Fat has become the enemy of the body. There is a huge amount of commercials or documentaries about overweight people. And why are people overweight? Because of fat. The truth is that there are good fats and bad fats. Food manufacturers used a lot of bad fats, so you have access to them everywhere. Healthy fats keep you full and help you lose weight. Yes, good fats help you lose weight. Fat is not your enemy, you have to choose the right one.
Unsaturated fats: These good fats are good for a heart-healthy diet. There are two types of unsaturated fats: monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Almond, sesame seeds, olive oil have a high concentration of monosaturated fats. Fish, flax seeds, corn oil, and sunflower oil contain polyunsaturated fats. Oil, fish also have omega-3 fatty acids.
Saturated fat: Animals are the number one source of saturated fat. Beef, pork and whole dairy products and medium levels in poultry and eggs. The body needs saturated fat.
Trans fats: These are the fats most used in industrial foods. Most unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature. To make them solid, food manufacturers add extra hydrogen. This process makes it “hydrogenated” or trans fat. Baked goods, animal products, and margarine have the highest level of it.
Trans fats are the worst for the heart, blood vessels, and body health. When people say fat is bad, they’re talking about this one. Eating a meal consisting of a large steak with a potato salad loaded with eggs and mayonnaise spikes your cholesterol levels. Do it regularly and it increases the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart problems.
Switch to healthy fat
For example, instead of cooking your food in butter, opt for olive oil instead. Top a salad or sandwich with fresh avocado instead of bacon or cheese. Choose peanut or almond butter to top whole-grain toast or a whole-wheat bagel, instead of butter or cream cheese. You must have healthy fats in your diet, your body needs fats. Good fats.
