Here are some examples :

  1. Our ancestors were very attentive to the elements that were partially negative. They could be very happy, have a great day but they had to pay attention to the powerful animals that could, by surprise, kill them.
  2. Our ancestors had to pay attention to the disputes that had in the village because these disputes could deteriorate the village’s stability. This can result in creating friction that undermines trust in terms of collaboration for survival.
  3. Our ancestors were never satisfied with their situation and this motivated them to improve their lifestyle through science.

As you’ve seen, this is a way of thinking that we have in human nature and there are some tips to avoid being obsessed with these negative reviews. I propose 3 solutions :

  • Ignore them. The more negative reviews you see, the more you’ll be desensitized to that. It’s not very complicated because if your company is working well, you have few negative reviews.
  • Delegate the management of reviews to a member in your company. This allows you to avoid being on the front line in the emotional impact to be less affected. It’s true, this solution have a problem. It creates distance between the entrepreneur and the customers feedbacks. It’s for this reason that it’s recommended to set up a procedure for the member who handles the reviews saying : « From now on, it’s you who manages the reviews. The thing I would like you to do is that you only transfer negative constructive reviews to me ». Negative constructive reviews are the criticisms where you see the urge to help.
  • Create an email address only for positive reviews. For example, you can name this email : « positivereviews@yourCompanyName.com » and tell to the person who manages the reviews that each time he/she receive a positive reviews, he/she send it to this email. You can also tell to this person to make a screenshot of a positive review from social media and send it to this email.

With this email address, you create the email of happiness. This will be useful for moments of demotivation and doubt. If, for example, there is an negative reviews that makes you feel bad and you think about it several hours later, you can log on this email, read positive reviews and realize that you’re doing a good job. It’s really a special feeling to know that you’re changing the lives of many people. It’s really fantastic and it allows you to relativize.

It’s possible to make a combination of the 3 solutions. It means, you force yourself to read the negative reviews to desensitize you ; you delelgate part of the process to manage the reviews ; you create a magical email as a psychological support.

These solutions allow you to put things in their place so that you don’t get overwhelmed by negative emotions.

Have Productive Hobbies

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE !!! I watched an Olivier Roland’s video and I learned some good stuff.

There are people who are named « High Achiever ». They’re people who have extraordinary results in their field. What’s interesting is that they all have a common pattern, they have a lot of productive hobbies. That’s not to say that they don’t have hobbies like watching videos, playing video games or partying, but it’s in small quantities.

Take the exemple of Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of Virgin. During an interview, he said that the hobby that had changed his life was sport. For him, the sport is fundamenal to improve the lifestyle but it’s not the case for all successful entrepreneurs. Steve Jobs wasn’t an athlete and he was successful.

The question is : « What hobby is unproductive that you can replace with a productive hobby and relax ? ». A productive hobby is a hobby that allows you to reach your goals, improve your lifestyle and relax at the same time.

Decreasing your unproductive hobby by productive hobby is a task to be done slowly and gradually as for sport. This is the cumulative effect. If instead of eating a piece of pizza, you eat a salad every day, after few months, you’ll have a huge difference in your weight, your energy and your well-being.

When I started to replace unproductive hobby with productive hobby, I put pressure on myself not to play video games, watch videos on internet or party with my friends. After a few months, I wanted to stop everything, I saturated with personal development information and I felt like I had no more fun living. So to decrompress, I party for 1 week.

This is where I realized that you always have to have a balance. « High Achiever » also have unproductive hobby, the difference is that they don’t spend 4-6 hours to watch videos.

Have fun and be productive

An unproductive hobby is something that relaxes you but doesn’t bring you anything compared to your goals. In addition to the satisfaction that this unproductive hobby brings you, you feel guilty. It makes you nervous or even more stressed. Because of this frustration, you continue to do unproductive hobbies and you fall into an infernal spiral.

On the other hand, a productive hobby like sport, meditation, to read books interesting, to be in contact with the nature are hobbies which relax you, improve your lifestyle and allow you to reach your objectives. Scientific studies show that the 2 most creative activities are walking in nature and playing a musical instrument.

Make a list of unproductive hobbies that you do and replace them with productive hobbies. The idea is to reduce your unproductive hobby and increase your productive activities to help you achieve your goals.

MRSA Infections

What’s up ? This is THE stephane ANDRE. With my training, I’m interested in biomechanics to avoid injuries. I read « Sport Medicine Media Guide » and I learned some good stuff.

Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureaus), or MRSA, is a bacterium that creates skin infections and other types of infections. The first time that MRSA was seen in US hospitals during the 1970s. Recently, there is a new strain of MRSA know as Community Acquired Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or CA-MRSA, has left hospitals and began to spread in the community.

This is the strain that is prevalent among athletes. The difference between CA-MRSA and Healthcare-Associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) is in their effects. CA-MRSA usually creates skin infections while HA-MRSA causes bloodstream, urinary tract and surgical site infections. This make CA-MRSA less dangerous than HA-MRSA. Another difference is that CA-MRSA is more vulnerable to antimicrobial.

Symptoms

Signs of infections are :

  • Redness

  • Warmth, Swelling

  • Pus

  • Pain at sites where there are skin wounds

  • Abrasions or cuts

MRSA has the ability to spread to other organs in the body and when that happens, symptoms are more severe.

At this stage, symptoms are :

  • Fever

  • Chills

  • Low blood pressure

  • Joint pain

  • Severe headaches

  • Shortness of breath

  • An extensive rash over the body

These more advanced systemic symptoms require immediate medical attention.

Treatment

The 1st choice for treating MRSA skin infection is to use an antibiotic that has been created to kill bacteria with mild side effects. Most early infections with no widespread symptoms can be treated with oral antibiotics. Because of the nature of this decease and antibiotic options, many patients think they’re « cured » after only a few doses and decide by themselves to stop taking the prescribed drugs. However, MRSA is able to re-infect the patient and become resistant to antibiotics used previously.

For moderate to severe infections, treatment may be with intravenous antibiotics.

These infections associated with deep abscesses or boils require open surgical drainage in addition to antibiotic therapy. Most infections resolve in 7-10 days with an adequate treatment despite the fact that a deep abscess can take up to 4 weeks to eradicate the infection by resolving the abscess cavity.

Early identification and treatment of MRSA infections decrease the amount of playing time lost and decrease the chance that the infection will become severe. Skin may be protected by protective clothing or gear designed to prevent skin abrasions or cuts.

Prevention

It’s necessary that athletes have good personal hygiene but it must be added that athletes and visitors to athletes facilities must also keep their hands clean by washing them often with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub. The minimum is to have clean hands before and after sports and activities. For example when we use weight training equipment that is shared by all gym members, it’s important to have clean hands after using toilette or when someone is injured taking care the wounds (including changing bandage).

Ordinary and antimicrobial soaps are effective for washing hands. It’s noted that liquid soap is a better option because it’s not possible to share this type of soap compared to bar soap. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contain at least 60% alcohol are the perfect choice.

Athletes should shower immediately after exercise and shouldn’t share soap and towels. Washing all uniforms and clothes after each use is important. Athlete should avoid sharing items that are in contact with the skin and avoid sharing personal items as they contact the skin. Fortunately, most surfaces don’t provoke a risk of spreading staph and MRSA.

Athletes who have had MRSA

Several high school, college and professional athletes have contracted MRSA infections. There have already been epidemics among athletes on the same team. A study published in « The New England Journal of Medicine » shows an infection MRSA among St. Louis Rams professional football franchise (USA) athletes. During a single season, MRSA infections were found among 5 of 58 Rams athletes (9 percents) that was tested. All infections developed on areas of the body that are common places for turf injury.

Stats

  • Today, MRSA accounts for about 50-70% of the S. Aureus infections that are present in healthcare facilities across the world.

  • Statistics fro the Kaiser foundation in 2007 indicated that approximately 1.2 million hospitalized patients contract MRSA infections.

  • Serious MRSA infection is still predominantly related to exposure in the healthcare setting, where approximately 85 percent of all serious MRSA infections occur.

  • Fortunately, in children under 18 years old, mortality rates are much lower (1%), even though the number of hospitalized children with MRSA has almost tripled since 2002.

Challenge Your Intelligence

I watched an Olivier Roland’s video  and I learned good stuff :

Have you ever heard that : « If you’re smart and you’re always surrounded by idiots, you’ll always be right ».

Sincerely, there is a deep truth in it. This corresponds to this quote « If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room ». We are human beings and it’s easy to follow your ego. It’s easy to stay in an environment where we’re always right because subconsciously we want to be around people who adulate us or put us on a pedestal.

When we look around, we see people who are successful and who stay in a bubble where they’re surrounded themselves with people who will always agree with them. It’s in our human nature not to like the contradiction of what we are and the values we defend. All of this is logical, we have success, we developed values and a life approach that we tested in the field and we don’t know others ways.

It doesn’t mean that in any case it works and that doesn’t mean that there are not other ways to succeed.

A group of intelligent people

When was the last time you were in a room where you felt that you weren’t the smartest person in the room and that you learned new things ?

What is interesting when yo participate in a mastermind group is that you’re surrounded by brilliant people who don’t hesitate to say when there are obvious things in you and you don’t see them. It allows you to change your point of view and forces you to face your own limiting beliefs.

Often during a mastermind group, there is a « hot seat ». A « hot seat » is when you share a specific problem and a specific question to the group. What is surprising is that we always see the same pattern that repeats itself. There is a person who shares a problem and a question and we see a lot of obvious things about the limiting beliefs of this person, how much that person has locked himself/herself into a part of the problem. From the outside, we see that there are other ways to attack the problem and we also see obvious solutions.

What’s interesting is that it seems extremely obvious for a person who is in the group to help find the solution but when you share your problem and your question, the group offers you things that you have never seen by yourself.

We all need a moment to take out our trash. We all need to share with a group what doesn’t work and what problems we have. Whenever we do that, we realize that we all have blind spots. Things that seem obvious to everyone but seem hard to see. It’s like seeing the flaws of another person but we don’t see ourselves our flaws.

Here’s an example, I’m ticklish. I can try to tickle myself, I can’t laugh but if someone else tickles me, I laugh immediately.

I can’t be at the window and see me walking in the street at the same time. So if you’re an entrepreneur and you feel isolated, break this situation. Go to events, try to meet other entrepreneurs because it will help you a lot.

You can’t know how many mistakes you make each day without realizing it. Only someone else can show you, your mistakes if you allow him/her to do so in a caring way. It’s not a matter of showing mistakes by accusing but in a kindly way to help you move forward. If you can participate in a mastermind group to be in a collective spirit of brilliant people, do it. It’s a great place to no longer be the smartest person in the room and learn new things to improve yourself.

The Trick To Have A Prodigious Result

This trick is one of the fundamental principles for success. If you want an exceptional result, you need to have an exceptional behavior.

Having an exceptional behavior means have a different behavior from the majority of people. Think about it, if you do the same thing as the others, you will have the same results as the others, it’s simple and logical.

Look at this example. Imagine that you’re doing karate and you want to become world champion :

Here are 2 choices :

  1. You’re looking for a teacher who has already been world champion and you use a technique that is different from others.

  2. You learn karate with people doing karate for fun. These people don’t have the ambition to become world champion.

Another example. Imagine that you want to have financial independence and that in your environment, there is no one who has financial independence.

Here are 2 choices :

  1. You’re looking for a person (on internet) who is financially independent and you use a technique different from the others.

  2. You listen to advice of people around you who don’t have financial independence.

We agree. In both cases, you’re more likely to succeed by looking for people who have already accomplished your goal. It’s interesting to see that the majority of people (my parents, for example) criticize people who are successful, but that shouldn’t stop you from listening to and using the techniques of people who are successful.

My opinion on

I think you noticed but everyone has an opinion on everything. Even a person who doesn’t know anything about a subject, likes to give his/her opinion. Is it in human nature ? I don’t know but to be successful, you need to learn how to sort out the good advice that will help you to reach your goal and the bad advice that will slow you down or block you.

I’m not going to lie to you, when you start, it’s really hard to sort out the good and bad advice. To get the best of luck from the start, I advise you to listen to people who have already accomplished your goal and not others.

Skepticism

There is a method that is cool, it’s good skepticism. You’ll see, it’s easier to understand the difference between good and bad skepticism than a good and bad hunter.

Bad skepticism

Bad skepticism is when you see something that is too good to be true and you say : «  Pfff, it’ a scam » or « No, it’s not for me » and you’re not going to do anything.

Good skepticism

Good skepticism is as astonished as the bad skeptic, but he/she wonders : « Is it going to work with me ? ». Good skeptic thinks like that because he/she knows that the only way to know if it’s true is to test it yourself. He/She tests it by doing a simple experiment to see if it’s true or if it’s a scam.

I know we can’t absolutely test everything because sometimes we don’t have the time or the material but, it’s this concept that I share with you. When you have a project that you like, see if you can test different techniques or methods. Test different techniques or methods that have the potential to give you a lot of result with simple experiences.

With this article I want to motivate you to connect with people who already accomplished your goal. With theses people, you can advance your project faster by avoiding making fatal mistakes. It’s true that it’s easier to connect with people around you but you may stagnate. Be persistent and patient to connect with people who have already reached your goal and who are still progressing.

It’s extremely motivating to be surrounded by people who are always progressing.

Become Antifragile

I read a Nerd Fitness article  and there is good stuff.

There is a interesting book « Antifragile : Things that Gain From Disorder » of Naseem Taleb.

The concept is to rebuilt our body and our environment to become antifragile, getting stronger and more resilient as more chaos is introduced.

In all domains in life, there is 3 types :

  • Fragile

    This object must be handled with care. This object could break if there is a variation in handling. This object must be out of danger to survive.

  • Solid

    This object doesn’t need to be handled with care. This object can be throw or hit, it will not change. It’s well built and resistant. If it breaks, it will be rebuilt exactly in the same way.

  • Antifragile

    This object doesn’t handled it wiht care ! This object can be throw, broke, throw in chaos, it becomes stronger. It’s like Hydra’s myth, you cut a head and two heads apprears. In fact, an antifragile object become weak when it handled with care.

Did you believed like me that human being was a « fragile » type ?

Nature like chaos and use it to make corrections and make change to survive like an ecosystem. Disasters, climat changes and others elements erase « fragile » members of a species. Stronger and antifragile members of a species survive.

The good new is we can become antifragile. Look :

  • When you take something heavy, your joints, muscle and bone rebuild themselves to become stronger in cas where there would be more chaos. This is the basis, if we don’t do physical activity, our muscles and bones can atrophy and weaken.

  • When we have a disease in our body at a certain dose, our body built a resistance et become stronger against it.

  • When we’re children, we learn than pans on the stove are hot, animals bite and life is difficult. We learn all these little pieces of chaos to prepare us to survive when we become adult.

Because we’re antifragile creature, we need chaos and failure in our life or we will die.

Do you remember how are humain being is the move « Wall-E » ? Humain beings are without muscles and are unable to take care of themselves. Don’t get out of you comfort zone and you become like them (and like my father) !

If we want be ready to survive in the unknown, we need to constently get out of our comfort zone, challenges and chaos in our body.

In summary, it’s :

  • Enough chaos to force our body to rebuilt itself to become stronger.

  • Chaos in a specific amount of intensity

  • Enough time to our body to recover after chaos (training)

If you walk the same distance with the same speed every day, your heart will adapt to use less energy to do this until there is too much chaos like a very stress day at school/work.

When you feel this distance is easy, walk faster or another challenge. Transform your heart to become stronger and more resilient to manage some chaos more powerful.

There is another way to put chaos in your body, training :

  • if you do a deadlift at 90kg (200lbs) a time, your body is forcing to adapt in different way to lift 68kg (160lbs) several times (reps).

    By forcing your body to adapt to lift heavy weight, your bones, your nervous system, joints and muscles need to adapt to become more antifragile to lift weight heavier. Talibe say we must force our body to adapt to the maximum level of chaos (heavy weight training) to go beyond our limit differently than medium weight or sets with a lot of reps.

The construction of an antifragile body can be totally destroyed by an « fragile » nutrition like fast foods (Nutrisystem, microwave meals, etc ).

To have an antifragile diet, we need to learn to cook ourselves and don’t be afraid to try new ingredients. Cook isn’t a thing we have to afraid or to be ashamed, it’s something good and important to have a good health. Embrace it. There is a lot of healty meals on internet, it ‘s cool.

Chaos in your diet ? Eat more meals training days and skip a meal non-training days. Don’t become a maniac to count calories or to have the perfect number of hours between meals. As long as you eat 4-6 meals per day, it’s ok.

You want to the next level : grow your food. If you can grow vegetables and raise animals, it’s great my friends. Some resources here  and there .

Here are the basics to build an antifragile body prepared to any amount of chaos and a nutritional strategy to have the energy needed to cross each chaos.

3 Things To Be More Productive

There 3 things to boost your productivity

Have a mirror on your desk. Some scientific studies show when we have a mirror next to us, we have a greater probability to take good decisions to reach our goals. For exemple, if you want to lose weights, you will eat healthy foods rather than junk foods when you have a mirror in front of you.

In fact, we don’t know why it works but there is a theory like what we have more conscious of ourselves and we have more guilt and shame when we didn’t resist to a bad temptation.

Have a productivity system

Like in every domains, there is methods more efficient than others to be more productive. It’s better to have a productivity system than noting, really. A productivity system is a way of organizing.

The most famous method is « Getting things done ». This book is a little bit complex but there is good stuff inside.

It’s possible to make a mix of serveral books about productivity system like « Zen to done ». This book is a simplifiction of « Getting things done ».

The concept is to have a Word files or another word processor with your goals of the week. These goals must be done this week. Then you set your most important tasks of the day, max. 3 per day. These tasks must be done at the end of the day. It means that if it’s 19h or 7pm and all tasks haven’t been done, I stay at work to do it. I stay because it’s the most important tasks of the day and these tasks help me to reach my goals of the week.

Have a Word file or a word processor file help you to see what are your priorities. When you determine your most important tasks of the day (the day before or in the morning), they must help you to reach your goals of the week. When everydays you do some tasks that help you to reach your goals of the week, it’s really really cool.

Once you have done your most important tasks of the day, you do the rest by trying to group them.

Take breaks

It’s useless to work 4 hours non-stop without take a break. This decrease your productivity. The ideal is to have a method like the « Pomodoro », it means tomato in italian. This called « Pomodoro » because it’s a kitchen timer. For 25 minutes of work, you have 5 minutes of break or for 50 minutes of work, you have 10 minutes of break.

All 4 « Pomodoro », around 2 hours, you will take a break of 20-30 minutes. During this break do a meditation or play a musical instrument or walk in the nature to get your head out of the work. Don’t use this moment to make phone call or check your emails. Do something really different of your work to back to work more productive on current tasks.
